  1. A few tickets are currently available for the MacMillan Insight on 13 Oct: http://www.roh.org.uk/insights/insights-the-legacy-of-macmillan
  2. I'm shocked by this casting decision for The Winter's Tale. For me Bennet Gartside and Marianela Nuñez together delivered the performance of a lifetime. Very moving to recall. I agree that Bennet Gartside transformed Wheeldon's work, giving exceptional clarity and insight to his finely drawn portrayal. Even if partnerships are changed, it is extremely sad that he is not to dance Leontes at all next season.
  3. Zenaida Yanowsky is one of four guest Principals listed on the updated Dancers page on the Royal Opera House website: http://www.roh.org.uk/about/the-royal-ballet/dancers
  4. A lovely Instagram post by Claire Calvert (this is a public account so I hope it is OK to post the link here).
  5. Post from QPAC's Instagram account showing the Royal Ballet dancers arriving at a post-show reception.
  6. Many apologies - this is a mystery to me. Earlier today I was able to access the article twice, but not now it seems. The article is a brief report within a general feature on culture. It stated that Queensland audiences had been stunned by Woolf Works, with some people regarding it as 'the single most significant cultural experience of their lives'. It then looked forward to The Winter's Tale and gave some facts and figures about the Royal Ballet tour, including that seven company Birthdays will be celebrated while away and that the youngest company member is Laurence Elliott.
  7. A brief report on the tour is included in this feature. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/culture-club-queensland-music-arts-and-theatre-news/news-story/d5dba7c048a19d669b6798e1210c9a4b
  8. Feature on 10 year old Scout Nicholas who will debut as Mamillius in The Winter's Tale, first cast. https://m.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/coast-dancer-10-centre-stage-with-the-royal-ballet/3196165/#/3
  9. A lovely feature on Rowena Jackson and Philip Chatfield, who will be guests of honour at a performance of The Winter's Tale later this week. https://amp.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/lifestyle/former-royal-ballet-dance-stars-perfect-partners-on-and-off-the-stage/news-story/a05c89f743d4429eb1d53fcf01886948

  11. Les Noces - corps patterns in final movement. MacMillan's Requiem - close of In Paradisum, but also many memorable visual elements throughout this work. Giselle raising Albrecht's arm as she returns him to life. Brandstrup's Ceremony of Innocence - a haunting visual exploration of the power of memory throughout this work. Royal Ballet Nutcracker - dance of the Snowflakes.
  12. I agree Jan! Hope they'll repeat it as I don't think I can do this one.
  13. 'Walking Tour: On with the Dance', a Bishopsgate Institute event at 2.30pm on Sun 9 July. You need to book in advance, £14 /£11. Link: http://www.bishopsgate.org.uk/course/3074/Walking-Tours---On-With-the-Dance?&Keyword=on+with+the+dance&Category=&TimeOfDay=&
  14. Sian Trenberth has posted a slideshow of photographs on YouTube. Hope it is OK to post this link here - please advise if not.
  15. Casting for the first two matinées of The Winter's Tale has changed again: Perdita, Florizel and Paulina are now A Takada, A Campbell and I Mendizabal for both performances. Cast information can be downloaded here: https://www.qpac.com.au/the-royal-ballet/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=the-royal-ballet&utm_content=retweetsteven
  16. In reply to LinMM, I hope that this will work: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10155404459122579&id=6597757578
  17. I presume that the exhibition has been curated by QPAC staff to complement the Royal Ballet's performances there. There are other Royal Ballet focused events at the venue, listed here: https://www.qpac.com.au/the-royal-ballet/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=the-royal-ballet&utm_content=retweetsteven Updated Royal Ballet cast information for their performances at QPAC is also downloadable from the link above.
  18. Apologies if slightly off-topic but I'm baffled by ROH logic with regard to use of the Character Artist title. On the RB staff page http://www.roh.org.uk/about/the-royal-ballet/staff Jonathan Howells and Philip Mosley are both listed as Character Artists (alongside their respective Royal Ballet staff roles), but they are not included in the list of artists on the RB Dancers' page. On the staff page (link above) Christopher Saunders and Gary Avis are listed in the context of their respective Senior Ballet Master/Ballet Master roles, with no mention of their Principal Character Artist status (although obviously this is shown if you click on their individual biography pages). They are listed of course as Principal Character Artists on the RB Dancers' page. There clearly must be an inhouse reason for these listings, but they seem odd to me as an outsider! Maybe it's simply to do with internal budget arrangements determining who is listed where. But it still seems odd to me that people who are officially listed as Character Artists do not appear on the Dancers' page, implying that they are not company members as artists despite still performing character roles (frequently so in the case of Jonathan Howells).
  19. I've started a new topic as the other one is focused on casting. QPAC's YouTube channel has several film clips re: Royal Ballet events. This one gives an overview of their Made on the Body choreography exhibition.
  20. An updated cast list is downloadable from this page: https://www.qpac.com.au/event/rnb_woolf_works_17/

    Lynn RIP

An incredibly moving post. Thank you JohnS for sharing this beautiful tribute and so many lovely memories of your dear wife Lynn. I am so sorry for the enormity of your loss. I hope that ballet, music and revisiting your special places will all help in giving comfort at this time.

    Lynn RIP

For JohnS - I am so very sorry to read of the loss of your dear wife. My sympathies to you and your family.
  23. Some information about the Symphonic Variations cast is given in this Instagram (public) post by the photographer Dolly Brown: https://www.instagram.com/p/BUwAFgIgtZl/
  24. Symphonic Dances seemed to me to be focused more on the passage of time than on views of gender roles. The dominant theme seemed the passing of power and creativity from one generation to the next. The work appears to suggest the passing of decades through parts of a century, symbolised in part by images from dance history, Fuller through to McGregor. Seen from above, the second movement's reflected image of the whirling warriors' skirts suggested WWI poppies. The third movement's final 'squashing' moment evoked Gloria and seemed to be a farewell to an epoch, a century on, as a new generation flees to an unknown future. I've not read the programme notes and have no idea what Scarlett intends. This is just a personal response to some of the powerful choreographic images created here. But I'm sad that I missed the alternative 'triumphant' squashing!
