  1. …and it seems extraordinary that a company sitting (apparently) on such shifting legal sands can be valued at $7.7 billion dollars.
  2. Though her Marguerite without her erstwhile Armand wouldn't be the same.

  6. There's a scary article here in the US Business Insider website exploring the legal side of posting on Pinterest without specific authorisation from the copyright owner. There seem to be big issues here which will no doubt be resolved eventually, meanwhile…

  10. Yes, NYT links via Google for instance seem to bypass their restrictions. If you run into their paywall barrier then google the title of the article and you should get it. I don't think this is a state secret!
  11. No, it was Niels Kehlet. One for the cognoscenti I think - that doesn't mean me!

  13. Sir Kenneth MacMillan's The Prince of the Pagodas was first performed by The Royal Ballet in 1989 with Darcey Bussell, Fiona Chadwick and Jonathan Cope as the principal dancers. It has not been on stage since 1996. The opening night curtain call: Many thanks to the ROH for allowing Dave Morgan to take curtain call photos on the first night of this important revival. 15. Ann, there are an awful lot of programmes in the Desert Island Disks archive here. All have details but not all have the recording. Fonteyn is there but hasn't, Ashton is there and has.

  17. Well, I've just 'liked' all of the above which makes four with no complaint from the software.
  18. What a shame that we'll never see him dance in London again. He made such an impression on their last visit in 2005.

  20. Yes, just announced, the 21st is now the Lamb, Morera, Bonelli cast.
  21. I agree. The way the page is laid out makes it seem as if they're not interested in my fiver, as it were. A suggested minimum is ok but at least it should also say something like "any amount, however small, is of great help". And what if I want to send cash or a cheque? As Norman S points out Michael Lynch "just states the bleeding obvious" but the bleeding obvious is often lost sight of and needs to be reiterated, and often. I was horrified, but in retrospect not surprised, at the gulf that seemed to exist between management and the dancers. (I suppose this exists in almost all bureaucracies.) The scene at the Sadler's Wells post-show reception where the discomforted dancers were treated like wallflowers and made to eat by themselves was demeaning and terrible.

  23. You've got me there! If you've run into a limit then it sounds as if there might be a setting for this but I can't find one. Looks like you'll have to spread your enthusiasm a bit thinner! Has anyone else encountered this?
  24. No cuckoos in Camberwell but we do have a blackbird nesting outside our kitchen window. When she goes off for a break her guy sometimes comes and stands guard on the edge of the nest though he never deigns to sit in it.
  25. Well we can thank Christopher Hampson for tweeting about the Queen-Empress. You're right. Tamara Rojo has been on record several times expressing her reluctance to get involved in running a company in Spain in the absence of funding through some Arts Council like organisation, independent of government, national or local. These events with Barcelona Ballet seem to be proving her judgment a sensible one. It'll be a terrible shame and a national humiliation if the company collapses.
