Melody
I suppose it wasn't surprising news, but no less sad anyway. It was nice to see so many dancers and choreographers over at Twitter saying what an inspiration she'd been to them. Obviously a life well lived. John Mallinson
Letter online in today's Telegraph: Ballet graduates SIR – All of us in the Royal Ballet are very saddened at the news of the death of the director of the Royal Ballet School, Gailene Stock. It was disappointing to read that “only a handful” of Royal Ballet School graduates were offered contracts by the Royal Ballet and the Birmingham Royal Ballet during her time as director. Since 2009, 79 per cent of the dancers to have joined the Royal Ballet have been graduates of the Royal Ballet School. This is a fitting validation of her inspired leadership during her tenure as director. Ian Macmillan
From Twitter within the last hour: @TheRoyalBallet: Tonight's performance of #ROHtale will be dedicated to the memory of @RoyalBalletSch director Gailene Stock. ^C (For those unfamiliar with Twitter-speak, "#ROH Tale" refers to The Winter's Tale.) Nina G.
The Royal Ballet message states that tonight's performance of "The Winter's Tale" is full of Ms. Gailene Stock's former students. Would be an interesting fact to know just how many.
