  1. As I understand it, it wasn't actually a debut for either of them - and didn't someone say Golding had danced Des Grieux in Moscow in the summer?
  2. Yep, an embarras de richesses, you might say, and possibly a reason why virtually everything which didn't have Acosta in it has had problems selling.
  3. Thanks for that, Lyn. I shall look forward to watching it when circumstances permit.
  4. I'm not so sure about that: I've seen or heard some reference to it, and I don't remember it in any way being Norwegian. I'm also not sure whether it's actually been on, but then if it was on Sky it would have passed me by completely anyway.
  5. Yes, it is: it's called "What Do Artists Do All Day?" - looks as though it's one of a series.
  6. Spotted while I was trawling through the tv guide yesterday was a half-hour programme on Akram Khan on BBC4. I think it's this Wednesday at 8 pm, but don't have the details to hand to confirm.
  7. There ought to be: I must have used it when I was performing all that surgery the other day
  8. So, there's another McSherry-Gray around. I didn't know that. Since I don't know the company, I can't comment on the casting, though.
  9. Another one of those Burning Manon Questions which I have never seen answered in all this time: who are the two manservants who Manon gives her things to in the first scene, and why do they deserve a kiss on the cheek? Every time I see it, it strikes me as odd.
  10. Melody, I like your post so much that I'd give it five "Likes" if I could!
  11. While I would hope that money isn't the primary consideration driving casting decisions, I would agree that in terms of box office putting your two best eggs (from a public perception, at least) in the same basket doesn't make a lot of sense financially. OTOH, I'm not sure how much of a draw Osipova by herself is at present: have the public forgotten about her? Were they only attracted to her in partnership with Vasiliev? I ask because I'm told there are still tickets available for her Don Quixote, of all things! I expect the publicity machine to start coming to life with respect to her shortly. On the other hand, though, for more long-term development (on the assumption that she is intending to stick around) I would have thought it made far more sense to start trying her out with in-house principals to see who clicks and who doesn't. At the moment, I feel there are some opportunities going begging. With virtually everything I've seen her in so far, I've wondered "I wonder how she would do with so-and-so in this?".
  12. They certainly have in all the performances I've seen: guess they all have new boots? OTOH, I didn't find myself put off long-term by it in any case, so I'm not sure the boots can take the blame
  13. Precisely why I didn't comment on Tuesday's performance, Lin! If tonight's seems "flat" to me, then I'll know you're right. If it doesn't, then I will say that Tuesday's did.
  14. Assuming MB hasn't made any changes to it since last time around? What you might not be able to guarantee, Katherine, is whether there are any late-night engineering works which might foul things up. I wouldn't expect them to kick in as early as 10 pm, but you never know. I believe the major engineering work on that line was done probably a decade ago by now, so hope there's nothing more to come.
  15. Well, I certainly hope he is! It's one of his very favourite roles, I seem to remember him saying recently.
  16. Ah, yes, those "beats". Unfortunately, there are too many leading dancers - both Lescauts and Manons - who don't seem to bother to put them in (Manon's being in the bedroom pdd). I think Lamb did, and Hayward, but not Nunez, if I remember rightly.
  17. Thank you for that, Barton22. Isn't one of the usual suspects missing from Fille? Apart from Cervera as Colas, I mean. Hmm, Muntagirov as Colas. Should be good to see, but isn't he unusually tall for the role? I was going to say surely Bonelli had done 4Ts before, but it's a different role, I think. Very pleased to see Watson still in it, since his performance last time round was one of the many things that has had it on my wishlist for revival for the last decade. I did assume he wouldn't be able to do both 4Ts and Song of the Earth, but assumed it would be 4Ts which would be jettisoned. I presume he'll be cast in Song of the Earth for the other run, whenever that is.
  18. Sorry, Bluebird - a bit slow on the uptake there! I was starting to wonder why on earth BRB still hadn't released the Beauty and the Beast casting
  19. Yes, just get Southern up from the Brighton area or it'll take all day if you use those Thameslinks (or whatever they're calling them this month). That's a good idea: I ought to be able to change onto a Thameslink somewhere myself. Actually, isn't Farringdon a better stop for Sadler's Wells? I've never tried it myself.
  20. I don't remember that backdrop - and it's pretty distinctive. Did they do something up in Manchester a few years ago? (I don't think it was The Lowry)
  21. Sounds great - really tempting. Thanks, John. Having recently done a tour of Rambert's new HQ, I can highly recommend it.
  22. While catching up with some old Dance Links, I came across this reference by Judith Mackrell (in relation to World Ballet Day): "A parallel project – live rather than screened – is the open week to be held by Rambert at its new base on the South Bank. Between 13-18 October, the public will be allowed in to watch daily class and rehearsal, offering the kind of intimate, exhilarating proximity to the dancers that was created during the wonderfully staged Rambert event earlier this summer."
