Ja Sm Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I am trying to decide which to see, I can'tmanage both sadly. English National's "le Corsaire" or Rambert's programme of Ashley Page, Barak Marshall, Nijinsky and Mark Baldwin. I will be taking my daughters aged 13 and 15. The only piece I am familiar with is Nijinsky's L'apres Midi d'un faune. Any advice or views would be appreciated.
taxi4ballet Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 My daughter is 14 and I would probably be more inclined to take her to see Le Corsaire. 1
Jan McNulty Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 It depends - do they prefer ballet or contemporary? If they would prefer a tutu-style ballet then Le Corsaire. My niece preferred Rambert (when she was around 14) to any of the ballet I took her to but now just goes to see Propeller Theatre with me! 1
Ja Sm Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Not sure really. We haven't seen a great deal relatively. a couple of Mattew Bournes, a traditional Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet. That kind of thing. Both are keen to watch different styles, although youngest is more of a classical girl, pointe shoes and tutus. I like exciting, physical choreography. I think I might lean towards English National. The programme particularly mentions the male parts. Are there some good female dances as well? I can always rely on ballet co-ers to help me out xx
Lisa O`Brien Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 If you go to see the Rambert, bear in mind that you might always in the future be able to buy the Le Corsaire on DVD. I know it`s not quite the same as actually being there, but at least that way you will get to see both.!
Anna C Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 ...but not performed by ENB - they don't release any of their performances on DVD.
LinMM Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I can't wait for their Corsaire I think it will be very exciting!
Ja Sm Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Tickets booked for November. Very excited. 3
LinMM Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 There are some terrific casts for this ballet I really don't know which one to pick!! Would like to see Golding as he's not here that much but so many others to choose from too!!
Ja Sm Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 I know so few of the names to look out for in the different companies, as I am a fairly new ballet watching fan. How will I find out which cast I will see?
Bluebird Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) I know so few of the names to look out for in the different companies, as I am a fairly new ballet watching fan. How will I find out which cast I will see? Here's the link to the casting: http://www.ballet.org.uk/whats-on/lecorsaire/ Edited to paste in casting as link didn't go directly to casting (I'm aware we have this elsewhere in the forum but thought it would help Ja Sm to have it here). Shmendrick Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I really want them to announce Manchester casting!
Ja Sm Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 I wonder when they announce the matinee castings....
Jan McNulty Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Bluebird has listed all the castings available, including the matinees. We seem to be just waiting for the Manchester castings now.
Bluebird Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) Some matinée castings have been announced but there are a number (mainly in Oxford and Bristol) which are TBC. I've been hoping that this might mean that some of the younger dancers are learning the roles and that they're waiting to see how they get on. edited for typo Edited August 27, 2013 by Bluebird
Jan McNulty Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Sorry Bluebird - I thought TBC was the new dancer!

In which case it'll presumably be a little while yet, if they've only gone back to work today.
Jan McNulty Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 New dancer? Sorry - it was a pathetic attempt at a joke.
Ja Sm Posted December 1, 2013 Author Posted December 1, 2013 Well we have been to see this now and it was absolutely fantastic! The dancing and sets were amazing. My only criticism perhaps was that I would rather not have watched the final scenes through an obscuring curtain...not sure why they did that? My daughters loved it too, so it was definitely an excellent recommendation. An all round wonderful day. Thank you fellow ballet lovers. 5
