  1. Hello IBD23, I think one week is the younger group and one week the older group.
  2. Hello, It is normally the last two weeks in July and there is a class for 9-12 and 13-16. Hope that helps. It is very good and is non residential.
  3. I was at the Q and A on Friday. They definitely said that those who apply by DVD would have to attend the final and I cannot believe that they would have told anyone otherwise. A school would absolutely have to see, in person, a student they are taking on. The competition is clearly so fierce for the places, if a DVD would be enough to secure a place, everyone would be doing it. A student would have to be compared to the competition at the final. Regarding the vocational versus 2/3 classes a week of ballet, I think that there are always going to be some students that are taken on regardless of training, as they have the perfect feet, turnout, etc. but mostly at this stage they would be expecting some level of training. I know 2 students who were taken on last year and 2 the year before of the 30 intake. All vocationally trained. Interestingly on Friday, no one asked about the finance element of the course.
  4. Hello, my DD got finals for Elmhurst for upper school, which is great. Her friend also got finals. I just wanted to mention that there was also enclosed a form regarding finance, which asked about other siblings of school age and about wage brackets right up to £150k, so there is a vague hope that the funding may change and not be cut off at £70k for full fees!
  5. I just wanted to say that I placed an order last week with Dance Direct and it arrived promptly within 3 days.
  6. Morning, We have not received anything either. However, they are normally a bit lax, so it is no doubt fine. They are probably inundated! All of the other Upper Schools acknowledged immediately.
  7. My daughter got a pair a couple of years ago and they looked lovely, but she was told at Royal associates (cannot remember if it was MAs or SAs) that they were not to be worn!
  8. The SA and lower school audition are one joint audition, with a final for lower school if selected. however, there is also an audition for SAs only. the joint is on a Sunday, with four person panel and the SA only is a Tuesday evening with a two person panel. the SA only is very low key and would not recommend it.
  9. Hello, The form on the website is the one. It is the same form for Upper School/SA/MA/Lower school. And... just a bit of advice, do the joint audition for Lower School and SA, if auditioning, as it is much nicer than the stand alone SA audition. The joint is a Sunday, four person panel, with a lot more buzz. The SA audition on its own is a two person panel, very low key, Tuesday night, where they were almost waiting for us to leave after to close up.
  10. Always harder in years 8/9/10 but I think they always make space if they want someone! Quite a few from our school have got into WL at year 8/9/10 and even 11.
  11. sorry to confuse you all my daughter has been at yda since age 11 (year 7) and lalamum's daughter is year 10 as I understand it. Not ideal to move at year 11 but white lodge took yda students into year 10 and 11 last year.
  12. Hello, YDA is the best. My daughter has been there since 11 and is about to do her upper school auditions. Anna Du Boisson is the most amazing teacher and I can not recommend the school highly enough. It is never too late in the term to join. If your daughter auditions and is accepted, I am sure they would be accommodating. A boy joined from SAs this week. It has been perfect for my daughter, to attend vocational school and live at home. Also, she did her English GCSE a year early to take the pressure off of Year 11 and got an A. It is based in Shepherd's Bush and therefore close.
  13. Its her life.... was it all worth it though? Did you DC get into an upper school? With the actual cost of ENB and Elmhurst being £17k and £27k respectively if you earn over £70k, it makes you wonder if it is worth spending the money auditioning. My husband does earn over £70k, which sounds a lot, but with four children, there is not a spare £20k a year floating about!
  14. As I understand it, ENB does not offer A levels, but Royal and Elmhurst do and Central and Rambert are degree courses, with degree funding. And... following on from earlier, I assume that although students do get places in year 2 and 3 of upper schools, clearly places will be even harder to attain in these years than for first year.
  15. Also, I downloaded the central form and set it at a different font and it was much better.
  16. As I understand it there are three years in all the Upper Schools, Royal, ENB, Elmhurst, Central, etc. Central and Rambert particularly, as they are degree courses. Obviously some students do not get to third year, as they are assessed every year. Also, some students do audition and get accepted in second and third year. I know someone who was taken into third year at Elmhurst.
  17. Hello, I read somewhere that the fees for Elmhurst are £27,000 a year this year, which for those who earn over £70,000 is full fees, even with a DaDA! Let's face it even if you do earn over £70,000, you are paying 40% tax, so taking home £40k and clearly unable to afford £27k! Maybe that is why they did extra auditions in the summer to fill the places, with the rich students. After all who of us has £81k plus the travel, ballet wear, etc. spare over the next three years. Full fees at ENB were £17,000 this year. Central and Rambert will have everyone queing around the block for the bargain £9k degree loans! Scary times.
  18. The Freed soft blocks are very good and if they need to alter them slightly for your foot, they send them off for sewing, etc. and they are ready the next week.
  19. The odds do sound better then out of London. In London at the time, there were about 16 JAs in each year in the weekly class and a further 16 in the fortnightly class. The ones who had been in at year 4 had moved up to years 5 and 6 and maybe some were assessed out along the way and replaced. However, of my daughter's JA class 4 were taken into year 7 at White Lodge and one turned down the place, one went to Tring, one to Elmhurst and my daughter went to YDA. The others mostly continued with Associates and as the teacher said at the time, it is very much a pyramid, lots of JAs, fewer MAs and very few SAs. Anyway, good luck.
  20. YDA has just been awarded CDET - ' Recognised Dance Education and Training Status' by the Council for Dance Education. It is a fantastic school, run by Anna du Boisson and fellow brilliant teachers. I cannot recommend it highly enough. YDA yearly get between 2-5 students into White Lodge! Also, in the past two years the year 11s have gone to Royal, ENB, Elmhurst, Central, Laines, so the training is obviously working.
  21. Hello, From previous experience the no letter is very much, not this time and do audition next year, we look for musicality, flexibility, etc. I have not heard of a no thanks without that. As JAs is years 4/5/6, it is much easier to get in at year 4, than 5 or 6, as the year 4 class of approx. 16 are assessed and most move up into the next year. Therefore, there are often only 2/3 spaces in year 5/6, so tougher to get in. The same again at MA level (years 7/8/9) and SAs (years 10/11). Having said that my daughter did get a space in year 6 JAs, did not get MAs in year 7, waiting list in year 8. In MAs in year 9 and then SAs for years 10 and 11, so who knows! It is very hard to second guess Royal Ballet School! Good luck with it all.
  22. Hello, I did post on a different thread, but maybe this one is also relevant. YDA are auditioning in June (for September entry) for their associate programme. They are based in Shepherd's Bush at the new du Boisson studio and Anna teaches the students. They have two groups, which I believe are JA and MA ages and many go onto the Royal associate scheme.
  23. Hello, Just thought I would mention that YDA have an associate programme, which is great and taught by Anna du Boisson. It is on a Saturday afternoon at the new studio in Shepherd's Bush and the groups are the equivalent ages of JAs and MAs. They are auditioning in June and a lot of the YDA associates have gone on to the Royal associate programme. Well worth considering and brilliant to get a class with Anna.
  24. Hello, YDA are running a summer school this year. Not sure if there are places left, but I would imagine they take 9 year olds. It is w/c 22nd July and non residential, but very handy for Westfield while they are doing it! Definitely worth considering, the teachers are fantastic.
  25. I cannot recommend Bloch highly enough, the staff are brilliant and we have even been in there on occasion for an hour trying every shoe, until everyone was happy, the assistant included. We have tried Freed (where are not even bars or mirrors to rise up on pointe!, but you hold the hands of the assistant, all a bit shambolic), Dancia, etc. but really Bloch are second to none.
