  1. This appeared on YouTube yesterday: To the Moderators - I hope it is OK to post a YouTube link here. Please advise if not. Thank you.
  2. The Telegraph's list claims to cover 'all time' but omits anyone pre-1900. It also seems too biased towards the memories of London audiences.
  3. Lady MacMillan, Clement Crisp and Donald MacLeary will be participating in this event. Tickets are £20. http://www.ljcc.org.uk/events/3405-i-ivy-house-music-and-dance-i-br-lady-macmillan-with-clement-crisp-br-romeo-and-juliet-ballet-masterclass-br-with-donald-macleary.html
  4. Subjects of a short ballet season on BBC2 and BBC4 from 1 March will include Margot Fonteyn and Michael Somes in The Sleeping Beauty, Tamara Rojo preparing for Odette/Odile and the development of the Sadler's Wells Company during World War Two: http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-26170015
  5. ROH website now shows full casting for Sweet Violets: http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/sweet-violets-by-liam-scarlett
  6. Thanks so much for posting this information, Janet. Yes - I'm London based and already have my tickets for the mixed bill at the Linbury. So looking forward to this! Leeds in June is unlikely at the moment, but not impossible. I am tempted!
  7. Thank you Janet! I wasn't sure which forum to choose, as sadly I did not see the performance myself. I've found the images in this blog very compelling. You are very lucky to have seen both the Hepworth exhibition and the NB rehearsal. I do hope for future performances of this work as I would love to see it.
  8. This work was created last year on Northern Ballet dancers by Kenneth Tindall in collaboration with the artist Linder. A performance took place yesterday at Tate St Ives. There are some wonderful glimpses of the work in this blog by Linder in association with Tate St Ives: http://iamthelandscape.tumblr.com/ To the moderators: I hope it is OK to post a blog link here. Please advise if not.
  9. I am posting this link here as it's not strictly dance news. The work was made in London in 1919, for the Ballets Russes. A very sad prospect if it cannot be saved. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/02/04/business/at-four-seasons-picasso-tapestry-hangs-on-the-edge-of-eviction.html?referrer=
  10. In reply to chrischris and Alison, Thiago Soares was in Raven Girl.
  11. In a 'ballet battles' feature in the Guardian today, Vanessa Thorpe states that Vadim Muntagirov will be dancing in Romeo and Juliet at the RAH. I'm still not convinced.
  12. This film features Marianela Nunez in The Dying Swan: http://madamandthedyingswan.com/about.php
  13. Like Janet McNulty my first Giselle was Mary Skeaping's LFB production, seen in childhood. The principals were Dagmar Kessler & Peter Schaufuss. It was a very long time ago! For me, ballet addiction did not take hold until at least 25 years later, but I've always treasured my memory of this performance. The visual impact of Skeaping's staging was very powerful & made a huge impression on me.
  14. These performances are now listed on ROH website. Booking opens on 8 April.
  15. http://dancehe.org.uk/archives/771 I've just seen this link on twitter. It gives information about this new publication.
  16. I agree with Timmie and Janet McNulty. Emeralds and Serenade are amongst my very favourite dance-works, and both evoke aspects of Giselle (greatest ballet of all for me).
  17. I share the teapot memory! I think it was in the London Festival Ballet Nutcracker, which I saw a couple of times in childhood. Sadly I remember very little of the producton, apart from this image of a huge willow pattern teapot in the Chinese dance. I think one of the dancers had to lift the lid and jump out!
  18. I've now been prompted twice to buy a 'digital guide' to Giselle at £2.99. This appears to consist of a synopsis plus contextual features, i.e. the type of information which was available for free on at least one version of the old website! Does anyone know if such guides are planned for all ROH productions in time?
  19. It's very useful to have biography pages for all dancers. However, the content of these pages seems very inconsistent, with e.g. just an occasional link to a Ballet Association interview, and links to twitter profiles for only about a third of the RB dancers who have them. Perhaps it is simply a work in progress, or perhaps individual dancers need to give consent for the inclusion of such links.
  20. Ivy House has just tweeted news of this event, which features Dame Antoinette Sibley, Clement Crisp and Royal Ballet dancers: http://www.ljcc.org.uk/events/3145-i-ivy-house-music-and-dance-i-br-dame-antoinette-sibley-with-clement-crisp-br-an-afternoon-at-the-royal-ballet-school.html
  21. ROH Box Office now displays notices stating that ticket returns and exchanges are deemed valid by ROH only if handled by the Box Office. On two occasions in the past I have sold returned tickets to someone waiting in the queue. I would not do this again now. Apologies if this should now be in a separate thread.
  22. Exhibition on 28 Oct, pre-booking required: http://pilot-rad.org.uk/more/library/about-the-library/library-news
  23. Suzanne Farrell will feature in this Radio 4 series in November: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/proginfo/2013/45/r4-behind-the-looking-glass-thur.html
