  2. Hello Daisypop84 and welcome to the Forum. No-one knows the answer to your questions except for Ms Osipova and her employers with whom she has a permanent or guest contract. There's already been much speculation and I don't think it has got us any further forward.
  3. It depends on what your aspirations/expectations are. You may wish to get a teaching qualification and teach. You may decide you do not want to perform but would like to explore a different theatre avenue such as technical team or administration or you could change your direction completely. An education at a vocational school is a wonderful education no matter what path you eventually decide to take.
  4. I would say at least 75% last night and this afternoon. Good going given that the Empire is a barn!
  5. I HATE TO LABOUR THE POINT BUT MANON DID NOT EVEN GET AS FAR AS GOING ON SALE IN LIVERPOOL BECAUSE IT BOMBED SO BADLY IN MANCHESTER WHICH IS 40 MILES AWAY!
  6. It's the first time for it in Liverpool. I did see it in Manchester and the houses were sparse. In fact I believe all performances, except those with Alina Cojocaru, were sparse until it reached the Coli and word had got around. Last night was ATG card holders night where tickets were half price which would explain so many people giving something a whirl that they had not heard of. I bumped into my Aunt and she said she had never heard of it but was absolutely loving it! I've had a quick look at the website; the Empire is a barn - Around 2300 patrons over 2 levels. The stalls look pretty full for both performances today and the front circle also looks full. I expect the rear circle won't be as busy, but that is always the case when productions aren't known. ENB, judging by comments all around me last night, has a good fan base in Liverpool. If I am honest I thought I may be having 2 private performances today but am very glad that I am not! (We lost out on Manon because it absolutely bombed in Manchester. It might have been interesting to see how well it sold in Liverpool).
  7. I am very much looking forward to the performance on 5th December evening. Fans of BRB have been so lucky to have seen this wonderful production so many times over the last 15 or so years. I have many happy memories of glorious performances - my 2 favourites being a Saturday afternoon in Birmingham with Nao Sakuma and Robert Parker and the same Saturday evening with Ambra Vallo and Chi Cao. What a day that was...

  9. Hello LTD, I'm seeing both performances tomorrow (with friends in the afternoon but solo in the evening). Maybe we can say hello!
  10. ENB opened in Liverpool tonight with Le Corsaire. It is such enormous fun and the whole company look as though they are having a ball dancing it! We saw a seriously virtuoso performance from all the principals tonight - Tamara Rojo, Isaac Hernandez, Laurretta Summerscales, Cesar Corrales, Junor Souza and Yonah Acosta. The pas d'action in act 2 brought the house down - in fact I commented to Don Q Fan in the interval that I cannot remember such an enthusiastic audience for a ballet in Liverpool! The whole company looked fabulous but if one person stood out it had to be the amazing Cesar Corrales. I don't think I have seen him dance before but I want to see him again!
  11. The dates and programme have been announced: Triple Bill 2016 Tour Dates Announced Published: 5 Nov 2015 Phoenix Dance Theatre is proud to announce their Triple Bill 2016 tour dates as part of their 35 anniversary celebrations. Due to open at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds on 17 February 2016, Phoenix Dance Theatre is proud to present a triple bill of intense, funny and beautiful works. Featuring a mix of internationally acclaimed and home-grown choreographers. In a fitting commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, his timeless themes of desire, duplicity and unrequited love are brought to life in Kate Flatt’s brand new work Undivided Loves. Fusing sound, words and dance, Shakespeare’s most intimate, mysterious and radical sonnets are reimagined to Brazilian percussionist Adriano Adewale’s vibrant and percussive score. In contrast, world-famous Dutch/Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili will rework his piece, Until.With/Out.Enough, which explores the concept of the enclosed space that exists within our minds, as part of a co-commission with The Royal Balletand Phoenix Dance Theatre. Described as ‘Tantalising’ by the Observer, the quirky and playful Bloom by award-winning choreographer Caroline Finnexplores the darkly comic expressions of life and humanity. Audience favourite Melt by Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Sharon Watson sees the elements collide as dancers swoop and glide across the stage in an elegant mix of aerial dance, creating a breathtaking, visually spectacular work. Melt will only be shown at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Watford Palace Theatre and Cast Doncaster. Bloom will be shown at all other venues. Full listings for the tour are as below: West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds 17 – 20 February 2016, 7.30pm 0113 213 7700 wyp.org.uk Watford Palace Theatre 1 – 2 March 2016, 7.30pm 0192 322 5671 watfordpalacetheatre.co.uk Festival Theatre, Edinburgh 5 March 2016, 7.30pm 0131 529 6000 edtheatres.com Pavilion Dance South West, Bournemouth 10 March 2016, 7.30pm 01202 203 630 pdsw.org.uk Theatre at The Mill, Newtownabbey 6 April 2016, 7.45pm 0289 034 0202 Cast, Doncaster 19 April 2016, 7.30pm 01302 303 959 castindoncaster.com Darlington Civic Theatre 4 May 2016, 7.30pm 01325 486 555 darlingtoncivic.co.uk York Theatre Royal 16 – 17 June 2016, 7.30pm 01904 623 568 yorktheatreroyal.co.uk Until.With/Out.Enough is a co-commission between The Royal Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre. 13. Classics reimagined as Northern Ballet announces spring 2016 season Northern Ballet has released details of its spring 2016 season which will see popular classic titles brought to life through the Company’s unique blend of dance and storytelling. Northern Ballet’s new season includes the return of audience favourite Swan Lake, the continuation of 1984 and the World Première of Cathy Marston’s Jane Eyre as well as the first UK tour of the Company’s latest children’s ballet Tortoise & the Hare. In total, award-winning Northern Ballet will give 158 performances at 40 venues between February and June 2016, maintaining its extensive reach as the widest touring ballet company in the UK. Northern Ballet will open its spring season with the return of David Nixon OBE’s Swan Lake. Performed to Tchaikovsky’s moving score, this ballet is a modern take on an iconic classic with all the beauty for which Swan Lake is renowned. Opening at Leeds Grand Theatre from 3 – 12 March 2016, Swan Lake will also tour to Sheffield Lyceum Theatre, Norwich Theatre Royal and Milton Keynes Theatre in March and April 2016. Following a triumphant World Première in September 2015, Northern Ballet will continue the tour of its critically acclaimed production of 1984. Choreographed by Jonathan Watkins and performed to an original score by Tony-nominated composer Alex Baranowski, 1984 is ‘the ballet equivalent of a page-turner’ (The Stage) and will tour to Edinburgh Festival Theatre and Southampton Mayflower Theatre before its London Première at Sadler’s Wells in May 2016. Marking the 200th anniversary of Charlotte Brontë’s birth, Northern Ballet will hold the World Première of Jane Eyre at Cast in Doncaster in May 2016 before touring to Richmond, Aylesbury, Wolverhampton, Stoke and Leicester. The ultimate dramatic tale of romance, jealousy and dark secrets, Jane Eyre is the story of one woman’s indomitable spirit overcoming all boundaries. In addition, Northern Ballet will take new children’s ballet Tortoise & the Hare on its inaugural UK tour from February to June 2016. This much-loved Aesop’s fable tells the tale of a determined Tortoise who challenges a speedy Hare and sets out to win the race of his life. Choreographed by Northern Ballet dancers Dreda Blow and Sebastian Loe, this is the second children’s ballet by the pair who created Ugly Duckling, later adapted into a BAFTA winning programme for CBeebies. Nominated for Outstanding Company at the 2015 National Dance Awards and voted Best Company at the 2014 Taglioni European Ballet Awards, Northern Ballet is one of the UK’s five large ballet companies. Based in Leeds it performs throughout the UK as well as overseas. Northern Ballet’s productions mix classical dance and theatre, embracing popular culture and taking inspiration from literature, opera, or giving a unique interpretation of popular classical ballets. Northern Ballet is the busiest touring ballet company in the UK and is typically on the road for around 32 weeks of the year. The Company of 47 dancers tours a combination of full-length new work and established repertoire to cities throughout the UK. In 2015, Northern Ballet introduced a new strand of mid-scale touring, widening the Company’s already extensive reach with performances at nine additional venues. Northern Ballet tours widely with its ballets for children, the first three of which were adapted for TV by CBeebies, and also performs a mixed programme showcasing the versatility of its dancers. 16. Before the start of tonight's performance David Nixon came on stage and made the most beautiful speech in memory of Jonathan Oliver, dedicating the performance to his memory. Martha Leebolt and Toby Batley led the cast in one of the most emotionally charged performances I have seen in a long time. The whole company danced their hearts out. Thank you Northern Ballet.
  17. I would have said that in these days of blame and claim culture any individual or company is going to be over-cautious even if it seems a waste to us. Charities are very particular these days about what they will accept. My niece had to junk a perfectly good leather covered sofa that had one tiny hole in one of the seams that you could not notice at all. I am sure someone would have welcomed it, even as a short term measure, but none of the local charities would take it because it was not perfect.

Somerset House and Dance Umbrella present Vertical by Le Patin Libre 12 – 16 January 2016 £15, £12.50 concessions Tickets available from: www.somersethouse.org.uk/vertical-le-patin-libre Canadian quintet Le Patin Libre to bring ground-breaking, contemporary ice-dance performance ‘Vertical’ to Somerset House’s ice rink Somerset House is delighted to announce that Canadian ice-dance quintet Le Patin Libre will bring Vertical – one of the pieces from their acclaimed, award-winning 2014 double-bill Dance Umbrella hit, to Somerset House’s ice rink for 5 nights only following the end of Skate at Somerset House with Fortnum & Mason in January. Founded by Alexandre Hamel in 2005, Le Patin Libre is a five-strong troupe of professional, prize-winning skaters who have continued to blaze a unique trail on the ice with their innovative, high-octane style of ice-dancing. From humble beginnings creating routines on the frozen ponds and canals of their hometown of Montréal just ten years ago, their witty, inspired and creative performances have since gone on to win critical acclaim around the world. Le Patin Libre break the mould by challenging the conventions of traditional figure-skating through an experimental type of ice-rink performance art which places emphasis on a liberated approach to ice-skating virtuosity and draws influence from theatre, urban dance, tap and circus skills. Through Vertical, the 5 artists of Le Patin Libre celebrate the harmony of their little skating family, all the while pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible on the ice. Accompanied by a soundtrack specially created by cello virtuoso and electronic composer Jasmin Boivin and imaginative lighting by respected lighting designer Lucy Carter, the performers slash and slice the ice at top speed, with visitors seated just inches away. For five nights only, the troupe will bring their unique blend of technical skating skill and renegade signature style for an unforgettable event on Somerset House’s celebrated ice rink.
