  1. I too was going to recommend the London Transport museum for those of you with siblings. Only problem is it closes at 6pm so for those with dc in the later group at 5.15, you'd have to hurry along straight away as you'd only have about an hour.
  2. My dd is also doing it, in the Gold group at 5.15pm. There will be loads of coffee bars & restaurants open around Covent Garden.
  3. taxi4ballet - there is more than one Royal Ballet facebook page. Maybe you are on the wrong one. However, the I can get into the new official one, yet my dd can't get access. Doesn't even appear when she searchs for it. I queried with the RBS & they said it was because of their child protection restrictions.
  4. What day are the tickets for Sheila? My dd are planning on going tomorrow (Sun) but haven't bought tickets yet. Would absolutely love them if still available. By the way, dd loved tutu skirt, but we're having trouble trying to make it stay 'down'. Keeps flipping upwards if you know what I mean. Ideas? Anyway, will come & see you on Sun.
  5. There's a Rambert thread on page 2 http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/5145-rambert-auditions/
  6. Does anyone here on the forum have experience of parking at Olympia for Move It. When my dd and I have been in the past we have always travelled by train, but this year am thinking of driving for various reasons. I know where the car parks are etc, but just wondering whether it is essential to pre-book the car (but it will cost a lot more this way as you have to pay for the day) or to chance just getting a space when we arrive and then pay for however long we are there. Has anyone on here driven before? Many thanks
  7. Hold on in there stressedmum. There will be a lot of movement with places over the coming weeks. Most other schools haven't even had their finals yet, let alone offer out places so some of the students offered Dadas at Tring will get offers elsewhere and then turn their place down at Tring. It is exceptionally early days. Last year people were still accepting/declining places right through til end of April. Take Central for example, their final isn't even til end of March. Last year, there were definitely students who got Dada places at Tring from the reserve list. So keep hanging in there.
  8. Thanks Melody, LinMM & Sheila. I must be losing the plot as now I've looked again it's obvious. Previously I had scrolled down to bottom of page & hadn't noticed there were 2 further pages! Might give Sheila a call later today.
  9. Just Ballet - I was looking for your pancake practice tutu skirts on your website but can't seem to find them! Can you send me a link or let me have further info. Are they suitable for competition purposes?
  10. Don't have any personal experience of it, but London Studio Centre are also offering a summer contemporary course.
  11. Good luck everyone for the Dada audition on Tuesday.
  12. Yes, all lower sixth girls board onsite in New Block (boys in Clockhouse) unless of course they are day pupils or staying with a host family. The upper sixth stay in either a house owned by the school at the bottom of Mansion Drive, one of two other houses located approx 20 mins walk from the school, or a small number remain residing in New Block. In New Block, I believe there are 5 quad rooms, a couple of triple rooms and quite a lot of twin rooms (not sure exactly how many though). The third years of the sixth form are regarded as day pupils & have to find their own accommodation.
  13. Tomuchtalent - I would certainly try ringing them. Although it's half term, I do know that one of the members of office staff is in nxt week.
  14. Boarding is all onsite for the lower sixth at Tring. They stay in a boarding house called New Block. There are lots of twin rooms, a couple of triple rooms and five quad rooms. So a lot of the girls therefore share with several girls rather than just one. There are Housemothers who live onsite to look after them. In the upper sixth, they are then divided up. Some live off site in two boarding houses approx 20 mins walk away, some in a boarding house just down the bottom of the lane leading up to the school & a handful stay living in New Block. Wherever they are, they still have a houseparent though. It's then in their final third year that the students find their own accommodation, ie flats etc & are regarded as day pupils. As stated in the above post however, some students can opt to stay with host families in Tring. This is certainly cheaper, as yes the boarding costs for Tring are just on £4,000 per term.
  15. My dd said the Central prelim & final auditions were really crowded like that last year too. Many girls were pushed right up to one end. We thought it was because so many more people were auditioning because of the change in the Dada system & thought they would have added an extra date this year.
  16. Remember though, prior to last year the Dada funding was different & wasn't means tested. Last year was when they first brought in the means testing so each student now qualifies for a different level of funding. We were told it's so much harder & complicated for them to work out now.

  18. Last year this was all explained at the Dada audition.
  19. As far as I'm aware , the way it works is they don't have a specific number as such. They just have a pot of money provided by the Government. They then put the students in the order they want to offer out funding and depending on how much each student requires (ie based on their individual income bracket) depends on how far the school can then go down the list offering out funding.
  20. My gp didn't charge me anything for a basic letter confirming dd's fitness to dance last year, but did charge £25 for a full comprehensive medical - which we had to do when invited for ENBS finals.
  21. Rambert sent their results out by email last year, but to the student, not the parent! I didn't actually agree with this because your dc could well receive a rejection email whilst at school .... maybe even when about to go into an exam!
  22. I can sympathize with you all ..... this time last year I spent a small fortune on my credit card on hotel accommodation & travel costs for auditions. If I count all the auditions we had to have a hotel stay for, plus then any further finals/Dada auditions, it came to 9 hotel bookings!! A lot of it I found was down to bad luck if you got an early morning time slot. I'm afraid it doesn't get any easier though once they get in somewhere. On top of any fees to pay (as even with a FULL Dada there will still be accommodation to pay for), the initial outlay to get your dc set up with everything is horrendous. Then of course there's the monthly medical insurance premium, the ongoing cost of pointe shoes (as Tulip said, they need new ones approx every 4 weeks due to the amount of pointe work), other items of dancewear needed as time goes on, travel costs when they travel back & forth home for exeat weekends & holidays, any costs for trips the school may organise, & so on. It certainly is a huge commitment financially.
