Non-syllabus Boys Ballet classes - Portsmouth area
MrsMoo2 replied to Motomum's topic in Doing Dance
Good luck! Iβve been looking for non syllabus for a while for my DS, without luck! (Iβm in N.Wales). I found it in London! Useful eh? ππ It seems more common as they get older, but at 10/11 it all looks syllabus based...xx -
My abiding memory of starting high school is homesickness! Believe it or not it was the dog I missed most! I remember calling my parents on the 10p phone on the landing, asking them to come and get me. They did, the following day! With hindsight, I wish theyβd have left me there, I missed out on so much by going home but only saw that years later...π― Good luck to your DD...xxx

How are the boys doing? DS has mostly been starting high school lately. Back to dance this week after the summer break! ππ

Aww no for us too, DS not too bothered about it as he always knew he was on the tall side for a part, so just went for the experience. Wouldnt it be lovely if they could have used more kids on less days, just to give them a taste of the big stage. I guess itβs down to costumes and funding at the end of the day. When I win the lotto Iβll produce a ballet with all our DC in, best go buy a ticket!πππ

Hi guys, yep, we are on the train back home now! Been a tiring day but DS has loved it. We even got to the M&M shop in Leicester Square he was so desperate to see!! The chap on the door said we would all know within a week, whether our DC have places or not. He also said about BRB paying for hotels for the times when rehearsals are two days together and in a Holiday Inn in London somewhere. Ballet shoes and costumes would be provided, and 4 tickets for each performance I think he said! DS was the only boy in the 2.30 class, but I saw another one going in at 3.30. If anything height will be against him but he said he had thoroughly enjoyed being a rat, rolling round scratching! π The other thing theyβd had them doing was feigning surprise on Christmas morning. And so the waiting begins, again! ππ xx

Weβre in North Wales so not sure how we would do it, but DS is looking forward to the audition experience! Like all these things there is probably very little chance of getting in so he just enjoys the days for what they are now. Bit worried we will hit cancellations etc on the trains next week. Best charge the phone for emergency re routing! ππ DS said to ask how many boys were there today? ππ xx

Iβve just ordered DS a black Kavu sling bag from the US. They have them on Amazon too, and look pretty good for throwing over the shoulder. I struggled to find a boy ish one so I had his initials embroidered on with a graphic of a dancing boy. Looks fab, and durable! πππ

Awww, yeah I know it will pass luckily!! Will keep watching lots of ballets with him and telling him one day he will be a swan if he perseveres. ππ

So, hereβs another question, DS loves his dancing, and heβs pretty good at technique, and picking up choreography quickly but he could do with being a touch more graceful! π― Hes growing like a weed and is a bit like Bambi at the minute, but any tips for helping him to improve?? Hope all the boys are looking forward to returning to classes next week! xx

How to keep up interest in dance when it starts to falter?
MrsMoo2 replied to ScottishDancerMum's topic in Doing Dance
My DD, now just 11 gave up ballet at a similar age. She too said it was boring and she couldnβt get good at it. (Sheβs very impatient!) All I asked of her was that she replaced it with something else, as she had no other hobbies. She took up contemporary instead and it suits her personality much more. Her twin brother carried on with ballet, and still says itβs his favourite dance form, so I end up in two different places on one night!! ππ -
Advice on where to start with a 7 year old please
MrsMoo2 replied to TinyNEDancer's topic in Doing Dance
We did an RBS associate audition two years ago and the standard, especially for girls was exceptionally high. Go to the insight days and see what you think but Iβd say wait at least 12 more months and work on flexibility at home alongside her classes. My DS thoroughly enjoyed his audition but I think he knew he hadnβt been dancing long enough when he saw the competition. Ironically now heβs improved heβs too old for many of them! π Typical eh?? xx -
Just to take it back to the original post. My good friend trained at WL for all her high school years and it put her off dancing for life! Ended up pursuing a career in mental health, where I met her. (Weβre RMNβs tho and not doctors! πππ) xx

Yep, had our first pair of hanami for DS and they fit lovely on his tootsies! His are a size 4 and they stretch to fit my size 5 feet too, so hoping theyβll last longer than standard canvas. πππ
