  1. Sourcery - Terry Pratchett and Norman England - Trevor Rowley.
  2. I particularly loathe and despise "Ace of Spades", Motorhead, that on a continuous loop should do the trick.
  3. I never keep my resolutions either which is why when asked I always say I'm going to start smoking again. Haven't had one for over 20 years.
  4. Ballet Cymru have an excellent summer school which dd attended well worth going to.
  5. I used to book seats in the Circle, quite often in seats AA or BB which are off to the side. Had a good view from there. I don't think we ever went in the Upper Circle so I can't vouch for how good the view is from there. The multi storey car park is a bit narrow so we've tended to park just outside the John Lewis car park and walk across the road. It used to be free after a certain time of night but I believe they've changed the parking fee structure since we left. Loved this theatre, the seats are comfortable and lots of room. Hope you enjoy the performance.
  6. I'm sorry to hear that you received this attitude taxi. DD had a similar experience at her local hospital. Although cannot praise them enough for the care so far with the broken metatarsals. Can you get an appointment with a physio or podiatrist? DD's chiropodist/podiatrist would never touch the hard skin on her feet. She's seeing him this Monday so he can cut her nails and give her feet the once over. We're lucky as his sister was a dancer and he has a very good understanding of dancers and their feet. Hope there is some improvement soon.
  7. Merry Christmas to one and all x
  8. I think it did originate in the UK Anjuli and I've not been persuaded to change from saying it so Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone, hope you all get what you are wising for, for Christmas and good luck to all those waiting for results and to those who are auditioning
  9. What good news Anjuli glad to see your are progressing well Could the person who looks after your garden make you some raised beds or a raised planter? We have over here wooden planters that look like overgrown mangers and are almost waist height. You can apparently plant quite a bit in them. I'm not much of a gardener but I would be very upset if I couldn't touch or deadhead. Hope your progress continues at this nice pace.
  10. It has made me realise how difficult things that I take for granted are for wheelchair bound people. I shall be interested to find out what happened as each buggy had a list with the people they were to deal with on. I had checked that they would go onto the train to get her off and had asked if I could travel down with the buggy but they wouldn't let me. This surprised the gentleman from Virgin that I spoke to. I hope he complains as all the rail lines contribute to the running of this service as do we all, every time we buy a ticket, as he informed me.
  11. Hi LinMM No we didn't incur any extra costs, I think the gentleman from Virgin phoned ahead as he knew we had missed our connection. I had an open ticket so I wouldn't have incurred extra costs anyway. It was still rather scary for her - she was banging on the window trying to get peoples attention to get her off. By the time we were all on the platform the passengers for the next journey were starting to get on the train so she would have been able to ask one of them to get her off. I will be making a complaint - I shudder to think of a wheelchair bound person being left on a train.
  12. So the journey back was a bit of a disaster. They left her on the train for half an hour at Euston. I was waiting at the taxi rank as they wouldn't let me go on the buggy. We were keeping in contact and she had been told they knew she was there and they would come back for her. In the end I went down to the platform myself and collared a member of the Virgin staff. I'm ashamed to say I used words I'm not supposed to know. I was worried she would end up going back to Glasgow. Fortunately a member of the cleaning staff had got her off the train. They had to find another buggy and it took ages. This is now 45 minutes after her train arrived. Consequently we missed our connection at Victoria and missed the buggy there. They did find us another buggy and we caught a later train. I shall be lodging a complaint for dd being left on a train, but I will be complementing the gentleman from Virgin who shot off down to find her. I had wondered if I was making a lot of fuss having arranged the assistance, but having walked to the last but one coach and being told that the Virgin trains are 1/3 mile long I am glad I booked it and will be booking it back. Just hoping it all goes right next time. She has only one crutch and is getting around quite well.
  13. Thanks for the encouragement TabbyCool. I still need to shed a ..... "shedload" before I'd be comfortable in T shirt and leggings! Its a very, very, very long time since I did ballet so I think quite a lot of practice at home first as well! Sorry, I've taken us off topic.
  14. People who leave their dogs in cars without the window open. Saw two cases in the same car park. I thought the window should be left open just a bit even in this weather. I suppose I am wrong for not calling the RSPCA .
  15. There I was thinking if I shed another couple of stone that I could go back to ballet. After reading all the posts above I'm going to have to lose the whole lot before I will be able to get into a leotard and even then I may not get one to fit!
  16. thanks for the advice on the socks. I went back to M&S and found some nice socks. They've put them in the queuing bit so its a nightmare to bend down and look as people are constantly pushing past or those that are polite are constantly asking if you're in the queue. Nearest TKmaxx is quite a way away but I'll have a look in Next when "next" 'scuse the pun in town.
  17. Hi Balleteacher thanks for all the advice. Liza Howell is on our list to watch over Christmas and pick some DVD's to buy. Was only looking at some socks today but thought M&S were a bit boring this year. Had some really different ones in Accessorize. I think we have every colour of Tescos fluffy ones - must remind her to pack those in particular!
  18. Thank you for the advice Balleteacher. I have texted her the information. As she has Raynauds it is probably very important for her to do this.
  19. Unfortunately not able to get a temporary disabled pass - ticket office doesn't think they exist and he was positive that people would give their seat up for dd. I'm not bothered, stood from Victoria many, many times. Also got persuaded to buy a Network Rail Card. Saved £10.00 on first journey, just need to save another £20.00 and I've broken even! Alison, thank you very much for the Cab numbers, that was very thoughtful and kind of you. Dd now has a boot on, so is able to put weight on the injured foot. She has an appointment in January where they might take the book off, then the real work beings! Thanks to everyone for their advice and good wishes
  20. Sorry to hear this, sending hugs and best wishes x
  21. It's Southern rail and when train splits at Haywards Heath we go off towards Ore. I haven't booked my ticket yet so I may pop into the station and see if I can get a temporary priority disabled card.. There is no assistance at our last station - it's too small, but at least a ramp and not far to the car! Thanks for the link to the Black Cab web site. Still debating whether to book one or just grab one at the rank. Have used First Class when dd auditioned for Northern Ballet School. The part from Euston to Manchester and back (Virgin Trains) was lovely. Very quiet, passable food etc. The First Class carriage on Southern rail is a small compartment - just separated by a door - nothing special so haven't bothered booking since, but the fare, if I remember correctly really wasn't that much more on the particular day and time that we went. I think we travelled on a Sunday and came back Monday so maybe a good deal on these days
  22. Hi Anjuli, it sounds positive so far. I like the idea of your knitting on the walker - does it hang there clicking it's needles in impatience whilst you are in the shower! Mmm lack of communication over the pain killers somewhat! LinMM, yes, couldn't really have picked a worse weekend to be coming back - except if this had happened during the Olympics! It is getting a bit tight to get from Euston to Victoria - we have an hour and two minutes to get from platform in Euston onto train in Victoria so I have the feeling we may miss our connection, We'll give it a go. I am afraid though that she will be getting a seat because I will be very firm and polite and ask those who don't need it to let her sit in the priority seats. I had considered First Class, but it's normally a very small carriage and I imagine is already fully booked!!
  23. LinMM - journey home is on 20 December which is why I have booked assistance because it will be manic at both Euston where she arrives and Victoria where we depart for home. She's had to rely on her housemates to get food into the lounge - no chairs to use unfortunately. Flatmates have been very good. Janet - I had actually been starting to think about booking a taxi but not sure how you do that with the Black Cabs outside Euston - if anyone knows would be most grateful.
  24. Moving here as suggested from the thread "dk injured but away from home". DD is still not in a proper boot as they didn't have one small enough!! It's on order, just hope not delayed too much by the stormy weather. Have managed to book assistance at all rail stations on her journey home - very impressed - one phone call and it's all sorted! Just trying to work out in my mind getting her in and out of a taxi. Once she's back we need to look at the Lisa Howell dvd's - any recommendations? Hope balleteacher and Anjuli are progressing well in their respective recovery.
