  1. I have, I think, moved all feedback into a new thread here: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/10711-world-ballet-day-live-1-october-2015/ Please keep this thread for information only. Thanks.
  2. Nevertheless, it was how the role was conceived, and I for one (and I'd guess a lot of other people who weren't ballet-going in those days) would have appreciated seeing it so that I could see the difference. I seem to remember saying something to that effect about a Benjamin/Watson balcony pdd some years ago: it was a Saturday matinee, that much I do recall, but I don't remember the year.
  3. It's a shame the so-called "schedule" hasn't been a little more specific about timings: I'm sure some things will be fitted in on an as-and-when basis, but they can surely give approximate timings of classes, rehearsals and so on.
  4. Oh yes, you're right, BBB - thanks. (Except that I found out when I went out there that that's not true at all :-) ) Sorry, will try and get this thread back on track after this evening
  5. Top price is £127, second price bracket is £115, matinees top price £110. Are you certain you're looking at top-price tickets? What I find even more surprising is that there are tickets left for R&J.

Hi, Loopy. You might find some advice in this thread: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/9529-puberty-and-associated-female-problems/
  8. Tried looking out about 2.30 am (had been up battling the computer), but no sign of any moon from where I was. Not sure if there was cloud, or it just was in the wrong place to be visible from our windows
  9. Is this the old Napoli, or the "new" one? I'm not sure if the latter has been recorded?
  10. I think it's Le Piat d'Or, actually, isn't it? (she says, dragging it out of the depths of her memory)
  11. Just checked with Noël Goodwin's review in the Oct 1985 Dance and Dancers, and no, I was wrong there. He mentions several excisions.
  12. Doesn't the Ashton, too (albeit not necessarily in the right order)? (Mind you, that unfortunately isn't available on DVD). I didn't like the recording: Bessmertnova in no way made me think of a young teenager. He definitely did. And I think he kept referring to it all the way through?
  13. Ah yes, I think you're right. Guess that's another trip to Birmingham I don't have to make, then ...
  14. It's been pointed out on another thread that Tybalt casting has now been added: http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/romeo-and-juliet-by-kenneth-macmillan
  15. Oops, here's a post which didn't go through yesterday. I guess they probably did when they thought they might spend eternity in hell as a result
  16. The Hirata/Caley cast is one we don't get to see at Sadler's Wells, isn't it?
  17. Interesting that they think he's more important than Mercutio. Shame that Gary Avis got such a small slice of the pie I've not seen Hirano do Tybalt before. Perhaps not the most obvious choice?
  18. Wow, thank you for that, Beryl. Hopefully those wil have longer opening hours than Freed's, which won't be terribly helpful for anyone just coming in for a performance. Perhaps the same could be done for Dancing Times. The opera side of things is rather less vital, since they are far more widely available. (I have no idea which any of those shops are, but it'll probably turn out that some of them are the ones I used to buy my newspaper from when I used to work nearby!).
  19. Yes you can! By "somebody", do you Somebody in authority, who can actually make changes to this? Because those "somebodies" of us who have to sit on the left-hand side most certainly notice when we can't see what the boys are doing. I, too, thought that Tybalt's corpse used to be lying there, but likewise I couldn't be sure I wasn't confusing it with a different production. I think I've worked out over the years that various Juliets just pick up whichever dagger happens to be more convenient (especially if they can't see where Romeo's has landed!). I used to get very worried when I saw them picking up what I thought was the wrong one, but I guess both are springloaded, so it shouldn't matter too much. I always try to remind myself not to sit on the left for R&J, but rarely remember. Even so, they *really* shouldn't be so far behind the proscenium arch that they can't be seen from amphi left, because what about all the people sitting in the slips, and the equivalent points in the tiers below?
  20. I don't have a phobia about buttons: just a strong dislike of them. You'll rarely see me wearing anything with buttons, and if I do it will almost certainly be something I can just pull over my head/wrists without having to bother about doing up and undoing the things. I blame it on my mum nagging me to do my cardi up when I was young
  21. By clicking the "Edit" button at bottom right of your post. Within 30 minutes of posting, I think.
  22. I'm glad you managed to enjoy the production, SBF, and thank you for posting about it so quickly. What a shame about the audience reaction, though - although given how over-stuffed the Nureyev version is I can understand from what I've heard of the Ratmansky that the difference must have been disconcerting to many audience members. Sounds as though Tissi is one to watch out for ...
  23. That was my recollection, too (although it's a long time since I read it) - but in the ballet there's no indication that she knows that Romeo sneaked back to spend his wedding night with his bride, is there?
