  1. Considering that she is and always will be the company's Assoluta, and the immense part she played in establishing it as one of the world's best, I am astonished that there wasn't even a mention of her centenary. A revival of Ondine perhaps? Nothing. Unless they are planning a tribute evening that we haven't been told about? I doubt it somehow. I don't understand why they are celebrating Bernstein's centenary but not Fonteyn's. He had nothing to do with the company whilst she, to a great degree, created it and its English style. Gggrrrr.
  2. McGregor has now been Choreographer in Residence for 13 years...maybe time for a change? It doesn't mean he still can't choreograph for the RB, but maybe not so frequently.
  3. Or Dolly Parton who, when asked how long it takes to do her hair in the morning, said "I don't know, I ain't ever there" !!
  4. Me too. Keeping everything crossed that at least one, and preferably both, of these pairings happen!!
  5. You and me both, Mary. She is one of the best, IMHO, and doing it with Bonelli would just be the icing on the ballet cake of the month.
  6. Agree with Anna. A wonderful way to end the run. Everyone danced beautifully, but it was Tierney Heap who particularly impressed me with her dramatic and emotional interpretation of Paulina.
  7. Maybe the end is downbeat because, amongst the joy of reunion, we need to remember that Hermione and Leontes lost their young son.
  8. Lovely post, Douglas. Who would you consider as the other two greatest male dancers of the 20th century?
  9. I agree, which is one of the reasons I would LOVE to see Shklyarov guest in this.....I think there are more possibilities in the lower ranks than in the principal one at the moment, but not sure how many are ready for this one next season.
  10. Or, Osipova with special guest Shklyarov.....he is a sensational Solor (just as I am sure Vadim will be!).
  11. The Morera/Bonelli partnership in this ballet was astonishing, and just as worthy, IMHO, as Osipova/Watson for recording.....oh dear, choices, choices!! I wish we could have them both!
  12. Indeed not! I did see it three times, with different casts, just to make sure, but I'm afraid it just didn't float my boat. As a matter of fact, I felt as if I were sinking further down the longer it went on. Yes there were a couple of good pdd, but that isn't enough to make me spend any money seeing it again. I'm glad there are enough people who want to see it again to make it worth reviving; it must have cost a bomb to produce!
  13. I would give it another chance if someone told me it had been completely re-choreographed....
  14. I hope that the good thing about the long R&J run is not only that we can get to see the "junior" principals and first soloists get more than one show each, but also that we can see some new Juliets.....O'Sullivan? Magri? Gasparini? Just my wish list....
  15. Yes, that is a late start to the season, all because of the Ring Cycle??? So we will have four full months with no RB, no visit from one of the Russian companies and not much else happening visit-wise? Aaarrggghhh! Will have to start saving my pennies now so that I can perhaps go to Paris or another European city to catch some classical ballet....
  16. Am pretty happy with next season, although very disappointed not to have Onegin. How long will we have to wait?! Am quite surprised that they are not showing the new Swan Lake again. Am particularly happy with all of the below, with the exception of Frankenstein. I can't believe they are reviving it, but I guess that once again mine is a voice in the wilderness! Is it Acosta's DonQ that is being presented? Just wondering as they say 'from the 19th century'. Can't wait to see the Ashton ballets. I will definitely be skipping Nutcracker as I really want to see something else at Christmas! The Season will feature a number of revivals from the 19th century including: La Bayadère, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and the 20th century, including: The Firebird, Fredrick Ashton's Les Patineurs, The Two Pigeons, A Month in the Country, Kenneth MacMillan's Winter Dreams, Mayerling, and Romeo and Juliet, Jerome Robbins's The Concert and George Balanchine's Symphony in C. Modern day revivals in the 2018/19 Season include Asphodel Meadows and Frankenstein by Liam Scarlett, Within the Golden Hour by Christopher Wheeldon, with new design by Jasper Conran, Infra by Wayne McGregor, and Flight Pattern by Crystal Pite.
  17. OH dear.....way too young. I am so pleased I saw him dance several times, especially his career-defining Prince in Swan Lake. RIP Scott.
