  1. I don't mean to spam the forum, just wanted to say thank you to everyone who kindly helped me find the casting, and also to say wow, Dawnstar, I'm so impressed with your spreadsheet and found it enormously helpful, so thank you for going through the trouble of representing the data in a different way and sharing it. Now, to beat my dead horse the wig conundrum, was Hayward a blonde Titania in previous runs, does anyone recall? Thank you again.
  2. Sorry where is everyone seeing casting? Can someone kindly show me? Thank you
  3. Does anyone know if Sarasota dancers also use the Titania blonde wig for 'The Dream'? Thank you in advance
  4. Thank you both very much ! Sorry I can't properly multi-quote but so grateful to you and all the knowledgeable fans on this forum.
  5. Would someone who knows/owns this DVD please kindly comment on the cast members not listed on the back of the DVD? I'm particularly looking to see who danced the pas de trois, whether there's one in both Act 1 and Act 3, and whether Yuhui Choe had a role (which role?) in this recording. https://www.amazon.com/Swan-Lake-Marianela-Nunez/dp/B002KLGLUU Found this on ROH flicker--was this the pas the trois costume for this Swan Lake 2009 DVD? The DVD back cover suggests 2009 Swan Lake is the Dowell version. https://www.flickr.com/photos/royaloperahouse/15010680940 Thank you.
  6. Thank you for these valuable leads! Much appreciated. I used to watch PBS quite closely but it feels like ballet has appeared less and less. But my perception may be inaccurate because if the yield appears low my attention tends to drift elsewhere. T_T
  7. Yes, a huge stage was the first thing I thought. Also it sounded like a full philharmonic orchestra was playing the music! I have also heard wonderful ballet music from smaller orchestras, so size isn't everything, but this was a rare treat. I quite like this tutu design for Giselle and the Wilis, the simplicity of the bodice and the skirt not 'bubbling up' so much. The 3 leads were all very impressive, but I think I found Hilarion the most memorable. Tissi as Albrecht reminded me of the first time I saw Baryshnikov on TV, almost too perfectly sculpted to be real, lol. Thank you to everyone here at balletcoforum for the heads up about Giselle cinema and all the ballet news.
  8. I am so envious because I don't think we have anything like SkyArts in the US--if I'm wrong, savvy people, please educate me! Is the Merry Widow 2018 version on a streaming service like medici or marquee.tv? Amber Scott is a dancer I wish I could see in many ballets, even the Swan Lake that supposedly is based on the Royal family saga (?).
  9. I hope the enterprising choreographer who runs away with this idea will credit you among the Creatives
  10. Wouldn't it be nice if one of the London ballet companies had a lottery for everyone who has to commute in from outside London, so that each Christmas someone who might have to battle train strikes and timetables gets free Nutcracker tickets to either a matinee or evening show of their choice?
  11. Thank you for the detailed and helpful reply on so many topics. I forgot to refer to 'sidewalks' as 'pavements.' T__T That is so interesting about Drosselmeyer and the complex partnering. I also love your linked video of first half of the snowflake scene from the current ENB nutcracker--thank you very much! I love how the tutus look, but wouldn't want all companies to give up their 'frolicking wilis' and switch to these shorter costumes, because it's nice to have multiple different stylistic choices for snow scenes.
  12. Your loving efforts and thorough planning for your wife's sake thawed my icy heart, though only briefly, lol. Perhaps one advantage of having a second trip centered around Stuttgart to look forward to is now you're afforded the leisure to savor all you can on this Germany tour without the urgency to get it all in during the one and only trip? May the New Year bring only good things for you and your wife.
  13. Maybe it's a bit off topic, but may I ask if you might also want to be extra careful after your injury because the snow clearing (shoveling of the sidewalks) isn't as vigorously and promptly practiced in London Covent Garden, compared to more Arctic and snowbound regions? Is the area around Coliseum safe or fairly easy to walk in inclement weather, such as during the Giselle run? I remember traveling to the Southern US and during the surprise snow storm the sidewalks were entirely black ice, block after block. The streets weren't plowed at all, because that municipality gets snow every 35 years or so and it made no economic sense to maintain a snow clearing crew. All the best wishes for your recovery and fingers crossed that ENB may bring back the Skeaping Giselle you hope to see sooner rather than later. Back on topic, may I ask if the Nutcracker cast changes this year seem more frequent than say last year or the year before? I'm relieved to hear that in recent times there has been fewer swaps of the Nephew in ENB nutcracker, hopefully making the story easier to follow. Thanks for everyone's insights on that discussion, especially. I think I'd like to see the ENB Nutcracker some day, because the tutu the dancers wear would probably give the snow scene a very different feel. In several other productions the snowflakes wear long romantic tutus that make my friend refer to the dancing snowflakes as frolicking wilis. At least this non-balletomane friend deigns to sit through ballet with me, so I can't complain, lol.
  14. Thank you, everyone, for your insights. I have never had the privilege of seeing and if given a chance would probably gladly go to ENB's nutcracker. If anything the ENB costumes make the mice here a bit too feral for me. I'm used to nutcracker mice that are dressed in a very dapper way, even if clutching cheese and gesturing threateningly. Oh, and I'm still curious to know if there are wigs in the ENB nutcracker?
  15. Sorry for my cluelessness, but could members who find it easy to give ENB nutcracker a swerve drop some hints as to why it lacks appeal to you? I think I saw something about too few snowflakes in the snow scene for the vast stage, but are there other detractions as well? Also, are there wigs like in the ROH nutcracker? Thank you in advance for the education.
  16. Thank you for this reminder. The music alone would get me tuning in. I came to add the link but of course you had already taken care of it. 🙏 Many thanks to you and all the helpful forum members who kindly alert us about streamings.
  17. If you miss it I believe there is on demand viewing until December 17. From the alert on this thread https://balletalert.invisionzone.com/topic/47815-live-stream-from-city-center-today-630-est-balanchines-nutcracker/
  18. Thank you for this info. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the Ratmansky version with these dancers. The rehearsal footage on World Ballet Day was delightful.
  19. Thankfully Ondine is much better at finding links and sharing them than I am! I'm glad to see official confirmation too.
  20. Maybe I'm misreading the caption, but they seem to say Christian Spuck choreographed it and danced by Ballet Zurich? When I click on your link on my phone, that's what I see. It does look amazing. The costume is very effective.
  21. Thank you! That's very intriguing. Is it already known who will dance the leads? I'm assuming this is opening night?
  22. Yes indeed. Very thankful for the opportunity to learn more about the great Maestro Malcolm Arnold as well.
