  1. Thank you both for the info. I have signed up to the ticket exchange and put e-mail alerts on. I haven't been able to book tickets online as all that's available is above 90 euros, which is price is out of my budget for the moment I'm afraid. Thank you both again so much!
  2. Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to discuss this so please feel free to move it if not. I am going to Paris on 21/12, and they are performing La Bayadère that evening. I haven't been able to find much of a clear answer, but it seems that they do offer day tickets for performances. Can anyone provide more specific details about how to obtain them? Is it similar to the ROH day tickets? Any advice would be so much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
  3. Poor Natalia, wishing her a very speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing her when she is well.
  4. Center Stage is a firm favourite of mine. I have heard some of the RB artists reference it before as something they loved growing up as well. It's rated PG13 in the US, so some language. It's very cheesy and cliché but it's got Ethan Stifel, Julie Kent and Sascha Radetsky from ABT in it. https://youtu.be/Q-TDHRcFKWI *edited to fix link*
  5. I absolutely enjoyed last night's performance, it was such a delight. I have been waiting for a chance to see Marcelo Gomes and thought he was fabulous. As a bit of a newcomer to ballet it was also my first time seeing Ivan Vasiliev. My husband and I could not get over how few people were there - in the upper circle the ushers encouraged everyone to move forward due to the lack of attendance before the ballet began.
  6. I went to the exhibition on Monday, the pointe shoes are in the first case as you enter the exhibition on the right. They look glorious!
  7. Probably old news, as the performance of Bayadere was last night at ABT, but Maria Kochetkova posted a picture on her instagram last night confirming Natalia's injury kept her from performing. https://instagram.com/p/3fuJTlEUW3/?taken-by=balletrusse If that link doesn't work, https://instagram.com/balletrusse/third picture.
  8. Here goes my brief and very amateur 'review' of last night....I had no idea what to expect last night, the only McGregor I have seen in real life has been Qualia, and the DVD of Chroma. The first Act was, in my opinion, just perfection. I got goosebumps about 5 minutes in, and was moved almost to tears, especially during Ed Watson's bit towards the end. It was just beautiful, with a real narrative- I couldn't look away. Alessandra Ferri is just such a quality dancer and I am so happy I was able to see her. The second Act was probably the weakest for me, I heard someone during the interval describing it as a bit too German disco, with all the laser lights and skimpy costumes. It felt very long, though it was the same length as the others. The costumes didn't really hit it for me, though I understand they correspond to the time travelling gender bending aspect of Orlando. The final Act was beautiful, but got a bit too samey for me after Federico and Alessandra's pas de deux (which was lovely). I am slightly shocked it got a standing ovation, mostly because I've never seen one at Covent Garden before, but feel it was very deserved on Alessandra Ferri's part, she was just pure magic. I will be going back again to see the second cast, mostly due to how in love with the perfect first act.
  9. I really enjoyed last nights performance! I managed to see Natalia and Steven in the friends rehearsal, and how far they have come from that. I thought their acting was on point, and the dancing was breathtaking. I kind of missed what happened with the backdrop and Peregrine's cart due to where I was sitting, but that was the only hiccup I really noticed. A brilliant evening where I was really caught up with the story. Performances like that make me remember all over again why I fell in love with going to the ballet.
  10. My younger sister (14) read Bunheads by Sophie Flack, and really enjoyed it. I suggest looking at the description to see if it is appropriate, of course. She's also read Breaking Pointe and it's sequel Girl in Motion by Miriam Wenger-Landis which are more young adult targeted. .
  11. Some ballet books I've enjoyed recently... Astonish Me by Maggie Shipstead - fiction. Can't recommend this highly enough, I just found it a delightful read. Where the Snowflakes Dance and Swear: Inside the Land of Ballet by Stephan Manes (nonfiction). A very comprehensive all access look at the PNB ballet company. Winter's Season: A Dancer's Journey by Toni Bentley. Autobiography of a Balanchine ballerina.
  12. thank you, sorted! sorry i'm still a bit new here. will be using the search feature much more often
  13. Slightly o/t, but does anyone have any recommendations for any Margot biographies or fantastic ballet books in general? Apologies if there is a thread already on this.
  14. It seems to be up online now. http://www.roh.org.uk/news/ballet-and-dance-201516 Thoughts?
  15. I saw that Iana Salenko had posted a link to a video of her and Steven rehearsing. A sneak preview of tomorrow's matinee which I am actually very excited for. The link for anyone who is interested; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF-4v46ZRTY
  16. I really enjoyed last night, I brought a friend who had never been to a ballet before and she was in love with it afterwards. I noted the coughing during the first and second act, and I was in the lower slips left near the stage it must have been ridiculously distracting in the amphitheatre. I am very much looking forward to seeing McRae with Salenko on Saturday.
  17. I went last night (11/03) and thoroughly enjoyed Petite Mort, but was very distracted by audience behaviour up in the second circle seats. Lots of sweets wrapper rustling, a mobile phone went off during the beginning of the ballet before the music had started...so disappointing in that respect. Max Westwell with Tamara were such a standout for me, as it was the first time I've seen Tamara dance. Spring and Fall I found really repetitive and was only saved by a sweet Alina Cojocaru. I was also excited to get a brief glimpse of Precious Adams and hope we get to see more of her in the future. My husband and I ended up leaving early before the final ballet mainly because I wasn't feeling well, and only slightly due to the amount of talking in the crowd during the performance put both of us off. We are quite a young couple, both 28, and rarely if ever moan about audience behaviour, but when we left he commented to me he felt it was more a cinema atmosphere and very different from what he's come to expect from a ballet crowd. I should probably move most of this post to the audience behaviour thread, my apologies. From what I saw thought everyone danced really well, and feel slightly guilty about letting the audience and feeling unwell spoil it a bit for me. I am a little bit gutted to have missed Tamara's Q&A after the program.
  18. I am such a newcomer so please excuse my silly questions but will anymore tickets be released for general booking for Whelan/Watson?
  19. Yes please to Ball and Naghdi for R&J! They were so lovely together in Onegin.
