  1. That football is in constant use!
  2. I've got the specialist cleaner but other than that I just use water.
  3. Are you entitled to Student Finance as you would get a Maintenance Loan which would be based on your parent's income, for your accommodation. Their preferred halls of residences are £158 per week which is a bit on the high side but there are other cheaper, private halls such as Student Roost available. Other places I can think of for ballet are Central & Rambert but I can't imagine accommodation being cheap in London.
  4. I am an advocate of training over performance. Too many schools just do show after show after festival and it's to the detriment of actually developing technique some of the time. But no performances at all, ever. My children would have given up long ago. They also attended multiple schools according to their needs. One wanted to focus much more on correct ballet technique etc, she attended a well regarded local ballet school for ballet, tap and modern and they did a show every two years. She also attended musical theatre jazz, singing and drama classes at another school alongside performing in local amateur theatre companies shows and attending various dance and musical theatre related summer schools. She never did EYB or MTB but that was more to do with logistics, she was already committed to panto and another professional opportunity when audition time came around. My other child loved to perform for fun but didn't have the same application. They attended another less ballet focused local dance school for singing and jazz dance classes and performed with a local musical theatre youth group and attended workshops and summer schools with them.
  5. Honestly? No performances at all, I’d find another school.
  6. The Hammond state that for ballet tights in a colour of your choice and canvas shoes to match colour of tights are required.
  7. And there was me thinking that £100 plus VAT per hour was extortionate!
  8. 12 hours a week was pretty standard when I was at university. 4 modules per semester, 3 hours per week per module.
  9. Just to re-iterate that directprs of limited companies who pay themselves dividends do pay tax on their dividends. Corporation tax is paid on company profits plus dividend tax is paid on dividends totalling more than £2000
  10. I'd hardly call a month's rent refund, £50 for food and takeaways including putting mobile food unit on campus & provision of clean bedding/towels for those isolating doing nothing.
  11. Not going into a studio at all isn't really an option when a child is in full time training. Its all about airflow and extraction rates. The science behind covid secure environments is vast and complicated. Some organisations are far better informed than others.
  12. Were the group not split into two and going from alternate corners? Gong in two's one after each other means everyone is dancing direct in the air slipstream. Many studios are not allowing cornerwork for this reason as advised by Dance UK. Most classes I have seen have had each participant given a designated space marked as a box on thre floor and they do not move out of that space through the whole session.
  13. I think this is why Bojo said indoor TEAM sports. In team sports the groups larger than 6 have to mix unless it is 3 a side with rolling substitutions. A pilates class or martial arts training can be organised so there is no interaction between participants. The professional organisation a local amateur company and lots of local dance schools have engaged to ensure their covid compliance have published this advice Please find below clarification on the new 'rule of six' for adult classes below. The following must now comply with the new 'rule of six' - Adult (18+) Dance and Drama Classes - Mixed Dance or Drama groups comprising of Under 18's and Over 18's This does not mean you can not work with classes of more than 6, but that you must follow the new legal 'rule of six' which in itself has a number of exemptions assuming you are a COVID Secure business. "From 24 September, organised indoor sport and indoor exercise classes can continue to take place with larger numbers present, provided groups of more than six do not mix. If groups of six are likely to mix, these indoor activities must not go ahead." The new laws are very much focussed on social interaction and hold you legally accountable if you bring together a group of individuals in a venue who subsequently socially interact (be this on inspection or subsequently by Track and Trace). You can operate classes of more than 6 in line with guidance but would need to be confident that your systems and procedures are robust and that you maintain social distance and all other mitigation outlined in your Risk Assessment. If you are in any doubt as to whether your adult groups can comply with the new law (and please remember you have legal responsibility for the ingress and egress to your venue too) then we would recommend reducing your class size to the maximum of 6. As an instructor, you are in addition to this number as you will comply with the above. We hope this helps to clarify the latest guidance.
  14. Choirs were allowed from 14th Sept but only if certain guidelines could be put in place and the venue was Covid secure. That’s all changed now of course.
  15. Oliver whatshisface has confirmed that adult amateur choirs and performing arts rehearsals can no longer be exempt. it doesn’t apply to under 18’s.
  16. Dance schools never had to follow the guidance on households meeting. They always followed the out of school activities guidance (allowed to open from the end of June) the grassroots sports guidance and the return to performing arts guidance. The latter covered adult amateurs and for those people rehearsals in groups of more than 6 were only allowed from mid August onwards..
  17. 1. Yes 2. they are not allowed in school. They are allowed them in the boarding house but they have to be handed in before bedtime. (Lots of kids manage to get around this rule).
  18. There are four schools that offer MDS funding. Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst, Tring & Hammond.
  19. Both my son’s academic school & the schools of all my friend’s children are not allowing access to changing rooms. On PE days children will attend all day in their PE kit.
  20. I once chaperoned two young children who came from their part time school when it was simply known as Expressions. I’ve always known it as a commercial/musical theatre school. I’ve always perceived it to have a good reputation but it’s never been up with the Birds & Laines of this world. However in recent years their calibre of teachers has been excellent and I’ve heard the principal is well liked
  21. Whilst I am not going to defend that particular institution I have read that policy document and am certain it is meant to refer to existing relationships such as family relationships rather than romantic ones. Financial relationships are also mentioned within the document. I’m not sure what that means but I’m guessing it could relate to sponsorships etc that might already be in place. It is very poorly worded in that respect but elsewhere in the policy it is clear that no romantic relationships must occur.
  22. Also the construction of your hips determines whether or not you can do box splits. Some people just can't.
