  1. My two DDs wouldn't mind dancing on cruise ship at least you are getting paid and doing something you love and also travelling the world. Lets face it we can't all be at Royal Opera Hse. Alwaysbroke love the name. There are other choices as well Ballet Theatre Uk, Ballet West and London Russian are holding auditions in June. Best of luck
  2. Remember for musical theatre they also do dance courses. Don't think you have to be able to sing for that but I'm not sure. Look at some of the web sites to get an idea I know Katy Mac has done musical theatre auditions she would be best person to ask. Good luck
  3. If you look on utube Ballet Theatre have some of their performances I thought they looked good not that I'm good at ballet, but my two DDs thought they looked different and we are going to try and see a performance this year. Don't know anyone that has been to s school but I expect someone does on this forum. Good luck
  4. So pleased I got tkts for this especially as Dd1 loves Zakharova . That's if castings don't change
  5. I am enjoying it although wish they would mention the training it takes to make it. And agree with Tulip about the size of some of them perhaps they should continue with their training to try and lose some weight, lets face it it's not healthy being that big !! Like some of the women in it and they are obviously enjoying it. Also don't like the fact they are calling dancers stick insects and robots instead of saying how dedicated and how hard dancers work. Looking forward to seeing the performance next week that's if they show it. Am wondering if ballet classes will become more attractive now to adults after this show?
  6. London Russian have a few older students In their early twenties who are training for a year before auditioning, the students full time are between 16 and early twenties. Good luck
  7. My DD has had remarks like all u do is put on those ballet shoes then its easy to go on your toes, I wish people knew how hard the training is and it's not something u can just get good at. I saw the programme and enjoyed it but hope next week they focus on the training aspect and not weight issues, some people think if u are thin then u can be a dancer if it was that easy there would be loads of ballerinas. I hope they mention about the discipline and sacrifice it takes to make it. Am looking forward to the performance wonder where they will perform ??
  8. Don't know anyone but for MT u don't have to be as young in fact I've heard of students doing MT in their twenties. I was told by a MT school that they prefer students to get A levels first then start training so they have something to fall back on. But I guess it depends in the student and what they want
  9. Same to you flutterby and hope your audition goes well
  10. Hi flutterby just wanted to reply to your post, u must know my DDs as my youngest is in junior vocational at LRBS unless u left the school before 2011? I know the teacher in question was asked to leave once the school was aware of the situation also wanted to add that the teacher was english not Russian and I do agree that the discipline for vocational students is strict, my DDs like that as they like to be pushed perhaps that doesn't suit everyone. The new teachers at the school are lovely and Last week i watched a class with a teacher from the Marinsky ballet company .Also in regard to the shows I know at one time there were a lot of performances the Director realised that it was too much so now they only do two theatre performances a year and the odd outreach. Last year the school performed at Eton, the Eton students played the music for LRBS it was a lovely experience for the ballet students. They also performed at Cadogan Hall in London with talented music students from the Russian School of music. The building work which is in progress and once finished will benefit the students and the Director has said that it will boast some of the finest studios in London, it is only the first phrase at the moment. Anyway good luck with your auditions and the School have also asked me to say that you are welcome to visit at anytime.
  11. I also know someone who went Lsc and went straight into teaching but dk where other graduates have gone. I have also heard that u can audition for ballet companies up until early twenties ?
  12. I know a lovely girl who is going Ballet West in September. I'm sure they don't have set audition dates and u will b able to attend another day. Good luck
  13. Best of luck to him people don't realise how many years of hard work and dedication it takes.
  14. Congrats to your daughter and best of luck for all the auditions to come x
  15. Hfbrew your Ds has done very well and I'm sure that all schools can boast excellent results in academics and dance, I was posting what LRBS asked me to so that others would have a choice as before this forum I wasn't aware of the school. The Director of the sch is keen to promote what they are offering and I'm sure all the dance schools will say they offer the best, most people on this forum are aware of what each sch offers. Anyway you must be very proud of your Ds. Tulip I will certainly post about future graduates and I do understand that most people look at that info in a school as I have looked myself. Linn as far as I know LRBS are In the first stage of making the premises bigger, the front studio has been extended and downstairs is having lots of work done which I believe will be the studios for the younger students. I know eventually it will be much bigger as they are extending out. They are still having classes but not as many.
  16. Linn were you at London Russian tues eve as I was watching my daughters class and the adults were waiting to go in?? I would love to go but not enough time with working etc
  17. Hfbrew I'm sure other schools are offering qualifications but London Russian just wanted to let students know what they are offering especially as more students will get the dreaded no letter back from auditions than a yes as we know there isn't enough spaces for the amount of students that would like full time places. Lets face it all schools will say they are the best. My daughter is doing Russian and French A levels and other students are doing academic A Levels some of them are doing 3 A levels. My daughter wouldn't cope with doing 3 along with all the ballet but she is getting very good tuition and very small classes at the moment. Also I don't think many other schools would let u participate in class to see if you like the school and I do understand that would be impossible in a large establishment but many of their students have started there simply because they have been given a chance.
  18. I also live in 11 plus area and some of the parents get so stressed about it .
  19. At the moment the students that are full time are still completing their A Levels so they won't be auditioning yet. They are the first 6th formers the school has had.LRBS also has two students who were at Bolshoi academy and they are doing a years training before they audition.
  20. As this post is about auditions I feel I must let u know that London Russian Ballet School which is in Clapham Is worth auditioning for. My two DD have been there for almost three yrs and have improved immensely, my eldest only did ballet twice a week before she went there, she has now reached a high standard from the excellent teaching. The school has sent me the following information so you have all the details. The school is developing the building and will have some of the best studio space in London by the summer. The teachers are either from the Mariinsky or the Bolshoi and had distinguished theatre careers. How many English boys will be taught by a student of Pushkin who taught Baryshnikov, Nureyev and Soloviev. This is the strength of the Russian system, a further example is that the artistic director was a student of Ulanova. This is not available in English schools. Yes, the school is young but the growing intake will be producing results in the next two years. The website is being updated and will have a video of recent performances which will reflect the technical strength and make it easier for others to see what is being done. The school has a very open policy. Anyone is welcome for a class or to look round. This is not the case elsewhere. There is nothing to hide. For example, before considering an audition a student could come for classes informally and make up their own mind. The school believes that it is trying to create artists. It is very interested in potential. It insists on academic studies and full A level study alongside the ballet. No other school offers such a broad range of choice. The standard of academic teaching is as high as the ballet. It has an association with St Paul's Boys School, which is one of the top three schools in the country. The school is very proud to offer its students this opportunity. It is the view of the school that it is not possible to be an artist without a rounded education. This involves hard work but is possible. The students will always have something to fall back on as well. If they get a degree it will be a real one rather than the that given in some other institutions. There is a mentor for UCAS and an academic adviser. The students are encouraged to aim high, one is considering London University and continuing his ballet performance at the same time. There have been some criticisms on the blog but the school was younger then and many people took advantage of the free classes and other generous facilities. There are fees on the website but the school is very independent. Opportunities are made available for all students. So do not be afraid to audition. If the school thinks a student has talent the school will help with the fees, in full if necessary.
  21. Yes I agree no child should be pushed my daughter was at a privately run club, but when they had competitions her club always got placed so I expect in one way the pushing paid off . Also depends on the child some like to be pushed others don't .
  22. My youngest DD did competive gymnastics before she took up ballet and she also said there was a lot of forcing done regarding flexibility !! In fact they even had a machine that was used to stretch their backs !! But on a good note it made her very strong and sometimes she says perhaps I shouldn't of given up gym.
  23. KATYMAC if I were you I would find out more about the foundation courses and ask how many of their students went on to full time study, and well done to your daughter she has done so much hope she isn't too tired
