margarite
They all seem to lose things regularly but luckily everything seems to reappear - only casualties so far this year have been a few pairs of jazz tights ...

Peanut68
Yes itâs those black jazz tights that always go missing.. Black with no label I write on... you canât itâs iron on as hat needed ruins tights.....so what do you do???? oh, I get it..... sew on âčïž
angel
I found stuckonyou.co.uk labels (the spot ones stuck really well) after years of sewing to be the best option.
DancingShoes
I use a stamp. Also means dd can take it to school for anything that we missed.  https://stamptastic.co.uk  Can stamp the inside of clothing and it doesn't show through, lasts ages. I wish I'd discovered them years ago! They do a white laundry marker too, although it's not as good as the black ones.
Picturesinthefirelight
Peanut, I've always managed to iron on both tights and leotards I just use a muslin cloth in between the iron and the label.
Peanut68
Well I must be a fiend with the iron then as managed to melt tights onto Muslim cloth, through said cloth & then ended as gooey mess on plate of iron đ„ș
Peanut68
Liking the sound of the stamp though! Thx DancingShoes!

I've ordered woven labels and some clip things that I can use for some stuff.  While I'm sat here overthinking, what is the heating like in the boarding houses? Just wondering what tog duvet to get and are fitted sheets ok?
Dancing unicorn
Hiya i would say fitted sheets are better and I know the girls house was always hot! happy labelling! ive only ever done the woven labels myself! Hundreds of the things! đ€Șđ€Ș
margarite
I gave DD two thinner duvets so she could layer up if cold or just use one if too hot. They do  have the heating up v high though.

Penguinboysmum
Sorry I'm back with more questions. Trying to build up an idea of initial costs.  Uniform Are the scarf and coat compulsory? I'm assuming they are as not listed as optional.  Dance belts - are these covered by MDS? He currently wears Intermezzo boys thong back in age 10-12, but I think he needs a bigger size now - do they get washed during the week or will he need one for every day - also do they tumble dry these? Can't imagine them lasting long if tumbledried. Are there tried and tested brands anyone could recommend.  Tracksuit - is this optional or required and is this covered by MDS as dance uniform or does it come under school uniform and to be paid for?  Is there anything else on the lists that isn't required/compulsory.  Also any other recommendations/advice about what to get/take or not bother with.  Thanks Again - this forum is a godsend!!  X
margarite
Scarf and coat compulsory but hardly ever worn, so I would try and get secondhand if possible. Tracksuit is compulsory too. Only thing DD hasnât really worn is jazz shoes as she prefers foot thongs. I know nothing about dance belts so will leave that for someone else to fill you in!
Picturesinthefirelight
Dd lost her scarf in the first few weeks of year 7 and never replaced it. She lost her coat in Year 8 at the carol service. I got her a second  hand one but she refused to wear it.  They wear the tracksuit suit every day from 4pm over their Dancewear and on Saturday mornings.
Ballet4Boyz
Oh - the dance belt dilemmas đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł they are washed and tumble dried every evening, but our DS has several pairs in case they go missing......surprisingly - they seem to survive the laundry process quite well. They are covered by MDS as part of the uniform. He says most boys prefer the âpaddedâ option as more comfortable , although non-padded are available. Most boys wear the nude ones as less likely to show under any colour of tights. We donât ask for a specific brand apart from them being nude & padded. They come in size S, M, L etc and I would think most year 7 boys would probably be size S. Dance tracksuit essential & covered by MDS - our DS has two which he rotates. He also prefers to wear turning shoes rather than jazz shoes but has them both as jazz shoes are always required for the boys in any shows. đ
Ballet4Boyz
Other useful items for boarding are laundry bag, mattress topper, coat hangers and under bed storage boxes. A lot of the students (including our DS) take multivitamin tablets . Fire away with any questions as we are all here to help đ Edited April 8, 2019 by Ballet4Boyz Typo
margarite
I bought DD a plastic trug-style carrier to store and transport shower gel/shampoo into the shower. Def get a topper, some of the mattresses are a bit on the thin side!
Dancing unicorn
Definately 2 bags! One academic and one dance!
sarahw
We bought a light to clip onto bed and also trug for bathing items. Additional storage boxes etc are useful but was is needed may vary depending on which room they get?
Peanut68
Good idea to get there on first day early to scope out room & storage to see what you could get to then add that will fit... some may have option for under storage beds or maybe a plastic chest of drawer option might be better.... thereâs a cheap B&M you can zip to (or the nearby at Bache Morrisonâs) to get these potentially - maybe research where they are & what they have first! Useful if car already full up with kit!!
Dancing unicorn
We ended up going to Morrisonâs on first day and buying a 4 draw plastic chest! It was really handy!! X
Peanut68
For one dorm it was Argos order for under storage boxes on wheels but for another it was the plastic 4 drawer chest!
Ballet4Boyz
All of the rooms our DS has stayed in havenât been large enough for plastic drawers, so the under bed storage has been a godsend. đ

Penguinboysmum
Hi sorry me again đ  How often is clothes washing done in the boarding houses? Obviously they only need 1 blazer, coat, scarf etc but how many sweatshirts do they need?  Thanks
margarite
Dance uniform every day, academic uniform and own clothes once a week. DD has two sweatshirts, four blouses and two skirts. XX Edited April 16, 2019 by margarite
Peanut68
And itâs anyones guess about bedding & towels!! Down to kids so.....?? I suspect they leave their beds till exeats when they know their parents will strip & make up bed!! I know thatâs what I do.... I do think itâs a bit yuck but exeats come round every 2-3 weeks, they shower daily & frankly Iâd not change bedding much sooner at home if totally honest!! Wouid like boarding to instigate a bed change though to a) give them practical life skills & b) spare me one job! Though it does kind of feel like you are still âlooking after themâ as at home when you make their bed all nice!! Soppy mum moment.....sigh. It is hard missing them but it does get easier with time xx I bought 2 skirts/sweatshirts/ties though know only 1 of each has ever been worn.... guarantee though if Iâd only got one of each something wouldâve got lost with ensuing dramas & desperate phone calls home đ€Ł Edited April 16, 2019 by Peanut68 Typos
