  1. I meant of course stars as in principal players within the company. Just because you are a principal does not mean that you are a member of the first cast, chosen for live broadcasting performances, invited to preform with many years other companies. And of course home grown ones can become the brightest of them all but their needs to be a balance.
  2. Because the new principals are not exactly stars more baby principals. There is a line between growing your own and bringing in already developed stars. Ultimately the grow your own variety become more beloved etc because we grow with them in a way. A healthy company has both and at the moment the only two they really bought in so to speak, as a finished article, are Osipova and several boys but Osipova is certainly the most well known of all. They could do with another but they could develop some of their other principals and many of their first soloists too. Actually, I was thinking that many of their male ranks need tidying up, prompting whatever.
  3. She is very good. I don't really think anymore of any of them to be honest other than they are good or not. It is a binary thing. I do have a soft soft for several others over her though: Stix-Brunell, Takada (who I thought a gorgeous Aurora), Choe, Calvert, Hiep. The principals, I know Takada is one but it is her first year, are just what they say on the tin, more experienced and 'probably' more talented but they are principals. The peak, the end, more in demand, more recognised, in full bloom whatever. I like the trajectory best. The four new principals from last year, they are really just baby principals yet. They certainly stand apart from the rest at the moment.
  4. I can't see any principal promotions. Everyone raves about Naghdi but what about several of the others who are just as wonderful. I can see promotions through the ranks though. For principal, they could do with poaching from another company perhaps.
  5. If you are going on casual readers of the papers you definitely would have heard of Polunin and actually maybe Osipova and Vasilev. After that probably Nunez and Soares. He less so now but there used to be articles about them when they were married in the main stream press on Sundays and stuff. Misty Copeland I wouldn't never have heard of. The only two in the RB I would have heard of after those would be Cuthbertson and Watson. Occasional articles about them. The rest. De nada. The best known ballerina on these shores is still Bussellooking.
  6. Very interesting article. It reads to me of immaturity. He would have been paid han solely as a principal. What he seems to have been doing is immaturely rallying against the chains that bind them. Many others accept the almost necessity of everyone doing everything at work for you because the work is so encompassing and having your own personal life...Yes with flats/houses/dinner/family. He sounds like a little boy.
  7. Maybe I am far too pretentious and snotty about it, which is fair enough and fairy tales have their worth and are very enjoyable. Surely it says something about the company to say it is fantastically well done. It is the highest compliment to their dancing. I don't think I like the story. Feminists, and I don't necessarily agree, have been flaming them since the beginning of time. And actually, from that point of view, the ballet rather nicely diffuses the whole a charming prince will rescue you. I never did like Sleeping Beauty as a child. I was scared of the cartoon. Much preferred Cinderella but many would say it appeals to my inbuilt martyr complex.
  8. You know I don't see any of them the same way. They all have more about them. Even Cinderella which actually is a stronger story than Sleeping Beauty.
  9. There were children all around me who were entranced. And indeed the flowers given to the White Cat on Monday came from a child (well I presume her parents asked her who she wanted to give it too). Indeed. The dancing is hardly nonsense but the story element is. Even as far as a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty goes. One memorable piece of music in contrast to Nutcracker and Swan Lake where I could hum many. The music is all good. That is just it, it is all good and they do it very well. I heard numerous people on the way out, obviously not regular ballet goers, on the way out discussing it and praising the company and dancing to the hilt but all saying 'but it is a silly/empty/frothy story and it got me thinking about it.
  10. Much as I like Sleeping Beauty. I am not one to fawn over it or this production. It is a whimsical piece, pantominesk in places, has one memorable piece of music and is really family fun and magical for children. It is a professional production of it, an extremely professional one by an extremely professional company. It is nonsense very well done.
  11. Saw it tonight. Was wonderful and everyone was behind Akana, who I thought was a wonderful youthful presence. Lovely performance and Calvert as the Lilac Fairy was wonderful. Really enjoyed it. The cats were very much hope enjoyed by the audience as were the bluebirds. Hopefully Campbell and Hayward will be Bluebirds in cinema relay but if not then whole production is very professional and thoroughly enjoyable.
  12. It is something about these two and I really don't know why but it is like an undercurrent. May have been better if they made principal at the same time. Could be they are both English, about the same age. I really don't know but it makes me feel uneasy.
  13. With all due respect tennis is competitive; dance performative. I personally find the 'comparison,' as I often do with all dancers misplaced and having no place in the arts.
  14. I am afraid on these forums I constantly have the feeling that people are pitting them against eachother and it leaves an uneasy taste.
  15. This was wonderful. The first act had me in tears. I almost feel though it would work being reversed. The middle act is all about life and perhaps should go first with Tuesday in the middle andistance I theneed, now last. I feelse that is the one that encompasses everything.
  16. Of which they will choose from I am sure. I think know the delay is giving which man which part.
  17. I was thinking Ondine and Cinderella were due an airing. Love Winter Dreams too.
  18. Sorry posted wrong. Who where when. Varations is just an amazing piece of work and Dreams delightfull. So either way a good night.
  19. 6 Upon thinking about this. I realiased that Naghdi/ball are much more likely to be in symphonic variations. And the hold up is more than likelyou to be about putting whon where
  20. I don't think he wold come back for that. And there are 3 TBC. Kish is doing Polunin's show and Golding who knows. I would imagine Campbell would be Haywards partner and perhaps Ball Morera's. This would be the only liklihood he will come back I think. It isn't much higher heralded really. It is just what everyone hopes because he is her boyfriend. I would imagine Yasmine would be Helena/Hermitage with James/Matty and possibly Beatrix as well.
  21. I guess there are two. Is that usual? Or are they waiting on availability/injury or just haven't decided Yet?
  22. His personality just is not matched to company life. Many of the dancers any company has had just aren't, but that is Ballet. I always thought Jonathan Cope wasn't but then he took his time out and now he is a teacher he describes that as far more fulfilling...whI chose says it all about what the issue was. To be good at companies you work you need to be good at being a work horse and bending to the good of the company. He is not and many are not and they too didn't last long. He may have done better in anothe art/sport...more individualistic one.
  23. You see I don't think she was pushed anywhere with regard to the ballet. Darcy was the media face though. She had the personality for it. In career terms though...no. I am of your opinion about the other two. Could be one or the other becomes a more media friendly face. Nothing to do with career anyway. My favourite at the moment is Nunez though. Just her lovely face is enough I am afraid. Lights up a room.
