  1. I hate ironing with a passion - so I found the answer - I get my dh to do it all, after all I work too & we all have to do our bit!! He gets through it by watching a film or football - but I still have to put it all away!!!
  2. Congratulations. Fingers crossed for the final Lil.x
  3. Were you one of the lucky 6 Lildancer96? Feel free to not answer if you don't want to.x
  4. Hi I did this last night for my dd. The healthy bmi range is different from adults & is also different for girls & boys as I did my ds as well. Not that we were concerned about either of them, just that dh was looking at his last night so they wanted to do theirs too Google childrens bmi calculator & there are loads of sites. It takes into account their age,sex & height. Hope this helps.
  5. Not at your stage but just wanted to let you know that I know how you feel. I too am going slightly crazy trying to decide what is best for dd. Maybe we are all mad and we just don't know it Would it be possible to set a length of time for her to see how it pans out? You never know, once you get into the routine of it it might be fine. On the otherhand, if it wasn't working, would the disappointment of saying it's not working be too much?
  6. Regattah, She is small. I myself am only 5 foot 1 so she's not going to be a giant. I would say she is in proportion & I do think she has a small torso. Rejection is something that as dancers they will have to experience, she is totally aware that this is the case so maybe it's worth a shot? Without MDS ,unfortunately, she wouldn't be able to go, again, even at a young age, something we have made her aware of as she is very mature for her age & we believe in being completely honest with her (not that others don't). Her teacher thinks there is potential and is willing to support her application - and you only live once, if you don't try you'll never know
  7. Just so difficult to know what to do for the best when you're new to the dancing world
  8. spannerandpony and swe, dd is auditioning for associate classes in April & May The advice came from a teacher my dd started going to this month for 'extra' classes. Unfortunately her teacher who does her 'core' classes usually has pupils who apply at 16 but will give my dd as much help as she needs & has said she will support any application she makes.
  9. Found this topic whilst going through old posts. Just wanted to ask your opinion please. Was speaking to a dance teacher about my dd applying for vocational school & she suggested not applying for Elmhurst as she doesn't have long limbs - would others agree? Part of me thinks let her do it for the experience and the other part of me thinks the money for audition/travel etc could be better spent on extra lessons or something.
  10. Hi Megan. Welcome! I'm fairly new and have got loads of advice and info on here for my dd. Also look at the northern ballet school's website. Which year are you auditioning for or is it for the associate programme?
  11. Beautiful paintings you talented lady. I admire anyone that is arty and crafty as I'm not. I just don't have the patience for it. xx
  12. Sorted extra classes out now after speaking to her teacher today. So from next week she will be doing: Mon - 45 min ballet class for the grade above Weds - 2 hour barre work, flexibility, strengthening, body conditioning Sat - 45 min ballet class, 30 min tap class & 30 min modern class She is also aauditioning for Yorkshire ballet scholarship centre - which if successful - would be a 1 1/4 hour ballet class on a Saturday morning.
  13. Think we've decided against the IF for now. DD has her core classes on a Saturday & after speaking with her teacher today, her teacher has given permission for her to go another dance school for a 2 hour class (barre work, body conditioning, strenthening & flexibility) & also to audition for Yorkshire ballet scholarship centre. She has also said that she can join in with the ballet class the grade above on a week night. Think that will keep her busy for now
  14. 2littledancers - is this for RBS JA?? If so, and you don't want her to miss her normal classes have you looked at other JA programmes? I'm sure I read somewhere that you are in Leeds? If so, there is JA with northern ballet in Leeds on a Friday night, SLP college in Leeds once a month on a Sunday, Yorkshire scholarship centre in York on Saturday morning. Think there may be others Manchester way? Hope this helps
  15. I was just wondering how long it was from your child starting these classes to them being entered for the exam? Obviously I am aware that each child is different. My dd dance teacher only teaches part time so I have been looking at additional classes. One of the classes she has been offered is the intermediate foundation. Although we can make the class at present, once she passes her next exam for her 'core' classes, her classes will be later in the day & therefore she would be unable to make the intermediate foundation class. I don't want to start her on something that she would be unable to complete.
  16. I personally would pay attention to the lyrics as you don't want your child singing a song that is too old for them or that is inappropriate Lots of songs my daughter loves would just give out the wrong message even though it would be unintended. DD loves notorious by the saturdays (she's not notorious & she's not a gangster), california king bed by rhianna (a 10 year old singing about a 'little last night on these sheets' ) and Miley Cyrus' I can't be tamed As much as she loves the songs & may be innocent to some of the words, if a 10 year old sang I can't be tamed, i would wonder what I would be letting myself in for
  17. Well done Little Ballerina. You are clearly very talented.x
  18. Hi all Just had an email from Grand Opera House, York advertising the ENB performance of my first sleeping beauty. They are also doing workshops for age 7-12 on stage. I have checked the booking form & there are other workshops around the country, although I think London was booked up. Thought it might be of use to somebody, although it does say no previous experience required. Anybody ever been to one of their workshops?
  19. Yes it is for year 7. What is the purpose of the singing exercise? Also, if you take sheet music, unless you have singing lessons, you will only have ever sang with a CD which is completely different.
  20. I know it's a long way off yet until auditions for 2013 start but just wondered if someone could give me some brief information please? Generally speaking, does the majority of the audition take the format of a class? I am guessing the children have to do a solo piece. Is it 1 min 30 secs & do they take the cd/music in with them? Do different schools specify a specific dance style? eg with Elmhurst being ballet - do they specify a ballet solo whereas Hammond will allow ballet, tap or modern?? Finally, do the children have to sing? I am sure I have read this somewhere on a forum but I might be wrong. If so, what is the purpose of this? Many Thanks xxx
  21. I would personally suggest my dd wears dance school or show leotard but I'd seen somewhere someone say something like - we spent ages choosing a leotard for the audition - & wondered what the norm was.
  22. My dd is applying for the associate programmes with yorkshire ballet scholarship centre in york and slp college in leeds which are both at weekends. I am sending the applications off this week. Unfortunately all the others are too far to tie in with other things- as we live right on the east coast - literally - the seafront for the north sea is 200 yards from our front door. Even northern ballet is too far due to the finish time of school and start time of the class. As grumpybearzuk says - if you don't try you'll never know. It will be nice even for the experience. I noticed somewhere someone talking about audition leotards - anyone buy anything specially for these?
  23. congratulations to those with yeses, comiserations to those with no & fingers crossed to those who are awaiting bursary info.xxx
  24. taxi4ballet, yes I agree with you. Her teacher only teaches on Saturdays which is why her ballet, tap & modern class are on the same day. The new class I have signed her up for is with a different dance school on a Wednesday. The associate classes, if she is successful, would be a Saturday or Sunday. I'd love to sign her up for more but we have no local schools that are of a decent standard unless we travel 15-20 miles. The associate classes depending if she is successful would be a 1 hour or 2 hour drive each way.
