  1. Hi Kaymac, Not sure I can offer any advice but my first question would be, what is her goal dance-wise? That may dictate to a certain extent, what she should be doing? Secondly I wasn't sure who was asking for more? Her regular ballet teacher or your daughter? And is your daughter misssing styles of dance she no longer does? I am sure everyone will be gentle!
  2. It seems a real gamble to go to Tring 6th form planning on studying classical ballet. It is hard to believe you could turn up in September and be on a different strand!
  3. Out of interest, at which schools do they shop? Do they just go to RBS? Do they watch class, a show, or audition the pupils in the school?
  4. Julie, do you mean that not all current year 11s at Elmhurst invited to final audition?
  5. I have a feeling the foreign girls are better for whatever reason. I imagine a lot of them will be the best in their counrty too!
  6. I know kids this age can be very keen and want to do more than 2 classes a week. However looking back, and knowing how ballet has taken over her life now, I would have encouraged her to do a variety of activities. Especially lots of outdoor, unstructured play. Before you know it your dd has no free time, and nor do you. Associate classes are great but their value depends a bit on how accessible they are. I am not sure if 3-4 hours in a car and a 2 hour ballet class is a sane way to spend a Saturday for an 8/9 year old. (which is what we did) It might have made a bit more sense in Year 6.
  7. What school year is she? Year 5's can apply for Whitle Lodge which is fairly "serious" even at 9! Sorry- just seen she is 9 in July! Ignore me.
  8. Don't worry Aileen, I feel a bit ignorant too! My dd has been en pointe for about 4 years and it doesn't luckily seem this complicated for us. I go into the shop, she tries a pair on and and I pay a lot of money and walk out. Am I missing something? Her pointe work has never been spectacular, but then she has never complained of pain or got blisters. Should she try on lots of pairs of different makes and fitters to compare?
  9. San Francisco Ballet school are auditioning in London on December 8th. http://www.sfballet.org/school/summer_session/european_auditions
  10. I think there should be some kind of privacy rule, though perhaps names and schools of competition wineers would be published elsewhere.
  11. For some actually deciding to leave is the brave decision, it is not about giving up. You have 3 very, very good reasons. I know it will be lovely to have her home. Anything is still possible, no doors are closed forever.
  12. Money Penny and JA21 This school runs a course in August. http://www.frenchacademieofballet.org/summer_2013 I don't have any personal information but you may find some feedback on American ballet site. http://dancers.invisionzone.com/
  13. Link to news video about RBS visit to Scotland. http://player.stv.tv/programmes/news-at-six-glasgow-west-full/2012-10-18-1800/ At 26 mins
  14. http://www.teenvogue...chaela-deprince I have just read an article about a student ballet dancer which is inspiring and thought provoking on a lot of levels. It is so easy to forget how lucky we are to live when and where we do.
  15. The audition day does look quite good though!
  16. I am sure the CAT programme will have acsess to a physio.
  17. Wow, impressive destinations for these graduates and nearly all GB based. Though not sure if it is a good thing or not. Would be so so happy if my dd could get a contract close to home when the time comes.
  18. JulieW-Do they choose students who are strong (or potentially strong) in contemporary? Is a contemporary class part of audition process? Does this mean they prefer a more athletic body type? Certainily doesn't come across from web-site. Pointy22 teacher - I stand corrected.
  19. Central is a ballet school as far as I am aware. Maybe she means Rambert. But I would expect her to know this. Didn't I read on another thread they are having a Day of Dance in December? You could get some first hand knowledge then.
  20. I just checked these weights on a BMI checker. This would be a healthy weight for a 16 year old, at the lower end of the spectrum. But this would give an adult a BMI of below 18.5 and would be considered underweight!
  21. What age group are the associates classes for?
  22. Does anyone know whether or not students from other parts of the UK can apply to and attend The Dance School of Scotland. I didnt see this information on the web-site. I understand there are no fees. Are there m/any Welsh or English students there? Are the academics comparable? Finally how does the dance/academic mix work? Is it a normal secondary school with a dance and musical theatre course attached?
  23. It is lovely to watch these students, I would interested to know what I should be looking at to appreciate the Russian Style as opposed to the British style? Also I counted over 25 fouettes, is this something all ballet students would be able to accomplish at the end of their training?
  24. Just came across this, a bit late for this year but they might do it every year.
