  1. Do you mean during the show or at the curtain calls MAB (I was not at Glyndebourne so am not clear what happened)? If it was at the end one could imagine alcohol consumed during the long interval may have played a part.
  2. It's all politics. To unpick the history of the recent appointments in Vienna would take pages but, suffice to say, it's not about the work, the dancers or the audience.
  3. Bumping this up as it's on soon. Happy to reduce the price for the same reason!
  4. Many thanks Jan (I don't have Facebook). Is the first half of the show up as well?
  5. I'm being thick and can't find the link to the recording. Can someone help?
  6. Quick shout out to two of the Emerging Dancer candidates who did well on Friday night: Daniel McCormick's Bluebird was greatly appreciated by the crowd (even better on the first night, I felt, but strong nonetheless) and Connie Vowles' White Cat offered a most appealing alternative to the usual gentlemen-prefer-blondes characterisation. Good luck tomorrow!
  7. At the risk of being repetitive, have you tried Googling Wayne Sleep + Neapolitan? That brings up a famous recording showing one way this can go.
  8. Sadly can't now use my ticket for Sleeping Beauty this coming Wednesday 13th (Takahashi). Aisle seat in the balcony £14. Able to meet before the performance. Please PM as well as posting here.
  9. Thanks capybara. Has anyone got a list of all the pieces and performers, for the benefit of those of us who couldn't be there?
  10. Yes Barry was (mostly) on tv. Here is a little more on Neil (no relation I think), assuming we can trust Wikipedia that is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Norman
  11. We were given a public update tonight during the Backstage Insight event. The stage management team said that, although they knew in advance that Osipova would make her Act III variation entrance (the "fouetté" entrance) from the opposite side of the stage to the other Odiles, they had no prior knowledge of what she would do next, ie the turns round the stage. With, if I understood correctly, the result that the follow spots weren't ready or able to follow her. That was a perhaps comical side note. Less amusing was a hint of what some have feared, that the fouettés were abandoned because of a "possible injury". Or so they told us. I hope she's ok. Fouettés or no fouettés, injury or no injury, it was, as others have said, a stunning performance.
  12. ...which was one of the transcendent moments from Osipova last night. I actually made a noise - of shock, surprise and then delight - as I thought I saw her transform into a swan in front of us (apologies to those sitting near me for my involuntary sound!)
  13. You could be right about her occasional lack of control last night BBB, but I can't see how one could characterise what she chose to do at the end as somehow *easier* than fouettés?! In any case, Osipova's artistry was so abundantly on display throughout, investing what can so often seem just generic school steps with feeling and specific narrative meaning, that I'll happily trade the many gains for whatever occasional imperfections we also saw.
  14. Something like this, perhaps (about 25 minutes in)? https://youtu.be/TtrHojRfHkA Osipova was - if that's possible - even more dramatic, circling the stage again and again.
  15. Many thanks. My confusion arose from seeing that the ENB has designs by Peter Farmer. Peter Farmer did not do the original ABT MacMillan production (that was designed by Nicholas Georgiadis), so - obviously too hastily - I assumed this was RB 1973, as designed by Farmer. On a quick skim Jann Parry's 2009 biography of MacMillan does not appear to mention ENB 2005, so where might one find more detail on the journey from ABT Georgiadis to ENB Farmer?
  16. As a postscript, just noticed this morning how the MacMillan Estate characterises the production on their website so thought I'd copy it here: https://www.kennethmacmillan.com/the-sleeping-beauty-1/
  17. For those who might otherwise have missed this great offer for Cole Porter's masterpiece: http://www.balletcoforum.com/topic/17855-opera-north-kiss-me-kate-london-coliseum-june-2018/
  18. I was there tonight and got some interesting things from the evening. As the link is up already maybe it's worth giving this a bit more publicity: Particularly valuable to me were the comments made by chorus director William Spaulding and the later talk by Margaret Reynolds.
  19. I feel there are some detail issues with storytelling and stagecraft in the opening and Act 1 (but suspect things will settle down soon enough). Like annamk I would be interested in expert comment on what was dropped and what has been added, in Act 1 as well?
  20. Ah yes, someone Swiss would be likely to have a more serious relationship with cows than the rest of us (except Indians perhaps?) 😊
  21. If you are still looking Sue, I may be able to help. Will PM you now.
  22. Indeed. I am shaky on still images: what is situation with fair use (comment, review and so forth)?
