  1. I guess there might be demand for the Takada and Hirano Romeo and Juliet in Japan, given the casting. Hopefully the keener DVD collectors amongst us would have the option to import a copy in that scenario 🙂 Which other version is planned for release? Is it the BalletBoyz film or the Naghdi / Ball performance?
  2. I didn't realise they'd filmed that performance of Swan Lake. Fingers crossed that is released at some point!
  3. I've just found this scene on the Blu Ray and no wobble or other filming issue is evident.
  4. Is this version of Don Quixote definitely from the Blu Ray? I'll try to watch again soon, but from my first viewing I found this one of the best quality ballet videos I'd seen.
  5. Yes, I'd definitely be a keen customer of anything like that. Assuming it's the same one, that Winter's Tale performance is the main reason I signed up for Marquee TV!
  6. That's interesting, I don't remember noticing that when I watched the Blu Ray - in fact I was highly impressed with the quality of the reproduction. I wonder if this means there is a chance of a Jewels release in Japan? Alternatively, I wonder if the quality would be good enough for a future streaming if that was an option for ROH.
  7. From a purely personal point of view I never understand why ballet is so closely integrated with opera or classical singing. Whilst I understand the shared history, to me they feel like very different art forms. It just happens that I love one and derive no pleasure from the other. Of course there are many who love both. And others who don't like either. It's all personal taste. But I'm afraid no amount of exposure to classical singing is going to change how I feel about it - I have tried to enjoy it many times, but it just isn't for me. I think it's valuable to give people as much exposure as possible to the full range of performing arts - sadly many people form opinions without giving them a try. And maybe a mixed programme on the BBC is a good way to do that. But I think we have to accept that everyone will have different preferences. For those of us who happen to enjoy ballet significantly more than classical singing, skipping to the relevant parts of this programme may be a useful option. Really great to hear that you found the whole programme so satisfying though and I hope many others did too 🙂
  8. Wonderful news that all were featured in their entirity! Many thanks oncnp 🙂
  9. Thanks oncnp. Did they show Kaneko/Clarke as well?
  10. Woolf Works has a special place in my heart for several reasons, but I have to say this is a wonderful filming of it that really highlights the expressive nature of the choreography and the performances. Whilst I prefer Acts I and III (just as I prefer Mrs Dalloway and The Waves to Orlando), the filming is so well done for Act II, I too was moved by it, much more so than I expected.
  11. I've been up and down, but think I've fallen into a nice routine now where I feel happy to wait a day or so if I'm not in the right mood (availability of the stream permitting!) and then often watch quite a few things in a single day when I'm really feeling it / have plenty of spare time. I'm quite lucky that my lockdown life is very flexible - I work full time, but can choose my own hours. And live alone. I have taken breaks in the middle of the day at times when I just couldn't wait to watch something! One thing I've noticed is that I have very little time for dipping into my DVD collection. And specifically don't tend to watch much Royal Ballet, apart from the odd thing I don't have in my collection - obviously including the pieces in the live shows. It's always a lovely feeling to go back to them after the very many wonderful experiences from other companies. But I hope to make a bit more time to watch them over the rest of the summer 🙂
  12. Yes I have to agree, for me personally I was more than happy to pay that given the lack of availability outside of Japan. It is filmed so well it really does feel like the next best thing to actually being there. And so nice to have a reminder of this run of Don Quixote. I loved the performance I saw at ROH and re-watched the Nuñez / Acosta DVD shortly after, but didn't feel that it gave me the same feeling. This recording certainly did 🙂 So many highlights, but I was especially blown away by the act 3 pas de deux. Takada and Campbell were on fire!
  13. Haha not cheap I'll agree 😂 hopefully there'll be more cost effective ways to get hold of this in future. Just having a break after watching the first act and have to agree that this is a beautifully clear filming. I missed this at the cinema so really enjoying the chance to see it. Wonderful performances so far!
  14. Thank you Richard, I'm sure I will Looking forward to the first viewing this evening! It was around £60 in total. But I did choose the fastest and therefore most expensive international shipping! I think the Blu Ray itself was around £35 and the internal handling costs were very low. So possibly could've reduced that to more like £40 if I'd been more patient at the end!
  15. This morning I received my copy of this Blu Ray. Very excited to watch it For comparison with Tenso, the Zenmarket experience was much slower - often taking a week or more for each internal step. In total it took around 4 weeks. The international shipping was very quick though, it was only posted on Thursday. I believe the slower service is at least partly due to reduced staff and hours worked in the current environment. Understandable of course. However, it arrived safely and I'm very grateful such a service exists!
  16. Unfortunately it didn't help me as much as I hoped. I do subscribe to marquee tv but the ticket I've already bought isn't valid to watch on marquee tv, it seems necessary to buy a different ticket instead! I'll have to stick with the laptop!
  17. Apparently it will also be possible to view on marquee tv (after buying a ticket) in case that helps anyone.
  18. Thank you so much Bruce for passing on this information and for the encouragement to further my experience of Balanchine's work. I have to say it does feel like what I've seen so far is just a small introduction to a wonderfully rich catalogue of ballets. I very much look forward to seeing more! It's great to hear that so many performances have been recorded and that there are thoughts around potentially making some more of them available. I'll gratefully subscribe to anything that results from this. And finally thank you so much for sharing all the links and insights in this thread and others. They have given me much enjoyment during this unusual time.
  19. Do you know if this DVD is still available Jeanette? The NYCB offerings have inspired me to get hold of any Balanchine DVDs I could find, but I don't think I've come across this performance so far.
  20. That's lovely 🙂 It was my first time seeing this one and I really enjoyed it too. Will also be taking the chance to watch again!
  21. The availability has just been extended - this can now be watched up until midnight on Saturday 20th.
  22. I'm very happy to pay £4.99 for Vadim. I won't be able to watch live as it happens, so will fast forward to the ballet section on catch up and skip the rest. I guess anyone watching Men at the barre will have noted Vadim's status as "the best". Might help bring a few extra people in... All a matter of preference of course, but I'm definitely a fan! I've already pre-ordered for the following week as well. Hoping for a bit more ballet, but I'll take whatever is possible 🙂
  23. A Child's Christmas in Wales is available here for 48 hours https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hzWK1wD6znY
