  1. Exciting. I’m unfortunately not booked for the rehearsal but I’ve booked for their public performance. And Leo Dixon as Benno - I hope the cast is the same for the public one!
  2. True, it seems a lot like personal preference at the end of the day - which would vary under different ADs. I think the main way of reaching some sort of balance is to give first soloists as many principal opportunities as possible (not at the expense of principal opportunities obviously, but reaching some sort of equal distribution there - which is of course very hard at the RB as they are so top heavy). When Luca Acri did Basilio earlier this season, my first thought upon seeing his entrance was - principal material! And I hope to see him do more principal roles in future, regardless of whether he is promoted or not - ditto all the first soloists.
  3. I'm also interested to hear what it's like - I wasn't really aware of this production and don't think I have much time to see it right now unfortunately. The only Carmen I have booked is the Acosta Danza one in July.
  4. Does anyone know when tickets for Akram Khan's Giselle at Sadler's Wells go on sale? It says they open Spring 2024 which I assumed would be now, or at some point this month...
  5. Just wondering if anyone knows when it might be possible to book Sadler's Wells tickets? As there's so few performances, I'm getting anxious!
  6. I assume so. I wouldn’t call myself a new audience member (as I’ve been going regularly since end of 2021) and I have bought stalls tickets before. I got the offer email, but I won’t be using it as a) I’ve already got a ticket and b) for the other cast I want to see, the top price seats available wouldn’t work for me (can’t sit in 2nd row stalls otherwise I wouldn’t be able to see over anyone’s head given how small I am). If I’d received the offer earlier I may have used it.
  7. Definitely. I can't remember when he last did a significant main role - I think he was Mercutio in the last R and J run.
  8. I suppose there won’t be a ballet company visiting this year then? Otherwise they probably would have announced it already.
  9. Her performance was May 2022 with Bracewell, the cinema relay - the recording is now on ROH Stream. I watched it live and again recently on the stream, really enjoyed it. She and Bracewell had a strong connection throughout - I preferred her as Odette overall but still, a great performance. Definitely a huge achievement to come back to such a demanding classical role after pregnancy - as Calvert is also doing this season, good luck to her (she was also brilliant at her debut in 2022). I won't be able to see half as many Odette/Odiles this time around due to pricing increases. So I'm glad I got to see most of them in the last run. Unfortunately have to miss Kaneko's this time around but I'm grateful I got to see her 2022 performance with Bonelli.
  10. I guess so - but is it possible to accurately predict who might retire in 2-5 years? I think that the female and male principals in their 40s, for example - Nunez, Cuthbertson, Lamb, Hirano - are dancing as strongly as ever. There isn't really a cut off age exactly. Of course scaling back is necessary for health reasons. I really hope that McRae, for example, is able to come back strongly from his recent injury, but considering one's physical health is the most important thing.
  11. Oh yes - that makes sense. I think partnering an up and coming first soloist with an established principal is a good idea. Many opportunities for growth on both sides.
  12. I totally forgot that they both did the Nutcracker prince. I don't go to the Nutcracker often and if so it would only be one performance per run, so I missed them both - I'm sure they were both great. Wow, Clarke has done so many principal roles before becoming Principal. Great exposure for him. I hope the same happens for Sissens and Richardson.
  13. I would love to see Firebird and Symphony in C - I've never seen either live.
  14. A very bizarre decision I must say. I wish I could have seen her do the full length Manon at least once... and no recordings that I'm aware of, apart from the bedroom PDD in one of the RB's galas.
  15. I agree, I think they both need more time at First Soloist level, especially as Joseph Sissens was only promoted last year I think? I’d be interested to know how long the recent female principals - Kaneko, O’Sullivan and Magri - remained at first soloist before principal. I’d assume it was quite a reasonable amount of time, as it was for Clarke and Bracewell. It’s true that Sissens and Richardson haven’t done too many principal roles yet and more experience is needed. Sissens will certainly have a chance to prove himself as Siegfried - I am highly anticipating his debut with Sasaki who I also think is principal material. Richardson was a good Romeo in the last run, I’m looking forward to his Des Grieux. I hope Sissens also gets a chance to do Romeo if it comes back next season - I predict that it’s highly likely! I think as Joseph’s acting evolves he will be unstoppable. He definitely is one of my favourite dancers and I hope to see him reach principal - not right now, but I think he has massive potential.
  16. Yes indeed, a very emotional moment! I wish I'd got him flowers for yesterday as I didn't seem him with any - hope he got some on the Friday performance.
  17. Interesting, what's the reason for not logging in before 8.50?
  18. I may have to agree there. I really liked Leticia's performance overall but didn't get the vibe from her Mistress that Magri's gave - she almost stole the show for me, so that I couldn't really look away from her in Act 2. Of course, a debut performance wouldn't be at that same level yet. I am a bit surprised that Mariko Sasaki wasn't cast as Mistress, particularly after her performance as Mercedes with Sissens as Espada in Don Q. I expect because she's preparing for Odette/Odile! She really grabbed my attention as one of the courtesans yesterday - always such brilliant stage presence - alongside Chisato Katsura.
  19. Well that was stunning, especially Act 3. Fumi gave the impression that the life had really left her body, Vadim’s agony really shone through. Such a marvellous portrayal. Joseph was a brilliant Lescaut! Lots of laughs in the drunk scene.
  20. Oh great, will he be performing? I would certainly like to see him. Didn’t Ryoichi Hirano’s brother also dance with NBC? I just learned this from watching his Spotlight interview on ROH stream
  21. Yep - for me this is my first time seeing any of NYCB live, apart from the Tiler Peck performance in March last year which was hugely popular. I booked without checking the programme.
  22. Does anyone know how that works - is there fake blood in the costume that is released when the gun shot happens? Just curious
  23. I guess that may have worked better with the originally cast D.G - Steven McRae. If funds/timings had allowed I would have booked for tonight - wishing Hirano good luck for his debut as D.G, and the whole cast of course!
  24. Sorry to hear that, hope you get a ticket for the 8th! I'm grateful for your consideration to other audience members re the cough, some audiences aren't as considerate!
