  1. You can queue inside at the box office on the day of performance for returns (mainly from hotels and travel agents). I've done this twice and managed to get good seats. You may have to queue for a few hours so bring a good book!!
  2. Alison, I believe it is a 2013 recording, broadcast in cinemas in May of that year. Anna Nikulina is Juliet and Alexander Volchkov is Romeo. Full cast here: http://www.bolshoi.ru/en/performances/344/roles/
  3. I saw this cast this afternoon Janet and I thought they were terrific. I saw Maillot's Lac in London last year and didn't warm to it. I think this is a much better ballet.
  4. It looks as if there will be a livestream of this performance, which is part of the XV International Ballet Festival at the Mariinsky, on 19th March 2015 at 19:30 (15:30 Irish time). It will be broadcast from the Mariinsky.tv website It's not clear to me whether there will be any geographical restrictions on viewing but worth noting that I can view an archived webcast from 8th Feb without any problems - so fingers crossed! The programme for the evening includes Act II from Legend of Love (Grigorovich), Schéhérazade (Fokine), and the Grand Pas from Paquita (Petipa). Dancers include Alina Somova, Kimin Kim and Vladimir Shklyarov.
  5. Article in today's Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/conflict-between-ukraine-and-russia-spreads-to-stage-and-screen-1.2056837 Unusual to see a ballet photo in the world news section
  6. According to the Danses avec la Plume website it will be in Sadler's Wells in 2017. Aurélie Dupont, Marie-Agnès Gillot, Jérémie Bélingard, Eve Grinztajn, Sébastien Bertaud and Julien Meyzindi are the dancers who will be participating in this new work.
  7. I went to see the San Francisco ballet in Paris this summer (Théâtre du Châtelet). It seemed to be the custom not to stand up to let you in to your seat. They didn't seem to mind you climbing over them!!
  8. Now it seems that the livestream will be on 4th November not today. https://www.operadep...-de-keersmaeker
  9. I agree with you Alison. I didn't really like the choreography and kept seeing Spartacus also. The choreography for the corps didn't really move the the story on (not that there was much of a story) and was a bit repetitious. I thought the principals were great apart from some uncertainty in the lifts in the pas de deux between Maria Allash and Denis Rodkin (understandable given the cast change) I hated the music. Interesting to see from the point of view of ballet history but I wouldn't be rushing to see it again.
  10. Ann, Check this listing http://www.timeout.com/london/film/royal-ballet-live-encore-screening-manon
  11. There was a South Bank Show (2012) on the role of the male dancer on Sky Arts 1 which had interviews with Baryshnikov, Carlos Acosta, Edward Watson and Tamara Rojo. More info here

  13. I visit the links page every day and love the way it is organised. While it may be frustrating, please continue to post all links even those behind a paywall - I make a note of these and access them via the library later. I know how much work is involved in curating these links and it is much appreciated. Many thanks to all involved.

  16. I prefer the Opera Garnier. The Opera Bastille is very large and you could find youself very far from the stage
  17. I don't know if there are many people on this forum from Ireland but Manon is live in HD in some cinemas (IMC, Lighthouse and Screen in Dublin; Carrick on Shannon and Letterkenny). The Manon performance is on May 18th and is the farewell performance of Aurélie Dupont. According to the Paris Opera website it will also be available from May 19th on Culturebox (online I think) There is also (to be confirmed) Nutcracker (recording) and Fêtez la Danse (which I think is a recording of the Défilé and Etudes from the livestream of October 4th) on December 18th. This is to be presented by Brigitte Lefèvre. http://classicalartsireland.com/1415-nutcracker-fetez-la-danse-ballet-de-paris/ http://www.fnacspectacles.com/place-spectacle/manifestation/Retransmission-Ballet-FETEZ-LA-DANSE-----ACFET.htm#blocInfos
