  1. This is still interesting after watching Beautiful Tragedy (the documentary which features her) many times!
  2. Thank you both, I spoke to ENB archivist today who agreed that it would be very unlikely that there is a recording available, but will double check. I think there is a news-clip, will have to find out on which channel this was broadcast!
  3. Does any one have or happen to know where there could be a copy of Derek Deane’s premiere of Swan Lake (ENB) at the Royal Albert Hall in 1997. My friend, who was a student at Elmhurst at the time performed in each performance and has not seen a recording of the production since then and would very much like to do so. If anyone has any suggestions please share! Thank you
  4. Tickets are now available online! +100 of them - I finally got through to box office! Nightmare
  5. How about RAD HQ, click on the Autumn timetable http://www.rad.org.uk/learn-to-dance/our-dance-school-in-london/enrolling/term-dates
  6. I did it about 12 years ago! It was probably one of the best experiences of my life. However I did not get it first time round! If the selection process is similar, they choose 50 dancers of varying talent and sometimes a dancer who maybe very classical might not be what they are looking for.I know many who got through one year did but did not get in the year after and vice versa. Good luck! Be as animated as you can - that's definitely a big part of it since all their ballets are very much based on a narrative.
  7. I was at the Genée this weekend and it was an interesting evening. There were only 2 boys in the final, one more technical than the other. Some of the contemporary pieces by the girls were spectacular. I don't usually enjoy contemporary but this really blew me away - their strength and speed were phenomenal! I was quite shocked by some of the judges decisions. What criteria are they being marked on? Most candidates excelled in either a more contemporary variation or the classical but I didn't really feel there was any single dancer who was really an all rounder? Anyone else attend?

  9. I have actually just got back from Antwerp watching the Genee. I got a good train + hotel deal with Eurostar to Brussels which includes free onwards travel to Antwerp and if I had booked well in advanced the entire trip (excluding ballet ticket) would have costs around £103! I ended up paying slightly more booking a month later. That was 2 nights stay! As for the opera house in Antwerp its not massive but make sure you get a good view, the seat I booked (I had no idea) ended up being in a box right next to the stage - worse view ever!
  10. Also check out all the London universities, they rent out their rooms during the summer at affordable rates. For example http://www.arts.ac.uk/study-at-ual/accommodation/summer-accommodation/
  11. I'm not sure how old you are, but there's Royal Ballet School Associates in Bath or Birmingham, Elmhurst Associates in Birmingham, Tring Park Associates, Ballet Associates in Leicester, Northern Ballet Associates in Leeds. Royal Academy of Dance Associates in Birmingham. Like Piccolo says, living in Wales you will have to travel a lot since there's not much ballet in Wales.
  12. London Junior/Senior Ballet, Central Associates, depends what area of the country you are coming from?
  13. Hi Twirlygirl I moved from London to Cardiff for university and to be honest finding a good advanced ballet class (I was studying RAD Adv 1 at the time) was near to impossible and even after 4 years, I never really found enough good classes to keep up my technique. I did not have a car either, so this made everything much more difficult! There are many classes I would definitely avoid! However what I can recommend are the following: Open Classes: Rubicon Dance, Cardiff - classes with Patricia Vallis and/or Kathleen Rylands both ex-professional dancers http://www.rubicondance.co.uk/community-classes. However, there is always a mixed ability, so the pace can be slow. RAD Classes: I contacted the RAD and used the find a teacher search function before I moved, but the schools I tried lacked the disciplined and focus needed at vocational level and one school would not take me because I was not a toddler! Ultimately I was never able to take my Advanced 1. You can send me a private message about this if you want! Mandy Morris does classes outside central Cardiff (Chapter Arts) and in Aberdare and she had many promising pupils - however a car was needed to get there! https://www.facebook.com/MandyAndShirleyMorrisSchoolOfDance Other Places: There are few good teachers, but they tend to move around and work in different places. Company members from Ballet Cymru (Welsh Ballet) were teaching a few classes in different places when I left Cardiff last year. The following are a list of places that do ballet classes, but I am unsure who is teaching (so best to trial and see if it is worth it) - Chapter Arts, The Gate, Wonderland Studios and although I never tried: National Dance Company of Wales do company classes (contemporary) Physiotherapist: Catrin Evans works for the NHS as a physio and trained and got injured at Rambert School herself, so might understand dance injuries better than others. However I do not know anyone specific who specialises in dancers. Bristol, on the other hand has a lot more to offer and I am sure someone on here will be able to help you out with that. Good Luck and feel free to ask me anything about ballet in Cardiff, if only there was more!
  14. 1) RAD HQ has Adv 2 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturdays - https://www.rad.org.uk/learn-to-dance/our-dance-school-in-london/enrolling/term-dates Click on the timetable to see the times for the summer term, you have to pay for the whole term. 2) Central School of Ballet - RAD Adv 2 Sundays Drop in classes http://www.centralschoolofballet.co.uk/radvocationalexamtraining.php
  15. SUMMER INTENSIVE EXAMINATION SYLLABUS COURSE http://www.rad.org.uk/learn-to-dance/find-an-activity/summer-intensive-examination-syllabus-course But it think you may not be here, it is happening at the end of August (26th)
  16. I'm aware that this stopped running in 2000, however I was wondering if anyone could explain a bit more about it. I know a fair few people who are graduates of the course and attended the Royal Ballet School themselves. Were there 2 courses - one for those destined to be professional dancers and one for teachers, was it only open to students of the lower and or upper schools or a separate entity? How long did the course run and why did it stop?
  17. I am going to Prague in late November, and would love to take class and or see a ballet! Does anyone know of any advanced level drop in classes in the city? Or companies/performances to see?
