  1. @BellaF and @SJBallet my daughter was keen to go to the Malvern easter course this year. Unfortunately it clashes with the English Youth Ballet rehearsals. She will be 9 in March and so roughly the same age as your DDs I think. She’s really keen to go next Easter (although that seems ages away at the moment), so I would be keen to know if either of your DDs go, and if they’re going back the year after! A friend that we’ve made through this forum and is a similar age might also be able to go the year after too 😀 I’m not sure where either of you are in the country but my DD can recommend Moorlands Ballet Summer School too.
  2. Not as far as I know. I think you need to buy a CD. This might have changed recently though. Someone else might know more than me!
  3. There are quite a few of us on the forum with DD or DS who are Elmhurst Young Dancers, feel free to ask any questions and someone should be able to answer 😊
  4. My DD is booked onto the Easter one, Creakingstool, and will be in the younger group. In fact, she will be just 9 so probably the youngest there! She doesn’t know yet. She won’t know anyone either I don’t think.
  5. Yes, the one DD goes to is (I think so anyway!). The teacher is wonderful, friendly and talks to the children, incredibly good at teaching them in a way that they understand. They all get corrections each lesson. I was so impressed when we watched this weekend. My DD has learnt so much this term.
  6. I was going to suggest looking at the possibility of her taking the modern class at the other dance school, Astrid. That way I guess you can dip your toe in, try it anyway, before making the move for ballet too. Also, it will solve the modern class problem in the meantime. It would be difficult for the original ballet school to argue given they have moved the class, which now makes it difficult. Good luck though, it's never nice having to sort this type of problem out x
  7. Thanks everyone. It's great to hear how much everyone's children have benefited, and enjoyed the experience. DD is excited to get started... Bubbles - I would say often the excitement and camaraderie takes over and makes the travel, tiredness, waiting around etc worthwhile, or counteracts i... but I know it's different for each child. We do a lot of travelling for ballet so we're used to it now, but it can be overwhelming before you start, so I understand
  8. My DD couldn't make the actual audition so was auditioned as part of the previous year groups assessment class, so I can't help with that, but I can tell you that she LOVES the Ballet Boost classes. We have a 4.5 hour round trip to get there/back and it's so worth it. Happy to answer any questions if we can
  9. Thanks! Yes, she’s not at all bothered about which ‘part’ she is given, in fact, she hasn’t even mentioned it! She’s delighted to be part of the whole experience. This was her first time auditioning as she’s just 8, and she’s been keen to audition for years so she’s feeling v lucky 😊 Thank you so much for the info and enthusiasm, she’ll be excited to read this!
  10. Oh no! That is a shame! But not a bad reason for a clash 😬. We have a lot going on over the rehearsal period too, but luckily we think we can just about juggle it... I hope your son really enjoys the RBS Intensive. Was he one of the boys at the audition on Sunday? I loved watching the group of boys, they were great!
  11. Hi all I just thought that I would start a thread to find out if anyone/anyone's children were going to be in EYB Cinderella in Hollywood in Darlington (or another location?). If so this might be a useful place to 'meet', share info etc. Also, if anyone has done this ballet, I would love to hear more about it. I have a junior girl... I hope there are others out there too...
  12. Thank you! Yes, I saw that one, it is rather amazing!! She would love it but I think even the XS would be too big. Thank you though. I hope 🎅🏻 is kind to your DD 😉
  13. Very random question! Has anyone bought, or seen, a nice ballet themed Christmas jumper (for a child!)? Thanks all 😊
  14. My daughter did the Tring summer school last summer. She was the youngest there. She had a brilliant time. She didn’t board as she’s only 8 and you have to be 9 (I think), but she wants to board at whatever summer school she does this year. The dance course, if it’s the same one, is very varied. Ballet, contemporary, contact, choreography, contemporary choreography, street... and on the final day the parents are invited to watch as many classes as they like. Happy to answer any questions.
  15. Oh that’s good to know! What age did she start going? My DD is VERY keen!
  16. Yep! I know that feeling!! BBA Hull is roughly 2 weekends a month too. It works well here too. Elmhurst is weekly and it gives us a bit of room for manoeuvre some weekends. My DD has already started to talk about the possibility of doing the BB summer school!
  17. Ah that’s brilliant!! Is yours every week? Ours is roughly every 2 weeks. Elmhurst is weekly though x
  18. How did everyone’s first session go? DD really enjoyed hers! It was definitely worth the 2 hour journey 😅!!
  19. We got purple - the medium one, @Spamcat DD is very excited 😊
  20. We have experience of Moorlands Summer School - excellent course. DD learned so much and her technique improved very much. The course directors are wonderful. Tring Dance Course - really good, varied week. Had the opportunity to try lots of new styles. Brilliant food, made some nice friends, good facilities.
  21. My DD is very keen to try this one next! We’ve been in touch with them and they have been so friendly and helpful so far. She’s excited for next year already!
  22. I wondered if anyone felt it would be useful to share thoughts and experiences on the dance/ballet Easter or summer schools their children have taken part in this year? I thought it might be useful, given that there is often a choice and they can’t do them all (even if they would like to!) for people to share any experiences that they have had... It’s a good way to find out what is out there too! I am happy to share my DDs experiences this year if others are similarly interested 😊. She has really enjoyed both of the courses she did this year and found them very different from one another!
  23. I don’t think it is essential, but I am not sure. My daughter has already worn hers for a couple of summer schools she attended this year and so has had some use out of it, she’s also going into Y4 so I am hoping it will have 3 years use (unless she has a growth spurt!). There might be someone selling a second hand one, if you did want to get one. It could be worth asking on the for sale/wanted board... Hope your daughter enjoys it! Mine is very excited to start!
