  2. This is a new forum to make it easier to post or find items for sale or wanted, along the lines of the Ticket Trade forum. I have transferred the previous Dancewear To Buy or Sell thread here but members may wish to repost their for sales or wanteds in this new forum so they can be more easily seen - there were 14 different items jumbled up in that previous thread!
  3. Notes on buying and selling This forum is for ordinary members to buy and sell dance-related items: it is not to be used as a shopfront by commercial vendors. Ticket trade is elsewhere. The specification and condition of any items put up for sale should be properly described and imperfections or signs of use noted so that buyers know what they are getting. Auctions are not permitted. The arrangements for paying for and sending items are your responsibility. BalletcoForum does not act as an intermediary. Mutual trust over transactions is essential but members may feel safer sending items by Recorded Signed For delivery which provides proof of posting and confirmation of delivery. Should problems such as non-payment or non-receipt of goods arise and if things cannot be amicably settled then BalletcoForum administration may have to intervene. Abusers will be banned from the forum.

  5. Well, Bournonville isn't MacMillan! and there always is a lot of narrative action in his ballets. I agree that the ascent to sylph heaven looks clumsy. (I assume it was in the original scenario, so is always done.) I think she is missing a baby sylph (sylphette?) at her head and feet. In the current revival, as Clement Crisp commented, she looks like "air-mailed laundry" which I am sure is not the intended effect.

  7. ROH marketing needs to have a big rethink. Louise Levene in today's Telegraph comments (about Sylphide): Despite such superlative casting, the lower house had a shocking number of empty seats on both Monday and Tuesday. If marketing a masterpiece is beyond the wit of the Opera House, they could at least try mass-texting their target audience (or even local office workers) with some last-minute deals.

  10. Slava Samodurov was previously a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet (and before that with the Mariinsky) who left a couple of years ago. At the beginning of this year he took up the post of artistic director of the Ekaterinburg Ballet and Amore Buffo, his first choreographic work for them, and in fact his first full-length ballet, has just been staged. Here's a gallery of photos of the theatre and the production.
  11. Yes, very derogatory, very silly. In dance it's anything created in Europe that doesn't appeal to some sort of prissy British sensibility.
  12. Do we know when this was recorded or have any details of casting?
  13. Balanchine's Ballo della regina was first performed by the Royal Ballet in 2011, staged by Merrill Ashley on whom it was created. Johan Kobborg staged Bournonville's La Sylphide in 2005. In this revival the principal couples are Alina Cojocaru & Steven McRae, Tamara Rojo & Dawid Trzensimiech, Roberta Marquez & Steven McRae, Sarah Lamb & Johan Kobborg, Alina Cojocaru & Johan Kobborg, Sarah Lamb & Dawid Trzensimiech. 14. They're performing in NY currently and there was a good and relevant preview piece in the NY Times last week. Sounds like a company that Luke Jennings might approve of!
  15. That's a really crummy way of displaying the casting. This site has a very long way to go.
  16. I guess it's the final collapse of copyright on the web. Most (but not all) of the pages that I've looked at are full of uncredited photos presumably 'borrowed' from other sites where they may or may not have been posted with the author's permission. I suppose this is an unstoppable tide but it seems sad that so little credit is usually given to the original photographers.
  17. And, I should add, after dancing Sylphide in London on Monday she goes back to New York to appear as Nikiya on Thursday.
  18. Should be Monday's cast i.e. Nunez/Kish, Cojocaru/McRae.

  20. Very glad to hear this from a new survey! More.
  21. Looking again at the Amphi problem (not being able to see the whole plan without panning around) I realised of course that if you click the black button with the little corner symbols at the top right it expands the display to the full size of the window so you can indeed see the whole thing. One should always click everything in sight to see what happens!
