  1. My dearest daughter wants to play football and not watch this fabulous performance. Details are 21st October, 1.30 stalls row C 12-15. I would like what I paid which is £63 plus postage which will be next day signed for delivery. Thank you, I'm off to cancel the ballet classes now 😂
  2. I wish I could take the tickets off your hands for tonight but can't make it. I'm stalking the site for Saturday tickets! I'm sure you'll sell them x
  3. Hello! Hopefully a quick question but does anyone have suggestions for a work experience placement for my dd who is interested in a career in performing arts - not just ballet all forms of dance loved! We are based centrally but could travel into London. Thank you all x
  4. From the age of 9-14 my daughter had frequent and very heavy nosebleeds. Often occurring in the middle of the night she would wake to find herself and bedclothes covered in blood. At the same time as this she was often tired and irritable. I had concerns about iron deficiency due to loss of blood so we did visit a doctor. In spite of the nose bleeds her iron levels were within a normal range. We were offered cauterisation as there were no other symptoms to be concerned of. We both decided to monitor for another 6 months and thankfully they have reduced significantly. Possibly part of growing up? I would recommend getting it checked out.
  5. This girl is a bully. Simple. The teacher needs to exercise control and put a stop to it. Possibly she isn't aware so I would agree with Anna C, talk to the teacher and explain what has been happening. Good luck, wish your daughter the best, she shouldn't have to tolerate behaviour like this.l
  6. I empathise here as my dd who is 11, has since starting secondary education (non voc), complains of feeling inadequate, unable to cope- symptoms manifesting as reclusiveness, stomach pains and vomiting. We've taken this down a gp route who has, after ruling out medical causes, made a paediatric referral to a psychologist - for support and counselling. We were reluctant about this, but she needs strategies to cope not only now but in her developing years. We hope that with counselling she can develop these skills. There is also a book called " when you worry too much: a child's guide". We've just ordered it from Amazon so can't comment yet if it helps but it was referred to me by a psychologist friend. No doubt you are worried sick, so wish you all well.
  7. I empathise here, and take the viewpoint that where a child skips grades AND where this adversely affects other children in the class then it is a problem. If your child reports the class is stop start then this is your business and is not borne out of an over-interest in other children's development. I think I understand why your child is frustrated, possibly she feels her future is jeopardised by the current classroom environment. Good luck, really not an easy one to resolve, though I agree with Saraw- you need to start talking to the teacher...
  8. What a lovely considerate daughter you are, that you recognise the impact on your family of the classes shows you are mature and sensitive individual. My dd is in a similar situation and she is always worrying about the impact her dance schedule has on our family - I have to reassure her regularly that if we didn't have faith in her we wouldn't be so supportive. I see it as my job to make her dance journey as smooth as possible after all she has the tough part! My dd does three dance classes on a Saturday and finds it ok, plus two in the week. She is however exhausted on a Sunday, this needs to now be a day of rest!
  9. Hi, I hope you can provide some advice. I need to improve my daughters practice space and think a roll out vinyl type flooring would be beneficial. However, having done the usual Google "research" I can't find anything suitable. Does anybody have any suggestions of where in could buy some? I don't need a large piece, possible 3 metres x 3 m. Many thanks for your assistance
  10. Choosing GCSEs is tricky, we were faced with this dilema earlier in the year. My daughter does so much dance out of school and we also were worried about the skill level of the cohorts and how this would translate in the lesson - no offence intended but think the teacher may be challenged to accommodate a potentially wide range skill set. So, we opted for PE instead, rationale being she could learn a lot about nutrition, physiology which would support her Biology plus one of the electives is contemporary dance- so she can still indulge her passion, albeit from a different perspective.
  11. Just a note to say thanks for the link for the resale of tickets. I registered and luckily was able to purchase two tickets to see the spectacle de l'ecole de dance. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The performance was impressive, but one stood out which was "Aunis", three male dancers performing a wonderful piece to two accordion players, this was particularly spell binding. So big thanks for the tip toursenlair. With a total trip time door to door from home of four hours I realise this type of trip is more do-able.
  12. Little bit of ballet on BBC 4 tonight at 8 pm. Might be worth a watch...
  13. Thank you linMM, i now have to do the same for my other two daughters! I Will definately be going on a tour for le garnier which looks amazing, thankyou so much for these ideas, i would not have had a clue otherwise. My dd has had a tough time at school and injuries recently so this is a much deserved break from the norm ( which I think we all need sometimes).
  14. That's really good to know, thank you. She'd love a tour, possibility of shopping as well- no more needed!
  15. Ha-ha, hadn't noticed! Birthday treat... Kind of a "becoming a teenager" mummy - daughter thing. Her younger two siblings not happy about having to wait until they're 13 for same thing. I'll have a look at the link you've sent, many thanks.
  16. Hi everyone, was hoping for some advice please. I am taking my 13 year old daughter to Paris during the Easter break as a birthday test. We would love to take in some ballet or contemporary dance during our visit. The ballet opera doesn't have anything scheduled whilst we are there, can anyone recommend elsewhere to try? Many thanks, H
  17. Hi rainbow magic, we live in bucks and I also have a nearly 13 year old doing almost identical classes to what you've listed above! We use a co-ordinated approach, by this I mean her teachers are all aware of what she does and where. I'll send you a pm detailing where we go. Bucks though is large county so maybe they won't be of help.
  18. Thanks all for the comments so far. The conversation about the festivals has come about as a result of conversations she has with girls who attend an associate programme she goes to, think she is a little envious about the chances they have to get on stage. As she says, I do lots of learning to dance, but don't get on stage to dance. Think the chance to wear a tutu may have something to do with it! I am reassured that it does not seem to be a disadvantage to not do this type of event, which was my concern, and I have watched with interest the threads about EYB. I did talk to her about that as an option, but she thinks she won't be good enough plus it's only ballet, (she can lack confidence). I will speak to her teachers about options and see what is suggested. Thanks again
  19. I've been pondering an issue for a while and have finally decided to express my thoughts with the hope of enlightenment! No pressure then, but I would really welcome your thoughts and opinions. I am not the dancer, my lovely 13 year old has a desire to become a dancer when she leaves school (she is not vocational- saving up for that at post 16/18). She manages 8 different classes a week covering ballet, tap and her beloved modern. The issue though is that despite all of these classes and training since the age of 3, she doesn't get the opportunity to perform other than a musical theatre style performance once a year. I am beginning to worry that the lack of performance opportunity and the lack of opportunity to pitch herself against her peers may prove a disadvantage at some point in the future. There are schools relatively local who do participate in festivals, but I wonder; is the festival experience worth changing for considering otherwise she is happy and developing very well. I'd love to hear your views. Many thanks x
  20. Do you have a recording of the syllabus music? Watching my daughter in her pre exam class the other day I noticed a remarkable improvement since the last week, I asked her what had happened, she said she,d spent a boring day at school going over the syllabus in her head whilst plugged in. It gave her a huge confidence boost. Good luck
  21. I need a 28" length character skirt, waist 24", or thereabouts though please don't worry if bigger as I can move the button. Please let me know if you have one you'd like to sell. Thank you x
  22. Thanks that's really great, we shall try them! X
  23. Thank you all, I guess when transitioning to include pointe work you expect there to be pain, it's about knowing when to refer to a professional, which I will now do. I think a once over by a physio would be really beneficial, can anyone recommend a dance specialist? With regards to the podiatry issue, yes I will find one, but is the opinion out there that one who looks after the feet of dancers is better than a run of the mill ( no offence intended ) podiatrist? I may go back to the fitter who fitted her pointe shoes to check out their fit, we had them done in London by one of the shops in covent garden who seemed very thorough but her feet may well have grown, or the shoe changed to now be ill fitting.
  24. Back on the topic of toes, my DD who is 12 has been suffering for about two months with a very sore big toe, it looks enlarged and the nail look as if it's become pitted and almost loose. It is extremely sensitive to touch- almost gout like! She is non vocational but does dance in various forms 4/5 times a week, though mainly ballet. In the last 6 months she has begun pointe work so could all be associated although her pointe shoes seem a good fit (teachers comments). My question though is about who is the best person to seek medical assistance from. A usual podiatrist, or even physio, or do you think specialist help from a podiatrist or physio who works with dancers feet. I'm a bit reluctant to ask her teacher who has in the past made a comment about having to dance through pain - I get the impression she thinks I over fuss but I have left this for a while now and it is not improving. The hols are coming up so a break may do some good, or if treatment needed now is a good time. Any advice is appreciated. I like the idea of a physio screening as mentioned by dancing muppet above, as she doesn't get this sort of attention coming from a non voc background. Many, many thanks, H
