  1. Just to say how much I enjoyed your review, Jenny. I have never made it to La Scala but am planning a first trip to the Teatro La Fenice next year. So glad you had such a memorable visit.
  2. I will be howled down by the Polunin fan club, but why would anyone who can dance as sublimely as Sergei, want to spend his time on a film set where he does little more than sit in a mock-up train surrounded by stars all much more well-known than he is? Baffled.
  3. I would have thought that with such popular performances, ENB would have no need to go to Ticket Agencies. And, if they really feel they have to offer them some, then they should be on a non-returnable basis. I tried for months to get some and then got a couple of returns a few weeks back, but I have friends who have given up, and also two friends who have purchased, at extra expense, from a secondary ticketing agency. They need to sort this out as unless you are in London, it is unlikely you can make arrangements to attend at such short notice.
  4. This will be first time round for me to see Alice. Is Ed Watson the White Rabbit and which two roles is Steven Macrae dancing?
  5. Just wondering if anyone can comment on the Matthew Bourne version. Also, it seems a long time since ROH did Cinderella - any reason?
  6. Hayward was fabulous as Manon. She was with Edward Watson and I would love to see that partnership again. I was looking forward to Hayward/Sambe in Alice so a little disappointed but wishing Sarah and Marcelino a speedy recovery. They have both worked so hard this year.
  7. What a fascinating thread. Thank-you to everybody who has provided so much information which I have lapped up.
  8. It could only happen to Sergei! Interesting thought, though. I suppose there really is nothing to stop anyone doing something similar here.
  9. I can only say that without benefit of any particular knowlege, KOH more than earns his salary. He is doing an incredible job.
  10. There is a lovely picture of Princess Diana surrounded by dancers from ENB in today's copy
  11. Is it wise for a dancer to give six back to back performances, including two in one day or is Sergei not intending to be on stage very much? Amelia: I expect for £401.50 Mr. Polunin delivers the ticket himself concealed in a vat of popcorn!
  12. Seems a little unreasonable to expect ROH or RB to advertise locally in each of the locations that they have a cinema feed, particularly when they are out of the UK. Surely there is an opportunity for a local venue manager to start getting a mailing together and gradually build an audience - its certainly whats happened in my local cinema. When you go on their website they can tell you all the Arts events they will be showing for at least a year and I know that when they first began audiences were weak whereas now, a few years in, all the performances are over-subscribed.
  13. It would be interesting to know who is making the money. My local where I can see any film for £3.50 which is a bargain, or £4.50 for a 'lounge' seat, is now charging £15 for ballet and £18 for opera. Last year it was £7.50 for ballet and the performances are always overbooked with a waiting list. Don't begrudge RB the money but would just like to know who is collecting.
  14. What is also magnificent, Bruce, is your ability to bring those of us who didn't have tickets into the performance. From your descriptions I can totally imagine the spectacle that it must have been and thank you so much. I had tickets for tonight but the problems at Waterloo are pretty insurmountable so have surrendered them. You have certainly whetted my appetite for the future.
  15. Ooh, what a wonderful review. Thank-you for making me feel I was there. I saw it last time they were here and enjoyed it very much and am now wishing I had booked this time around. Sounds like a super evening.
  16. Okay, MAB. I will consider myself jumped all over for expressing an opinion which you disagree with. Clearly I know nothing about Greek Islands and even less about ballet. I thought this was a forum for all, not just the purists. Before bowing out, I will just comment that I have always been keen to learn and have acquired much valuable knowlege from those good enough to share it (thank-you Floss) with posters who admit they are amateurs. I will not apologise for saying I have been disappointed with The Marinsky because I have. Ballet and opera are one of my passions and I spend a disproportionate amount of my cash on indulging the habit. Because I live a long way away, any trip to ROH is expensive and fatiguing, hence expectation is high. With RB I have never yet been disappointed other than with Raven Girl. I don't enjoy Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker so I choose not to book for those ballets, but everything else is always pretty wonderful as far as I'm concerned. Prices for The Marinsky are sky high and I expect high standards which, in the main, (and as I made clear), I got. But the magic wasn't there. May I end by saying that all forums need new blood if they are to survive in to the future. The views of newcomers may sometimes be unwelcome but nurture works rather better than censure.
  17. That is really annoying. I booked especially to see Tereshkina. I have already seen Osmolkina. Why on earth did they bring Skorik if they knew she was injured? This tour is a disaster as far as I'm concerned. Does this mean that The Marinsky only brought three female Principal dancers for this tour?
  18. Anyone else getting strange emails offering the chance to 'View Russian Babes?' These have appeared in the wake of buying tickets for the Marinsky online!
