  1. The post has arrived - it's a no for dd this time She has dancing tonight so hopefully this will pick her up. Roll on next months audition!!
  2. Still nothing in the post, they did say it would be by the end of June, so we should all know by Saturday, but the wait is agonizing!!
  3. First book finished, dh downloaded 2nd one for me at dinner time. Not getting much housework done today!!!!
  4. tomuchtallent and Janet, Started the fifty shades of grey trilogy .....very addictive. Someone let me start it on their kindle at work on our meal break - bad mistake. Tried to source it, even online it has sold out & there are 78 people waiting for a copy at the library!!! Unfortunately for my dh I persuaded him to put it on his kindle for me, he will have to get the 2nd book for me shortly lol. I would love the actual books though, nothing like holding a book.
  5. My dd is going to one of her dance schools for a week. They will be doing ballet, tap, modern, jazz, street & contempary (sp?) and they are also having guest teachers. I know of a another dance school in Selby (North Yorkshire) that are doing their own summer school, dd went to this when she was 7 as she went there for all her dance classes when we lived there but I do know that it may not be as 'intense' as other dance schools.
  6. Have you tried calling him on the telephone number on the website? 01623 820 810 x
  7. tomuchtallent, let me know how you get on with it please. I saw them in the bookshop & read a good review about them. Got quite a few books to read at the moment before my next purchase but would be good to hear your thoughts. smallbythesea
  8. Fantastic news stardancer. Congratulations to your dd.x
  9. Stardancer, dont give up hope yet - it's only been a week and half. Bear in mind that he teaches throughout the week and he did the York Scholars audition this week. Did they not give you an indication how long the results would take? York Scholars said asap but no later than the end of June. How old is your dd by the way? Dd was one of the few 'loners' at York Scholars audition which I don't think is a bad thing at an audition. Plus she got to see Shannon & Peter Parker before the Newark audition.
  10. Nice to see you too Boogalou. See you next month! Let me know how C gets on.x
  11. My dd was the only one from her 'core' dance school auditioning. But there were 2 from the dance school where she goes for extra lessons. I agree that there did seem to be a lot of people from the same dance schools sat in groups with just the odd one or two of us sat alone. But possibly some dance schools promote associate classes more than others. I know from previous posts people have said to concentrate on yourself as others might put you off - I warned dd of this beforehand & it did provide some entertainment & distracted my dd from her nerves rather than intimidating her My dd really enjoyed the experience which is the main thing & actually said she didn't know what she was nervous about. She was absolutely buzzing when she came out. Now we just have to wait..... I hope the letter is addressed to me - I've already been told that if it's addressed to her I have to wait until she comes home from school The suspense will kill me - something I will have to learn!!!!
  12. When your dd is practising dance routines walking down the supermarket car park or shopping aisle In the shower we have a squeege thing for wiping the shower screen doors - saw her tonight go up on demi-pointe to reach the top & down into plie to get to the bottom - on all 3 screens!!!
  13. Don't know how long the offer is on for, but Pineapple clothing is buy 1 get 1 1/2 price when I went into Debenhams today. Some of it is also half price. Hope this is of use to someone.x
  14. The link is http://www.midlandsassociates.yolasite.com/
  15. Is anyone auditioning on Saturday? Will be dd's first ever 'proper' audition. Good luck to everyone - fingers crossed. Think the literature said that they would get a response by end of June - eeek!!.
  16. Hi I know from speaking to Peter Parker that some children were unable to make the audition & some children are going to 1,2 or all 3 days of their summer school to audition instead. My dd is going to for a full day of one of the summer school classes & I have heard of others who are doing the same. Not sure how many they are taking or how long it will take for the reply. Peter seems really approachable - why don't you give him a call or send a quick email? If you hear anything please let us know - and fingers crossed for everyone auditioning/already auditioned. Just out of interest, how did the audition go? What were your thoughts?
  17. Thanks for that glowlight - that explains things!!!
  18. I know you lovely lot will be able to answer this for me .... What is the difference between footed tights and convertible/transition tights??? Until recently I've never seen the convertible tights & actually thought the girl had a hole in her tights Just pleased I didn't embarass myself by saying something!!!! Also, previously I have bought tights direct from dd dance teacher but have bought some online by Plume for an audition & they seem really thin in comparison. I'm guessing they'll be ok for audition purposes although can't see them lasting very long for regular classes.
  19. Hi sodor Who is the taster day available to? Could you give me a bit more info please with regards the cost/times/age etc if poss?
  20. Hi everyone I've just looked at Elmhursts website & was surprised to see that they've released the audition dates for entry for September 2013. How soon do we need to submit our application and do the other big schools release their dates around this time too? I somehow thought we wouldn't be applying until September!!! ETA: Oh, and Hammonds have been released too since I looked on Thursday!
  21. Thanks everyone. I always think it;s good to get everyones experience of something, particularly when it's something that is unfamiliar. Only been offered a private lesson once before & that's because we had moved house 70 miles away from the dance school, but the teacher still entered her for the exam provided she practiced for the 3 week gap & had a private lesson (which she didn't charge us for) beforehand. The teacher didn't go into any detail with regards to the purpose for them as she wants to wait until after she has had her auditions for associates, but I'm guessing it may be to iron out any bad habits & begin prep for the auditions for the 'big schools' this winter as many of her students are associates and go onto full time training at 11,14 or 16. It all does come down to the time of the lessons and money at the end of the day, so I will see what she has to say. smallbythesea
