  1. My dd has 2 different dance teachers & 1 of the dance schools said she would like to spend a bit more time with dd working on a one to one basis. Dd doesn't go there for her core lessons & both teachers teach differently. The teacher who has offered them has a school full of students who are 'serious' about dancing rather than as a hobby & who go on to vocational schools which is what dd wants to do. It wouldn't form part of her regular schedule, it would only be on a short term basis - hoping it's not too many otherwise I will be permanently working overtime!!
  2. Hi Does your child have private lessons and if so, how old is your child, how often do they have them & how long for? What benefits have you seen from having the private lessons? Did you request the private lessons or were you offered them? Many Thanks smallbythesea
  3. Thanks everyone. No, I haven't heard anything but as pp says, it could be due to 2 bank holidays.
  4. Good luck to your dd's. Found all of this really interesting. I too think it's good that you get the results quickly - but then again I am impatient
  5. Boogalou, I agree it's good value for money. I would be surprised if anyone has anything to do with midlands associates at Newark as this is a new associate programme with their first ever audition on 3rd June. Having spoke to them today, the associate programme also appears to be good value for money for 5 hours worth of classes. I am now reconsidering travelling all that way so dd may be auditioning after all.
  6. This the first year, it's absolutely brand new which is why people may not have heard of it. Maybe they are telling people through schools where they are guest teachers which is where I heard it from. I also believe that Peter Parker teaches at York Scholars & they are probably hoping word will get around through their various contacts. When I was first told about it the summer school wasn't even on the website, so that is also quite recent in the last couple of weeks. It's just a shame it's so far away from us.
  7. Think so, but they are also called Midland associates - don't know if the 2 are related???
  8. It's nearer Nottingham so don't know if this counts as the Midlands???
  9. Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Don't know if you also know of www.midlandsassociates.yolasite.com It is based in Newark, once a month. I think on a Sunday, again I think 10-4. They have also just announced a summer school. It is run & taught by Shannon Parker(San Francisco ballet,Northern Ballet) & Peter Parker ( Northern Ballet). Unfortunately, it's a bit too far for us to go. My dd's dance teacher who she goes to for extra classes told me about it & has been to view the facilities and recommended it. Think Shannon & Peter Parker are guest teachers at that dance school for some classes & also their summer school.
  10. Hi All4dancers, It was interesting that there weren't many children there at all. I was sat in the upper circle & there were only a handful of children up there. Fantastic view though.
  11. JaneL - Thank you, I will give those books a go. I have several on my bookshelf that I haven't read so they will be on my 'to read' list. taxi4ballet - I love Julie Walters - did you see her on the Graham Norton show a few weeks ago? Just picked a book off my bookshelf - The Visitor by Lee Child, read some of his other books which are all thrillers. Very detailed books which allows you to really build up a picture, no good if you want an easy read without thinking too much, but very gripping.
  12. Wow. How fantastic. Only the 2nd ballet we've ever been to and we absolutely loved it. My dd didn' t take her eyes off it - she was looking forward to pineapple poll and didn't want it to end, bless her. I enjoyed the hobsons choice clog dance and the pas de deux but it was all amazing. My dd left on a real high.
  13. My dh says he will make sure that he is polishing a shotgun (not that he has one!) when dd brings any boys home!!!! He also says she won't be allowed out until she is 40 - to which I replied "don't worry, i'll let you sneak out of the back door & you will have to run down the passage" lol. Anyone seen the latest twilight film? I love when Bella's (the main characters) Dad is giving a speech at her wedding breakfast: "Edward will be a good husband, I know this because I'm a cop, I know things. Like how to hunt somebody to the ends of the earth. And I know how to use a gun."
  14. Anjuli, my dh actually gave me a funny look as I was laughing so hard reading your post Think he wonders what on earth I am doing on the laptop.
  15. Before we moved, the school my dd went to had their own syllabus based on the BBO (British Ballet Organisation) syllabus. She now does ISTD.
  16. Just finished The Hunger GamesTrilogy by Suzanne Collins which I know is classed as for teenagers but was really good. I read the 3 books within 2 weeks as they were so gripping. Bought them after watching the film. Another favourite of mine is The Northern Lights trilogy by Phillip Pullman - again classed to be for teenagers but I couldn't imagine a teenager being able to follow it as it's quite detailed but an excellent read.
  17. Has anyone heard of anything dance related being held during May half term in the way of workshops etc???
  18. Reading again here - I also like reading true crime but have just finished the hunger games trilogy. I love zumba, but haven't been for ages & must get back into it. Actually, not enough, I spend most of my life living at & ferrying my kids to their various activities, work & housework - must try harder!!!!
  19. No it's not on the website as yet. It says to be advised.
  20. Just noticed that EYB have updated their website to include auditions in Preston. Auditions are Monday 19th Nov for performances in spring tba.
  21. So that would be 3 and 1/2 hours for me then
  22. Thanks angela_stapleton, unfortunately it's the other side of the country for me but it might be of interest to someone else.
  23. Hi Boogalou I'm fairly new to this too. This is a fantastic forum! I think EYB are back in York next year but there's no info as yet. Can't find anything about workshops at Northern Ballet, I will have to look again. Thanks for the Yorkshire Dance Centre, I will have a look at their website.
  24. Hi As the title suggests, does anyone know of any dance opportunities in Yorkshire? I am thinking opprtunities other than dance and associate classes. There seems to be postings for workshops/days of dance/EYB/NYB/ etc in the South of England, midlands and north west but very little in Yorkshire? Or do I just not know about them? I think some exposure to other opportunities would be a great experience. smallbythesea
