  1. That's a lot of training! At 14, does she participate in any of the associates or vocational schools? Whats her favourite style of dance? At 14, there are so many other distractions, I think I'd make sure first and foremost she was happy, then take it from there. Whats her goal? Does she want to dance professionally? Teach? My DS is only 9 and he does 4 hours a week. He has just started asking for more, and seems to be keen on the idea of it being more than a hobby. To do this we may have to access a bigger dance school. Hope it works out, whatever you decide...??? xx
  2. Yep, for some reason DS loses all coordination on sports day and is as speedy as a snail at the 1500m. He hates the competitive nature of it and begs for a sick letter!! Put him in a ballet class and he concentrates as if his life depends on it. An audition and he relishes competition! Same in his academic classes, reports say he is a "daydreamer" and needs to "apply himself" more! Yet he can sit in a theatre for 3 hours wide eyed and not budge. I firmly believe the UK school system is seriously lacking when it comes to harnessing talent in the arts...???
  3. Yep, and as long as my DS is happy, I'll continue to pay for his lessons...??? xxxx
  4. Just a little musing. My friend went to White Lodge lower and upper schools. She was impressively good but still didn't manage to make it her career. In fact she was so scarred by the whole experience she never danced again after 18...? I think you have to go into it with open eyes, the competition, especially from countries such as China at the minute is astounding. At least we can be super proud that our DS/DD's were a part of it. my DS is still going round wearing his RBS wrist band he bought on the day and hopefully he will spend his nights dreaming of dancing still...??? He's dancing at a summer fete this weekend and think he's as excited as if it were Covent Garden! ???? xx
  5. So pleased the wait is a bit shorter!! ?? Lol at your twerking daughter. DS just said he did some spins, jumps and copied some of the others moves! ? xx
  6. We're back! Long day as we combined it with visiting some family Manchester way! In usual form DS came out of the audition and when I asked what they had been doing, he said, "stuff!" So clueless as ever!! ?? Later on he said it had been fun despite being about 30 degrees in there! I thoroughly enjoyed the air conditioned Costa and an hour of peace. Hello to the ladies from Clitheroe if you read this! ? Hope your DS/D's enjoyed the experience. It was a hot day and I think they were all brill to even contemplate dancing in that temperature! Now for the wait...Is it an e mail or letter does anyone know?? ?? xx
  7. Hope everyone auditioning in Manchester tomorrow has a lovely day! See you there...??? xx
  8. Looking for good condition size 3/3.5 boys tap shoes. Any lace up tap show would probably be suitable. Thank you!!
  9. Yes, we are Elmhurst'ing on Saturday at The Dancehouse Theatre in Manchester. DS is obviously keen on the idea of this being as it will be his last chance at associates till year 6, plus he likes that it's central manchester. (We live in a field up a mountain in Wales!!??) Talked last night about what he will do if he gets another no, and have agreed to fund extra classes with his current school. DS seems happy with this but then try again for associates next year. Didn't even get into the vocational school conversation! Financially that would be a nightmare...? xxx
  10. Well, over here we have been nursing our bruises after DS's no but he's not giving up! He said he's had two no's now in as many months and he's going to his Elmhurst audition Saturday so he can get the hat trick! ?? Have to keep reminding him that he has only been doing it for 18 months and isn't 10 till August so still time to improve and if you don't try, well you won't get eh?? Well done to all the yes's and sending hugs for the no's. S xx
  11. We've got Elmhurst on Saturday so I'm gonna hold off telling him till after that...xx

  18. He's just asked for them, not sure what teacher thinks! ? I'll ask...xx
  19. As an ex dancer, I can answer the what do you do after it all ends? Well the answer is, go back to college and retrain! ?? I'm a psychiatric nurse now, I fix the dancers who have been traumatised by years of audition let downs and nasty ballet mistresses! What does my son do in his spare time? Oh yeah he's a ballet dancer!!! The irony! ????
  20. Sorry to hear it's a no for you Lovedancing, but good you're going to try again. Thanks for the update, now I'm refreshing even more! ?? xx
  21. I started at 9 and was too old really! ? Are you set on ballet as a career? I'd always advise people to have more strings to their bow. I eventually danced contemporary for a good 10 years. It's a little more forgiving on the feet! Worth thinking about, can be just as elegant and beautiful as ballet. ??? xx
  22. Wanted... Jazz and Tap Shoes in 3/3.5 for DS. Like something a bit softer than PU for the tap shoes, maybe leather or split sole? Split sole leather black jazz shoes. Thank youuuuuu! ????
  23. I haven't got a Scooby Doo! ? DS hasn't been dancing for that long but DS's teacher sent me a lovely message to tell me about JAs back in January when she said he had the right "physique" He's tall, slim, and lean. Also said he had "good feet" and a "great point" for a boy. He was the tallest at the audition. Saying that, who knows??? ??? xx
  24. 18.37 now, deffo not today!! ??
