  1. Well enjoy .. our one day was very long and tiring so it's probably much nicer and fairer for the girls to have two days !! Good luck and chat to the lovely PTA who normally have a stall , we gained a very clear picture of the school from them which helped too.x
  2. Hi my DD was at finals last year for year7. You do get sent a thorough outline of the day(s). I am not sure but this year there are 2 days of finals according to my friend whose dd has got through. Last year we had a brief intro from the AD then the girls did their class in front of the panel which lasted at least 1 1/2 hours poss longer. then they had an academic assessment: an interview with senior academic staff and the physio assessment . ( As my dd was a London JA they did this the week before after her JA class to save time.)The girls had a tour of dorms and school. Finally there was a call back class at 4.15 which lasted until 5.30pm. Parents were allowed to go away and return at 4.00pm. It sounds intense but my dd and friends had a fabulous day and even made new friends so I hope your dd really enjoys it !
  3. Congratulations Newbiemum and everyone else who has made finals, enjoy the moment and the finals!!xx
  4. Cheers Newbiemum , Thankyou for your support, it is much appreciated !Good luck too and best wishes to your dd .!xx
  5. Can I just post as a mum of a current year 7 at WL to please ask for a little compassion when speculating about available places and to be sensitive to the families of current years who are just about to take appraisalsand who might be reading the forum .Yr 7 and 8 children can definitely be assessed out although unlikely and nobody takes it for granted that their child will make it through to year 9 .
  6. Allnewtome ... YES ...definitely go to WL audition!! My dd got no for both Elmhurst finals and Tring funding audition... and then got offered a place at WL last year .. we only kept going after support from this forum and her ballet teacher! We have never really got over the shock !
  7. Sambucol all the way- it's an elderberry syrup fortified with Vit C : Zinc and minerals with a antivirus action according to their bottle... a friend recommended to my 11 yr dd who always gets Virus flu at this time of year... probably all sugar & placebo but seems to do trick and I have now converted my hypochondriac of a sister( who is a nurse) to it too!
  8. Congratulations to your DC Karen and Armydancer..so exciting & ...to anybody who got a no for the finals .. don't be disheartened..my DD got no for both Elmhurst finals and Tring funding audition but then got offered place at WL (crazy) so every school really does look for something different !xxx
  9. Can only echo Happymums comments re vocational school..yr7 dd tired ,insisted on going to ballet class after feeling ill with the flu jab.her ballet teacher who can be tough on her , took one look at her and insisted that she curl up on the mat and sleep... dd said it was so relaxing listening to piano ... slept and was refreshed ready for the rest of day!
  10. Can I just put into this pot that please do not be discouraged if your DD does not get WL SS place... my dd never got a place at the SS including last year when she got offered a place at WL !
  11. Hi my daughter is at WL in year 7. They have very busy days with very little free time.she has a two hour classical ballet class at 8.30 followed by 4 hours of academics. There is a break in between to get changed and an hour for lunch. After academics she has more ballet classes ( pointe / character ) or rehearsals until tea at 6.30pm. Finally prep from 7.15-8.15 then quick phone call home and lights outta 8.45pm! Needless to say she totally loves it and the house staff are very kind( currently enjoying a Halloween party as I write!)...
  12. I can empathise Lema as my dd did exactly the same.. gave up London associate programmes and went back to local small ballet school as in her case she was utterly burnt out by it all..( and so was I) .... but just to warn you...much to her and our shock ... 12 months later dd got a place at WL...!!
  13. Can only add my Dd experience last year...Wore her JA leotard to Elmhurst prelims- didn't get through to finals so decided just to wear her favourite bright pink leotard to RBS prelim.. Got through to finals and offered a place at WL, who knows if it made any difference!!
