  1. Yes Tring ! It's not all doom and gloom ! He won't get into Oxford or Cambridge either ! Lol ! We will be patient and wait ! It's tough but I've been here before with Dd and the disappointment ! It all turns out as it should in the end ! Good luck to your Dd x hope you don't have to wait too long x
  2. It's reserve list for a DaDa for my Ds ! Onwards and upwards ????
  3. When Dd did Elmhurst year 7 finals there were approx 37 girls ! 3 groups ! 2 with year 7's and one with 7 and older in ! All alphabetically arranged ! The WL offers had come out the week before but there were girls at Elmhurst finals who had accepted places at WL ! They offered 13 places that year ! The number varies year on year. Good luck to all those attending next week ! My Ds has finals on Thursday ???? can't believe we are putting ourselves through this again !
  4. Chaperone, we were at the boys funding audition in the morning and were told to give them up to two weeks but hopefully it would be sooner ????
  5. Hi, we were in exactly the same position as you 4 years ago ! Dd only did one ballet class a week and her teacher suggested she audition for RBS and Elmhurst Associates ! We had tears also after the audition ! But she was offered both ! We knew nothing about this world and sort of got swept along with auditions for full time training not really knowing what was involved ! Some children had been doing the associate classes for 3 years and were well prepared for it all ! Dd is now in her 3 rd year of vocational training ! It's tough but she wouldn't change it for the world ! Other parents and forums are a great source of information and support ! I'm pleased our associate journey was short as this gave Dd an opportunity for other sports and hobbies before she gave it all up for ballet ! I don't know anything about the Hammond but can help with audition info etc ! Now doing 6th form ones with Ds ! Another experience ! Lol ! Good luck to your little dd ! Just enjoy the ride ????
  6. Ds 's school offer GCSE dance over 2 years and one year as well as A level dance ! On Thursday evening I sat through a sharing of work that was 60 dances long ! Ds gets told constantly that he is too balletic but has really enjoyed the variety of dance offered ! Older Ds has done gcse and A level PE ! Apart from ballet being his chosen sport ! There is no dance in it at all ! Although some PE teachers feel themselves qualified enough to grade his ballet performance pieces !
  7. Our experience is quite the opposite ! Dd did one ballet class a week until she was 10 and would not be at vocational school if it wasn't for her dance teacher firstly pointing out to us that she wasn't bad at ballet and encouraging us to audition her for associate classes, at year 6 entry, and then supporting us all through the audition process ! My Ds, also her pupil, has finals for his 2 favourite 6th forms. He has only been doing ballet for 4 years ! I wouldn't have ever known about the ballet world if it wasn't for her help. The dance school has many pupils in associate schemes and there are children who also do classes with other dance schools if the classes they want are not available or the timings aren't right ! IMO it is difficult for teachers to show recognition of achievements without it being interpreted as favouritism by some ! Most parents and pupils will celebrate and enjoy the children's successes others will never speak to you again ! They are no loss !
  8. now I've posed it twice ! Lol ! Need more wine ????
  9. Being a novice ballet mum Dd has just explained to me the difference between a releve, bringing the foot underneath her, and a strong rise, transferring the weight onto the supporting leg. ????On pointe you have to releve into a pirouette, but on Demi pointe to avoid snatching, possibly throwing yourself off balance, and to do multiple pirouettes a strong rise into it is more effective. I wouldn't usually comment on a technical question but I thought we might be helpful ! Lol ! Oops ! Think I need to stick to the other threads ????
  10. Dd says you don't releve into a pirouette you do a strong rise, transferring weight onto the supporting leg. And snatching can cause you to throw your weight back so putting you off balance. This is probably why you are only managing singles.
  11. It depends on what group you are in Happymum ! When my dd did finals there were 3 groups and each rotated and did a ballet class, a physio assessment, non verbal reasoning test and a tour of the boarding accommodation. Good luck x
  12. Sorry Snowflake imo it gets harder ! You go through all the stress of auditions to get them in and then it's the stress of keeping them in ! I've got one trying to stay in and one trying to get in at the moment ! I must admit I feel less anxious about 6 th form auditions than year 7 ones !
  13. Perhaps there are more applicants this year due to them emailing everyone who has ever had contact with the school and reminding them to apply ! Lol !
  14. At Dd's school the MDS is calculated on the April 2014 to March 2015 wage slips for september 2015 start ! Those who are self employed etc submit an estimate and can confirm figures later in the financial year !
  15. For September 2015 start I thought it was based on April 2014 to March 2015 ! The MDS is calculated on this ! I may be wrong !
  16. It's a real shame that accomadation isn't included in the DaDa scheme as with the MDS ! It would make it more affordable for alot of families !
  17. ???? with a DADa I was looking at approx £14,000 per year ! Including school fees and accomadation ! It's just gone down to approx £9,000 ! A bit more affordable ! Fab news to get whilst I am sat in my car outside a 6th form audition wondering how we were ever going to pay for it if he was successful ! Lol ! Still a worry though !
  18. ???????????????? found it ! Off to increase my hours at work !!!
  19. Help ! I can't get the link to work and it hasn't been updated in the DaDa website ????
  20. I compare the earnings of a ballet dancer to that of a registered nurse ! The bandings of pay are very similar ! I'm a staff nurse / artist and my husband is a Matron / principal ! Lol !
  21. WL and MAs is the next day ?? Doesn't make sense ! I would ring them to confirm your dd is in the correct audition !
