  3. just humour me. could you let me know what the benefits of the above are please. dont ask!
  4. theballerinapointe- Thank you. Dd changed dance schools in september & now does 11 1/2 hours per week which includes MT, so at least she has the opportunity to explore different options. She also does a full day associate class once a month. Taxi - maybe we should set up a support group, lol. Are more being turned down due to an increase in numbers or less funding do we know? It is such a shame because these children put a lot of hard work (& us parents money) into them training to be dancers. Maybe I should persuade her to be a nurse At least that would be funded. Although I dont think the patients would appreciate her dancing down the ward like she does everywhere else. Next stop Hammond, so we shall see what happens there. All good experience though.
  5. Hi Hairbelles Dd has audition next month for Hammond. Am I right in thinking that they look at a dancer has an all-rounder though rather than classical ballet? Maybe, they will look for something different than Tring. I note the Hammond dance course now do more in the way of singing/drama but am I right in thinking theres not a musical theatre course from year 7? Any idea how many audition for these places & how many are accepted? Just want to put it into perspective for an 11 year old. I do remember the principal saying thought that if you get a yes, that you're in the top 5% of the country. smallbythesea
  6. Spannerandpony, did she audition anywhere else at the time?
  7. Letter has arrived today saying that they would like to offer dd a place on the theatre arts course for which there's no funding They thought she would be more suitable for that course than the dance course. Unfortunately, funds don't come anywhere near the fees so she won't be able to accept. Positive that someone has seen something in her though & she says herself, she's not bothered what she does, she just wants to dance! Audition next month at another schoo; so we shall see what happens there. smallbythesea

  13. DD is in panto for the first time & I found out that all the parents get their dc a small good luck gift related to the panto for opening night. I've found a website called stagepresents.co.uk & got her something small off there but wanted to get something else as well. Does anyone have any ideas for sleeping beauty? she is 11 by the way.
  14. Has anyone heard of/used these products www.arbonne.com ? My friend gave me some samples to try & I can't believe how lovely the products are. Admittedly, the products aren't cheap but they are premium products in line with creme de la mar. Just out of interest, how many people would use these products? Personally, I like the FC5 range.ALL products are botanical & free from nasties, aminal testing & animal by-products smallbythesea
  15. Hi We are in the same position. We were discussing secondary schools in March when dd said she wanted to go to vocational school. We hadn't realised how serious she was!! If you look back on my posts you'll probably be able to find it. Dh wasn't too happy at first either but after looking at all the information we have decided to let her audition & we have chosen 2 schools. Since this decision was made shes gone from dancing 2 hours once a week to 5 hours 3 times a week in april at 2 dance schools & as from this month she has transferred to the 2nd dance school & is doing 11 hours per week over 5 days plus associates class. We too have said that if she doesn't get in she has a great secondary school to go to, along with a fantastic dance school. I think it helps that the dance school she is now going to offers loads of classes & it is to a really good standard and the school puts posters up about auditions etc which the last dance school never did so she has more opportunities now.We have also discussed what she might do if she doesn't get in e.g auditioning for other associate classes etc & she seems happy that she has other options should it not work out. Off to the garden centre now to buy a money tree - if only!!!
  16. Audition dates for 2013 entry are now on their website!
  17. If anyone is having trouble getting hold of the leotard then please pm me. My local dancewear shop is ordering one for my dd the last week in August (delivery is next day) direct from Roch Valley.
  18. It's good news Peter is teaching at dds summer school this week & he handed me the letter at the end of the day. So proud & so pleased for her. She was beaming when she read the letter. She absoulutely loved the day she spent there & said when she came out she would love to be accepted. Looking forward to her starting next month as it's in a lovely location so I'm going to enjoy going once a month. smallbythesea.x
  19. Like the look of the Harpenden one but unfortunately too far for us!
  20. Yes, don't go completely. Us newbies need an experienced parent to learn from. Can't you stay just a little bit longer??? Or pop in now and again. Or not go at all? Surely this has become one of your hobbies by now?
  21. Fifty shades of grey trilogy finished this morning - luckily for my neighbour who can't get hold of the 3rd copy, so she has borrowed my dh kindle!!!! Back to the Lee Child book I was originally reading before I started 50 shades. Got quite a few on my bookshelf unread but might check out the summer book offers that seem to be on at every supermarket.
  22. Well done to your dd emloves2dance Thank you everyone for your kind messages. I always say things happen for a reason. Her 2nd dance teacher had a chat with her last night which I think helped. As everyone says, she will bounce back. x
