  1. BUPA have been amazing in relation to my dd's Physio and rehab after her operation. Can't fault them.
  2. Open evening is for anyone wishing to attend. Parents of current pupil, prospective students and anyone interested. You get to watch class, speak to teachers and in my case now, listen to the beautiful voices of the music students ?
  3. You need to for year 11. They dress up and sing a very sentimental song and most are in tears before the end
  4. Yes it's on the Wednesday. That's a shame. The prize giving itself is very enjoyable ?
  5. Yes parents can attend. It starts early so necessary to stay over for me. Some students sing. It's a lovely morning and you can take your DC out for the afternoon if you wish.
  6. Just to say that the Hammond school also take Music students. My non dancing DD has had a very rewarding time there. My only gripe is that she has been unable to take dance classes whilst there, which I find a little bit ridiculous.
  7. Sorry, wasn't sure which one. I agree then
  8. hmm reads take back Sunday night to me. The holiday in bold saying Monday 29th to Sunday 4th June. School starts Monday 5th June. Is that right?
  9. Thank you for saying that sarahw. The fact is that so few of the children hoping for classical contracts will get one anyway. My hope and theirs is that they can find employment. The next few years will be interesting
  10. Your sentence seemed, to me, to be implying that Ballet Black is where the ethnic dancers should go. That's why I asked the question. I realise that this is an emotive topic. However, it is always important to challenge racism. I am not suggesting that you or anyone else here, is being racist; I just feel that, as a parent of two young dancers who have potential in classical ballet but may well choose a different route eventually because of the issues raised by the OP, that this issue doesn't remain taboo.
  11. I can't agree that ethnic minorities - not an issue. Classical ballet companies, vocational schools and the people at the top of them, will all have their own ingrained views on what a classical dancer looks like. Physical attributes are by default an integral part of decision making. Of all the thousands of ballet dancers we all know of, there are very few black female dancers who make it to companies in Europe. Mummy twinkle toes, I am hoping that you didn't mean that Ballet Black, much as I admire their work, is the only place for 'ethnic dancers'?
  12. I saw this posted this on FB http://www.dancemagazine.com/is-ballet-brown-bagging-it-2343051742.html Thought provoking
  13. Yes that's right. It is safe and close to bus routes. If your DD is confident and independent, it's a great base. Wishing your DD lots of happiness and success at ENBS. If if I can be of any other help let me know. Angel.
  14. There were very few British girls. I understood that Queen Alex was the place to go. I know that some students found rooms in people's homes and older students flat share.
  15. Congratulations to your DD Loulabelle. Things to consider. Most of the other young women there were music students. Obviously I don't know what the ratio will be in September but it's worth considering. Would advise to find out who else is staying there and connect. Its a bus ride from school. School hours are long. Sometimes they don't get back in time to eat. This is might seem negative. The staff were very helpful.

    Tring cups

I was there last night and being new to the school, had no idea what to expect. The level all of those young dancers are at, was wonderful to see
  20. What a wonderful story. Year ago, I fostered a boy who was really showing a great deal of promise in ballet and performing generally. Social services decided that he was 'too busy' with classes. That he needed time to think about what happened in his past. They moved him. I alway think about the 'what if', for him
  21. Haven't had chance to watch ours yet but can't wait to watch it again
  22. My DD has been offered a day place. We were told that this was down to the fact that they have to wait until they know what the current 6th formers are planning to do. There is actually a lot of movement as some decide that they prefer a different emphasis and so move schools. My older DD is staying at Tring for 3rd year but has to live out so will effectively free up a boarding space. Would be nice if my other DD could simply slot into this bed but I am sure it doesn't work like that. I would love to know how many scholarships they have to give out just to give DD an idea of odds of her getting one.
  23. Yes meant to say, I have had two DD's there. Happy to answer questions and wishing you and your DS a happy time there
