  2. Yes, the Crystal Pite creation will be something to look forward to. Perhaps in the past, and especially in ballet, there was a favour towards women. But at the moment with current choreographers, it does seem to have switched. Alastair Marriott's last piece had 6 male to one female; this new McGregor is all chaps; several of the last 'Draft Works' were all male, or with a higher male ratio. Then there are the Ballet Boyz, Rambert seem to have a lot of male onlt pieces, etc. Personally, I like seeing men and women dancing together - but then I'm probably just a fuddy-duddy! :-)

  5. had to rush out and get a copy - managed to get the last copy in my local newsagent! Whew!
  6. There are exits at the back of the stage, so dancers can nip off for costume changes whilst speeches or songs are going on. The costumes are very light, and the 'jewellery' on strips of velcro, so really easy to change
  7. She is indeed. Really enjoyed it, and looking forward to seeing it as a punter next week
  8. I was at the rehearsal for Will Tuckett's 'Elizabeth' at the Linbury Studio Theatre, which opened on Friday January 8th. Here are some photos: Carlos Acosta & Zenaida Yanowsky © Dave Morgan. 9. Yes, they spun that line of concentrating to invest when I contacted them. Now it all seems Andre Rieu and 70s/80s pop icons, plus repeats of previous output. All this AFTER they raised their charges of course!
  10. You mean where the friends have found her and the family come in and start grieving? I always find myself holding my breath at that point, and applause at such a heart wrenching moment seems way off kilter to me. Seems most folk just clap cos the stage in darkness at that point.
  11. Yes, I see what you mean re the false endings (though as ever, the clue in the music - and the fact they are still moving!). And I try to do the same when applause seems inappropriate and/or breaks the mood - although my enthusiasm does sometimes get the better of me, I can't deny!
  12. can't watch at work, but will do so at home. But I already know the result for me - and that's Miyako Yoshida! (So no bias there at all.... ahem)
  13. the stars are only people after all. I love hearing about their lives off-stage, and also feel chuffed when I get any sort of response to a message I've sent, or a comment made, or whatever. For me, makes me appreciate all the more, their skills at transporting us to 'another world' when they do go on stage - and I am never tempted to think of them as the real person they are, once the costumes and pointe shoes are on. :-)
  14. As a general thing - why do people start applauding at the end of the duet in the grande pdd, BEFORE they've finished dancing - where they do a couple of 'poses' in time to the music, before it finally ends with a sort of "ta-da" moment? (Same thing happens as Aurora finishes off the Rose Adage variation)
  15. As I recall, he was Clara's partner at the party - and he was excellent in the role!
  16. That's sadly right (I was there on the night - it looked like she bent her kneee the wrong way on a landing). SO glad she is back, and dancing so well (she was also superb as the Gypsy in Two Pigeons recently)
  17. I think you mean Benjamin Ella (as Nutcracker/Hans-Peter). He was rather good I thought - good to see him delivering, after being plagued by injury in his early RB years
  18. Yes - I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be any RB pics in it
  19. Enjoyed last night's Nutcracker performance - Fumi Kaneko was an irresistibly gorgeous SPF, her dancing beautifully poised and elegant (making even some of the less elegant lifts in the choreography seem fine). I'm feeling fortunate I have a ticket to see her do it again in January
  20. Undoubtedly - but perhaps it was practicalities in as much as they could only hang the circle and successfully drop it at a point further forward than planned. Total guess - but might account for why they found themselves more cramped than anticipated. I didn't find it that awful either - in fact, I liked the pdds - but wasn't keen on Carmen's lacy, ill-fitting costume (fully clothed in the red dress was frankly sexier), and most of the corps dancing wasn't my cuppa - and certainly not the tuneless wailing in the card scene (that would be the first thing I'd cut!)
  21. I'll hazard a guess here, that they hadn't realised how little space was left 'upstage' once that big circle put in place actually on the main stage, so what was left was a bit more cramped than they'd envisaged. Just a thought, that's all.
  22. I couldn't find it in the newsagent, so ordered it online and it arrived the next day. Which was hugely satisfying, especially at this time of year.
  23. what larks! Was surrounded at last night's Nutcracker at ROH by whisperers - who were only quiet when they were texting or filming the show on their iPhone. Fortunately, having the binoculars glued to eyes blocked out the light from the phones, so was happier to let them get on with that, than the whispering... Bah humbug!
