  1. Wow!!! Your children really do a lot. My dd is wanting to go to vocational school in 2013 (September) and we are currently looking at increasing her classes. She is 10 years old & is currently doing all ISTD 45 min ballet, 30 min tap & 30 min modern every Saturday. Her teacher only teaches part time. The subject of high school came up a month ago & although she has mentioned vocational schools in the past it wasn't discussed seriously until about 3 weeks ago - after reading all your childrens lessons I sort of think she might have missed the boat. I did enquire at another dance school & have signed her up for an additional weekly 2 hour ballet class which includes body conditioning and flexibility work. She was also offering a ( I think) intermediate foundation class but this clashes with her core classes and also a pre pointe class but this clashes with my work as I work nights! She is also auditioning for 2 associate programmes - 1 of which is a weekly 1 1/4 hour ballet class, the other offers a monthly ballet and jazz class. If she could get into one of those I think that would be a huge benefit. I'm wondering if this would be enough? Everyone that sees her says she is a lovely dancer & when her school did a show recently, people said she really stood out from everyone else. I did discuss with a vocational school the number of classes but she said she was looking for potential.
  2. I am currently increasing my dd's classes in addition to her 'core' ballet, tap & modern classes. Her current teacher only does dancing part time but is happy for us to go elsewhere so I have found a 2 hour ballet class which also works on body conditioning and flexibility.
  3. Hi We are in the same position. DD wants to apply this autumn. Dad isn't against it but is concerned, said he never thought his dd would be leaving home at 11 - there's a long way to go yet. My opinion is if she doesn't try she will never know and I want my dd to look back and think - Mum & Dad did everything they could to help me not that they stood in my way. Other siblings have to be taken into account though & if there's no money for anything else then that wouldn't be fair.
  4. Also just to add, their associate classes are weekly not monthly
  5. Northern ballet in Leeds are doing summer schools, YBBS in York and the yorkshire ballet scholarship centre in York. Think Northern Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Hull might be doing one but not sure whether ballet is included.
  6. I spoke to one dance school yesterday & she said they are not looking for them to have passed a certain grade. They are not looking for the children to be doing a certain number of hours per week or being a junior associate as they can teach from scratch. They are looking for potential and suitability. Hope this helps. I'm sure they are all different though.
  7. So what happens when the children are asked to leave? Where do they go from there? I am looking at Elmhurst and Hammond.
  8. Literally just had a reply. Depending on the class she is allocated if successful the classes are 9.45-11.05 or 11.05 to 12.25.
  9. Thank you spannerandpony. I might be wrong but isn't YBBS different to the scholarship centre???
  10. Hi Anyone look at applying for year 7 for 2013? I'm currently looking at and weighing up all the options. Any advice from you experienced mums out there???
  11. Hi Does anyone know when their junior associate classes are held in York please? Think it might be a Saturday but it doesn't say whether its morning or afternoon so not sure whether it will clash with classes. Auditions are in June.
