How to promote ballet
San Perregrino replied to JNC's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Until now I’ve been too anxious about how I might be received if I wore my tutu to ROH. Perhaps now I will do so knowing that someone has boldly gone before me. -

* the older general public in this particular case. on previous occasions, there have been debuts at school’s matinees that general public has missed. -

Sticking my head above the parapet here. It was interesting to see Danses Concertantes; one of those pieces perhaps so long considered out of fashion by many that it could potentially come back into fashion for a new generation. e.g. If I wear a pair of ripped jeans I present as an old man neglecting himself. The same jeans on a 20 year old worn with confidence look fabulous and they are immediately trending on social media. My question to those who are more knowledgeable than I is was DC danced well? For me it seemed to be lacking a spark. My thoughts on DC were that, unusually for the Royal Ballet, it seemed to lack crispness in its geometric execution, nor did the dancers didn’t seem fully committed or comfortable in what they were presenting. DC is a statement piece and the intent, boldness, confidence and brashness to carry it off seemed to me to be missing. Perhaps this is down to last minute cast changes or direction and I’m optimistic that it will improve during the run.

But a nice tartare from a Boucherie Chevaline was always good to fend off a winter cold.

Perhaps the combined workload has proven too much to juggle and something has had to give. Magri is still listed to dance Swan Lake on Thursday.

During the curtain call last night several ‘Ballet Icon’ awards were somewhat haphazardly presented and I’m not certain that the whole auditorium were aware what was happening. These included a special one to Aud Jebsen for ‘services to ballet’. I, for one, am glad to see her recognised and thanked.- 152 replies

Even for a sold out show there will be a number of seats that are empty on the night due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances not just because someone has more money than sense. Especially now that one has to buy tickets so far in advance. I almost didn’t make last night’s show as less than two hours prior to leaving home water started dripping into my sitting room from the flat upstairs. Fortunately for me the leak was located and contained so that I was able to get to the Coliseum in the nick of time. A few hours earlier a friend had been immobilised by sciatica and was unsure whether they would attend. It’s not always possible to return or even give away tickets at the last minute even if one thinks to do so. That’s life. NB the top ticket price for a seat (VIP packages aside) was the same price as a ticket to RB Swan Lake.- 152 replies

A smorgasbord of gems to ponder, to relish and delight the most jaded of palettes even if some dishes weren’t to everyone’s taste. My highlight of the evening: Caravaggio choreo by Mauro Bigonzetti danced by Melissa Hamilton and Roberto Bolle literally took my breath away. That was worth the cost of the ticket without anything else.- 152 replies
