  1. Oh my, this forum is such an education! I know nothing about hardening pointe shoes but I do know that Johnsons Klear used to be used by soldiers as a shortcut to super shiny 'bulled' boots. How do people dicover these alternative uses....?
  2. This was my first time seeing BRBand the only ones Ive seen before are the big family classics with dd. I really did not know what to expect from Lyric pieces or Pineapple Poll. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. Lyric pieces was stunning, I particularlyenjoyed Jenna Robarts and Iain Mackay in the phantom duet. Yvette knight also caught my eye and dd was in awe of the Momoko Hirata/tzu-chao Chou partnership in the Don Q pdd! Altogether a lovely evening and well worth the ticket price
  3. Well, with sats all finished I decided to take dd and not worry too much about a rare late night. So glad we went. I only booked last night and i think there were plenty of tickets still available for both matinee and evening tomorrow. I hardly know where to start but we both loved it, its late now so all i will say is if you can make it, go. will try and make more sense tomorrow
  4. Thank you Janet, decided to go, you have to take opportunity when it arises
  5. hhmm, ok so I have read all the great advise on the forum, watched the videos on youtube, read leaflets, so why am I so nervous........Sewing ribbons on first pair of pointe shoes!
  6. sorry about the abrupt nature of my reply, i was trying to reply quickly as I should have been out the door to collect dd from class. Good luck for both audition and Oliver for your dd
  7. I was really fancying going to this tomorrow bit havent found anyonewho wants to go with me, not sure i fancy the hour and a quater drive home on my own. Is it 1) worth a not too pleasant journey home 2) suitable for 11yr old dd?
  8. For finals earlier this year dd was in geoup 2. registration was at 9:45 physio till12: break then ballet class till 2:30 tour of school 2:30 till 3:45 Guess you could skip the last bit x
  9. me too, Angel, but had to explain it to hubby!
  10. I will definitely be having a good cry too, getting slightly nervous about it already!
  11. I wish someone had told me, when dd got into JAs that the national skirt i spent hours over the summer hols lovingly sewing, wasnt going to be worn till the following summer term and would therefore need to be let down and rehemmed before it ever got used! plus all of the above!
  12. BillyElliott do you mean 18 beds altogether or 18 for boys and a similar number for girls? Would it be 50/50 split or would there be more girls, do you think?
  13. if you happen to live near Plymouth, i beleive Elmhurst have extended the deadline for their Plymouth associates. Although I dont know till when but it will be on the website
  14. Hi I have sent you a personal message as we know each other
  15. oh pupsmum that made me laugh, its exactly the same in my house! dd outgrows clothes without wearing them and some friends have.never seen her with her hair down
  16. Yes, interesting. Applications close Wednesday 12th June, audtion Wednesday 27 th June. I guess they must have some places still available. I wonder whether they would reaudition someone they've already seen or if application is only open to new applicants who, for whatever reason didn't audition earlier in the year.
  17. Thank ypu Spanner. I maybe should clarify that the notice says this is for entry September 2013
  18. oops, not sure how i managed to post twice, sorry, could admin please sort it out
  19. I have just noticed on their website that Elmhurst have announced an extra audition date in June for both upper and lower school.
  20. I wouldn't recommend new shoes Reem. I am sure your dd will be more comfortable in shoes she is used to and they will hug the foot better. Also, I dont think for one moment that having new shoes is going to make any difference to the result. They aren't qgoing to turn down someone they like because her shoes aren't new and likewise they won't take someone they aren't sure of because she had great shoes! That said, I remeber getting in a slight panic when we arrived to audition and every other child there had a waist elastic. I'd never seen them before but a lovely lady who was doing the registration lent us one. Good luck x
  21. interesting, having read all of the above that at least one of the vocational schools ask the children to wear canvas split soles. As a complete novice I am wondering is this to do with the amount of ballet they are doing and the fact that they are expecting the children to have reasonably strong feet already to have got there? I dont mean to sound controvertial but I don't understand why the vocational shools would do that if it isn't good practise
  22. Just Ballet the pointe shoe fitting info arrived in the post this morning. Thank you so much!! Perfect timing as I am off sick today with a horrible cold and sore throat, it has kept me from getting bored whilst glued to the sofa this morning. It makes really interesting reading and I at least feel that I will have some clue about what we are aiming for now! Thank you so much for putting yourself out for us. What a shame we don't still live in Thorpe Bay or nearby, I'd have been straight round to your shop for a fitting! I will definitely be visiting the online shop in future. Many Thanks x
  23. I have no idea whether it is a generally available service or whether it is due to some sort of personal contact but I do know that a dance school near to us hires costumes from Italia Conti. Is it maybe worth giving them a call? (or for that matter any other schools which may hire out). Good luck
  24. Sorry I jumped in on your thread, Just Ballet, but as a complete and utter novice at this pointe shoe stuff I'd welcome any input. I would be straight round to your shop if it wasn't three hour drive away! It sounds to me as though you really go the extra mile and are very knowledgable, I hope I am lucky enough to find someone similar. (even as a complete novice, surely any shoes become wider, not narrower with wear?!!) x
