  1. Did anyone else get to see Dracula in their local cinema this evening? Wasn't it wonderful? Although we are lucky enough to live close enough to Leeds to see Northern Ballet regularly, it was perfect on a work night to be able to stay close to home and see it in our wonderful local independent cinema with a mug of tea in hand. I really hope there will be many more live broadcasts by Northern Ballet.
  2. I finally caught up with the Mark Bruce Dance Company's production of Dracula in Manchester last Saturday. After reading so much about the production last year I had really high expectations and they were absolutely not disappointed!! I loved the wit and humour in this production and the fact that this in no way detracted from the disturbing nature of the plot. I loved the three "brides of Dracula" being used as a sort of chorus. I loved the set, especially the gothic gates that added so much to the spooky atmosphere. I loved the horses and the wolves. Most of all, I loved Jonathan Goddard as Dracula - his incredible stage presence was a brooding menace throughout the performance. I found it very easy to follow the progression of the story. Coincidentally, within the eclectic and atmospheric score Mark Bruce had chosen to use some of the same pieces of Schnittke that David Nixon has used in his production of Dracula. This is a seriously wonderful piece of dance drama and I hope you will all try and see it during this tour!
  3. Northern Ballet are performing David Nixon's Dracula at the wonderful West Yorkshire Playhouse in September. The Company is currently in rehearsal and tweeted this picture today. It reveals 3 Draculas to whet our appetite - Toby Batley, Javier Torres and Giuliano Contadini
