  7. Liverpool could well be busy because it's the Beatles convention weekend; not sure if there are specific public events on tomorrow. Places of interest: (near Lime St station) Walker Art Gallery, World Museum (great Egyptian collection), St George's Hall Near Pier Head - exhibition about The Jam in Cunard Building, Tate Liverpool, Museum of Liverpool, Maritime Museum, Albert Dock, Ferry across the Mersey (should be a cruise like voyage) Liverpool One shopping centre and beyond (includes Odeon Cinema with IMAX screen too) The 2 cathedrals Or go to the beach if the weather is nice and see my beloved Iron Men (check tide times though).

  12. Congratulations to your daughter MB!
  13. And not only twitter, she has a column in one of the tabloids and has appeared on the likes of This Morning. I really find her offensive. She may occasionally make a valid point but she does it in such an obnoxious way that I immediately want to take the opposite point of view!
  14. Fantastic achievement for your DD Hudds.

  16. Seconded on this one Alison!
  17. Cinema Paradiso is a wonderful gem of a film. Overall, I prefer watching films in the cinema as I like the atmosphere. I always remember seeing John Carpenter's Hallowe'en. At one point a girl is trying to escape from the house and gets to a locked French window as the killer is chasing her. The entire audience started yelling "Break the glass"!
  18. That sounds familiar but I couldn't say 100% as it was some years ago. I just remembered the huge queue and being piped on board.
  19. Clickable link: http://www.tallshipsblyth2016.com Having seen the Tall Ships in Liverpool a couple of times, it should be a magnificent event. Last time they were here, everyone wanted to get on a ship from Columbia where you were piped aboard like visiting royalty!
  20. I've just telephoned the Hippodrome. The performance is on in the Patrick Centre which I suppose you would call the studio theatre of the Hippodrome. I agree it's a terrible shame that this event has not been publicised better, I would love to have gone. I found the original series incredibly moving. One of my friends went to the Ballet Hoo! performance and said it was the most moving performance she had ever seen.
  21. I have just picked this up off BRB's Facebook page. Ten years ago, Channel 4 presented 'Ballet Hoo - Ballet Changed My Life!'. Tomorrow night at 8pm, the brilliant Ballet Hoo graduates are back with their self-created 'Romeo & Juliet - The Meeting'. Call Birmingham Hippodrome on 0844 3385000 for tickets and more information on concessions. #culturematters Archive material from 10 years ago: https://www.brb.org.uk/post/ballet-changed-my-life-ballet-hoo?utm_source=BRB&utm_medium=Facebook&utm_campaign=ballethoo250816
  22. I have seen very few of the films listed as cinema viewing has dropped off my list of must-do, frequent activities. Of the few I had seen I loved Brokeback Mountain and No Country for Old Men. My "taste", if you can call it that, has changed a lot since the heady days of the Merseyside Film Institute and I now tend to go and watch films that would never get on any best of list but which entertain me without giving me much cause for thought.
  23. Speculation about dancers' private lives is not encouraged but Bruce has given the link to an official announcement of an engagement. Whilst the link is not directly about Swan Lake, it is probably more efficient to include the link here rather than start a new thread.
  24. Thanks for the information Capybara. I have just booked. Just a word of warning folks - the tickets are no cheaper than for a normal performance, which I think is a bit naughty for a preview!
