  1. It’s a DVD that’s in most collections...that 2003 telecast. That’s what I meant. Compared to the Betamax-recording era (78/84 timeframe).
  2. Yeah, right. 🥴 Remember how happy we were when “Dance Week” was announced? Why make the big announcement if “I’s” not dotted and “T’s” not crossed?
  3. The more I think about it, the more I’m seriously considering plopping down my $5.28 for three minutes of Vadim in Blessed Spirit.
  4. Clarification: only the 2nd mvmt (Largo) of Concerto Barocco was presented in that show. Kowroski and Fayette featured; Rutherford on for just a few seconds. The whole news about the Coppelia film is odd. It seems as if I took care of my Beta tapes better than PBS/Live from LC...and they’ve travelled around the world in trunks, through the years! (My entire collection since transferred to DVD. Wish that I could help but know the no-copy rules.)
  5. The Washington Ballet (Julie Kent, A.D.) presents its “Center Stage” Virtual Gala this Thursday, 18 June, at 7pm Eastern US time, via its YouTube channel. While details of any ballets or excerpts to be performed are sketchy, Facebook posts hint at a connection with the 20th anniversary of the famous ballet movie Center Stage, in which Julie Kent played a featured role. So will Ethan Stiefel ride in on a motorcycle? 😎 Info from TWB’s Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158409567806692&id=43875516691 Sneak-peak photos here...those red dresses from the film: https://www.facebook.com/TheWashingtonBallet/posts/10158409567806692/ Watch via this Link to TWB’s Youtube Page: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G-ebyzsvXM4
  6. Live viewing gauges level of interest among arts lovers, especially in the time zone of the theatre...and even a few of us several time zones removed who love the arts. People who made a point to “be there” even though they could’ve watched later.
  7. It’s Vadim for about 4 minutes and a non-danced Song of the Earth...while the danced version is being offered by another company, for free, at the same time.
  8. I didn’t care for the red beach towel on Francesca but I enjoyed the brief pdd.
  9. My pleasure, Janite! Between this and the recently-streamed Initials R.B.M.E., I come out of this unusual season with a heightened appreciation of John Cranko beyond what we all previously knew about him as a creator of full-evening dramatic works. I’d love to know what else he may have created during his Stuttgart years in the neoclassical (pure dance) style!
  10. Today, for only 24 hours, as of 12 noon eastern: Ballet Arizona in another wonderful site-specific ballet by AD Ib Andersen - Eroica, to Beethoven, danced in the Desert Botanical Garden. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbW5ypYPG5v1rd-bukupmtA And another one of Andersen’s desert ballets, Round, to an assortment of composers (Ravel, Debussy, etc) comes next week (June 21).
  11. Ooh...next week, it’s Vadim M. In Ashton’s Dance of the Blessed Spirits. Full orchestra will be present.
  12. I was quite touched by the ballet segment. A creation straight from the heart, fluidly rendered. Bravi! jm365, it’s fine on my smart tv (Youtube function, ROH channel). Maybe a problem with your browser? Refresh?
  13. Reflecting on yesterday’s “Quadruple Bill” of offerings: Heatscape - Miami - my kind of Peck! Saw on tour a couple of years ago but even more beautiful on film. Excellent composition, pleasantly designed, capturing the essence of Miami. Bjork - San Fsco - What a great work, despite the bizarreness of it all. Arthur Pita is a true innovator! In some ways, it reminded me of Japanese noh, eg, the fisherman in the corner. Gorgeous music, too. Concert for Flute and Harp - Stuttgart - Exquisite! Top prize of the day! Most beautiful, most fascinating ballet I’ve seen for male corps. How this gem has been hidden away in Stuttgart all of these years is beyond my comprehension. ...and then, because no one day can be perfect on this earth, there was... Waiting at the Station - PNB Seattle - What a big dark mess! Too many layers of dancers. Too much going on! How did the two married couples fit in to the story? So much made of Santo Loquasto’s costumes but it didn’t matter because of the darkness. Only the three golden girls - the fates - allowed the viewers brains to relax. So many great dancers, barely viewable. Hate to say it but I was so happy to see that train chugging up the stage at the end!
  14. I was referring to the subject of this thread (13 June 2020 live event). No need for Vimeo for that. Easy peasey.
  15. Here is the ROH’s YouTube Channel link for tomorrow’s special event. “Begins in 28 hours.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhnGXyvpClk So it’s not just on Vimeo. I’m looking forward to enjoying this on my SmartTV big screen!
  16. For a little something different... San Francisco Ballet In Arthur Pita’s Bjork Ballet, yet another offering from the 2018 Unbound Festival. They’ve already set-up the YouTube link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=98yI2LT26lw These usually remain up for a week or so...so June 12-18 or 19.
  17. More good news on rescheduled ballets that were deferred due to last week’s events in the US: Pacific NW Ballet will begin streaming Twyla Tharp’s 2013 work for the troupe, Waiting at the Station, tomorrow, June 11 @ 7pm Pacific time (10pm Eastern US; 3am on June 12 UK). It will be available through Tuesday, June 16. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10157824663383952&id=21358443951 This was originally to have been a “by donation” event. I read nothing about that in the above announcement...so maybe this one will be open?
  18. Thanks, Alison...and I’m thrilled that the LC postponed Dance Week offerings are back “on.” Hope they do the same with the SAB Celebration. Not sure if this is the right thread for general reflection on the last 2-3 months (yes, 2-3 months!) of generous ballet streams but -wow! - has this ever been a bonanza of virtual ballet-going for we balletomanes! It’s hard to choose favorites, when all offerings are blessings. For me: - Stuttgart’s Initials R.B.M.E. A#1 treasure!!! - San Francisco’s many Unbound Festival ballets...especially love Dawson’s Anima Animus. Perfect movement to music; loved the silhouetting effect. - ENB In Stina Quagebeur’s Nora - simple, powerful, exquisitely danced - NYCB - so many! - but my absolute treasure is Donizetti Variations...which I cannot wait to see “live” again! - Royal Ballet in Marston’s The Cellist (I’ve placed my order for the upcoming DVD) - Pacific NW Ballet’s extraordinary historical Giselle. Our cups runneth over.
  19. No reasons given, Bluebird, although I feel that this and other NYCB-Lincoln Center “Dance Week” postponements gave the Thursday Alvin Ailey program a chance to shine on its own, without competition from the more traditional troupes. That DTofHarlem offered its own streaming of Giselle during this weekend was a happy coincidence. Lincoln Center is (rightfully) being extra sensitive with its programming in all genres, e.g., the pre-announced traditional musical Carousel was also taken off the schedule without explanation and no new streaming date offered.
  20. Another exciting stream from Ballet Arizona: TOPIA, Ib Andersen’s 2012 creation to Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony. Available for 24hrs only, beginning at 12 noon EST, Sunday, June 7. You can watch via the company’s YouTube page: https://m.youtube.com/user/balletarizona/videos This will be the full 45-minute ballet, rather than the “making of” documentary shown earlier. Enjoy!
  21. As it turned out, NONE of these originally-announced streams from U.S. presenters for June 5 happened. All were pulled or, in the case of San Francisco, replaced by films of panels of dance experts speaking about diversity (from the 2018 Unbound Festival).
  22. The same thing happened as I watched, Bruce. A few seconds were cut from the visual film, just before the ladies run offstage, but the music plays on. The three men kneel to the earlier music. It’s a beautiful rendering of the ballet, nonetheless. These RDB dancers do it justice, IMO.
  23. So much for this...PNB has postponed today’s HouseParty premiere of the Twyla Tharp https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10157809074258952&id=21358443951 ...and I see that the link to the prev-announced Kochetkova program at the Joyce is down. Sigh. San Francisco may do the same with its Director’s Choice program but, for now, that one seems to still be on. https://www.sfballet.org/sf-ballet-home/
