  1. I arrived in London from Los Angeles today for Woolf Works, the Saturday double show of Sleeping Beauty, Rusalka, and Barber of Seville. I love this city so much and all that it has to offer!
  2. Tiit Helimets gave his last performance with SFB two weeks ago and has retired as an outstanding and beloved principal dancer with the company. He is not continuing as a principal character dancer, as was announced, and is no longer with the company in any capacity.
  3. Oops . That should say in late March- early April in my previous post.
  4. I have tickets to the general rehearsal, opening night, and the three shows on Saturday and Sunday when ABT dances the US premiere in Orange County, Southern California in late May-early August. I expect to see all casts. It appears that the first cast will be Cassandra Trenary and Herman Cornejo because a short rehearsal clip was posted on the ABT Facebook. I saw all casts with the Royal Ballet last year and so am interested in seeing all ABT casts. Trenary and Cornejo should be outstanding.
  5. Last June, I was a bit late to the ROH for the opera, and I was escorted into the Royal Box, joining a few others, for the first half of the performance and then moved to my Orchestra Stalls seat at the interval. I did not have the nerve to explore the Royal Box before departing, but, yes, the view is limited and you cannot see upstage left. There seemed to be a private staircase. It made a great story for when I returned to the U.S.
  6. I saw Yuhui's Stephanie last Saturday and she was wonderful, giving a different characterization from the other Stephanies that I have seen- less scared, aware of her royal stature.
  7. Need to add that I thought Marchand was exceptional and I was devastated by Ganio’s emotional performance.
  8. None of these things occurred at the three performances I attended in Paris.
  9. Yes, what you report is accurate. I saw three performances in Paris, it would have been four but for the transit strike. I saw Muntagirov tonight at Covent Garden and am seeing the Saturday show.
  10. I am vacationing to see all four Paris Opera Ballet casts, followed by Vadim M and Yasmine N, and then Ryo H with Melissa Hamilton in London.
  11. For me, it’s hands down Liliom. I saw it twice and it demolished me both times. I had the opportunity of telling John Neumeier two years later how much I loved it and how much it meant to me. I saw his St. Matthew Passion four times this spring and discovered more in it each time. The Hamburg Ballet is bringing his Glass Menagerie to Chicago in February of 2023 and I will be there.
  12. I had several sections of the music playing in my mind after seeing it the first night. I went to the General Rehearsal and the following four performances and saw all casts, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the dancers' immersion in their roles and the exuberance of the production as a whole. The performance that most affected me and that I found especially poignant was Matthew Ball's - remarkable as Dr. John. There are many details in all the dancers' performances as choreographed that are discoverable on repeat viewings. I will be able to see Like Water for Chocolate in March of 2023 when ABT performs it in California, where I reside. I am slightly dreading seeing who will be cast as these characters who were each so beautifully delineated by the Royal Ballet dancers.
  13. I sent several emails to the ROH about my inability to sign in and a representative actually telephoned me and I was able to purchase a single ticket to Mayerling for Nov. 11 and 12. I will get to see Vadream as Rudolf as well as Melissa Hamilton with Ryo Hirano the following day. I will check into Janet McNulty and zxDaveM's recommendations as I also want to attend La Boheme. Thank you to both of you for your advice. I will be attending three performances of Mayerling with the Paris Opera Ballet before the two with The Royal Ballet, which should make it a very interesting week of performances.
  14. My problem with the website is that I cannot sign in, despite my being a supporter. And when I request to change the password, I do not get an email allowing me to make the change. All I can do is email the ROH and three to five days later, I get an email from them which is too late.
  15. I live in Los Angeles, saw both performances of Inferno when premiered at the Los Angeles Music Center in July of 2019, then five performances of The Dante Project at The Royal Opera House last October, and two performances of the music with the L.A. Philharmonic two weekends ago with Dudamel conducting (and I am planning to see the Paris Opera Ballet dance it at the Palais Garnier in May of 2023). It was a huge thrill to hear the music played in concert. I also spoke with Adès before the Saturday performance and was able to thank him for his wonderful music, which, for me, is so full of meaning. I am coming to London in June to see the first four performances of Like Water for Chocolate, which was an unforgettable movie. It's great to be able to travel again.
  16. I will be coming from Los Angeles to see Woolf Works and Cinderella.
  17. I suspect that Helgi Tomasson’s total compensation includes royalties for his works, given the reference to him as Principal Choreographer.
  18. Ashley Wheater was also ballet master at SFB before he became director of Joffrey Ballet.
  19. I didn't see this coming, and it's a great (and prestigious) choice. I live in Los Angeles, am a SFB donor, and fly up to SF regularly to see SFB. I'm relieved by her appointment.
  20. I saw The Dante Project five times. I had seen Inferno at its two performances in Los Angeles in July of 2019, and came to London specifically to see The Dante Project, and I happily also saw two performances of Romeo and Juliet (Lamb/McRae; Naghdi/Muntagirov) and one of L'Heure Exquise. I found The Dante Project increasingly profound and meaningful each time I saw it and was enriched by the experience. I am looking forward to seeing the production streamed. Thank you for the update!
  21. It was a beautiful and moving evening, and one to remember always. Thank you so much, Rob S, for the photos.
