  1. My eldest was born with a cleft lip and palate and had an underbite which is associated with having the palate closed as a baby as it can restrict growth of the upper jaw. She had to miss Monday afternoons every 5 or 6 weeks to have her braces adjusted, we tried to get the latest appointments and she often had to miss Maths(which was her weakest subject ) but the Orthodontic clinic was only held on Monday afternoons. She had braces on and off from yr 8 up to yr13. School were ok about it but at the same time children who have 100% attendance from year 7 to 11 are invited to breakfast with the head teacher on their last day. It's good to offer incentives but there have been a couple of students who have lost siblings in the past couple of years and obviously needed time off. It seems very unfair that their attendance record is 'tarnished' because of a death in the family.
  2. Now my daughter is year 7 I'm a bit worried about asking for time off for her to attend the EYB audition. She will only miss one lesson after lunch but her school is one that likes parents to send children to school even if they're unwell.
  3. The 'Scum' comment is another name for the S** newspaper. Lots of people prefer to use that term because of the way the paper treated the Liverpool fans and also the phone hacking. Sorry for going off topic!
  4. @sugarplummum my daughter was at a dance school where the assistants would 'teach' the ballet class unsupervised, they were unqualified and one was a year 7 teaching primary !! The teacher didn't want to put my daughter in for the grade 1 exam when she was aged 9 and a half. After this we resolved to move her but she didn't want to leave her friends. One day I said she could have her ears pierced if she would move dance schools, she said YES straightaway!
  5. Chantry is from age 8 upwards, second Sunday in month 11.30-1 but they can also do modern class straight after. https://www.chantry-school.org/pre-associate-programme.html
  6. So I had my order delivered today. I only received one of the items I ordered despite getting an email last night informing me both items had been shipped. I have rang them and they said they are behind with refunds. The printed invoice states the two items were ordered. Very poor service.
  7. On the website there are two varieties of Gaby fleece being discontinued. It seems they replaced the one made with polar fleece with another style which is just fleece. I posted for polar fleece as it's the smoother of the two. I hope they will be ok for DD because it's not worth returning them. I will be out of pocket with the posting and handling charges.
  8. I have ordered one extra petite and a petite. I should have paid more attention to the charges, but they were such a bargain I did it in a hurry in case they sold out!
  9. @Confuddled Sansha are discontinuing the fleece warm ups so the prices have been heavily reduced. https://london.sansha.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Gaby
  10. Taxi has been very supportive to myself and DD for the last couple of years. As a parent with no background of dance I didn't have a clue how to go about looking for a good dance school. Taxi's support and advice has been invaluable to me xx
  11. Were you looking at the Sansha website? I thought they were on sale and was going to buy one last week. By the time I was ready to checkout all these extras had been added on and it came to over £22
  12. Derby Academy of Dance has adult classes. It's Cecchetti but I'm not sure if the adult classes are non syllabus. Some of the website info is out of date. It's best if you contact the school by phone or message http://www.derby-academy.com There is an RAD school in Derby I'm not sure if they teach adults, http://cgdta.co.uk/timetable-of-classes/ I take my daughter to a lovely school in Burton for RAD.
  13. I'm after a fleece all in one, type with shoulder straps, to fit 10-12 child. I don't mind if it's a bit bobbly! Any colour except pale pink.
  14. I don't mind if it's something specific but this one has stumped me. If I find a scarf in a nice print I could perhaps make a little batwing top...
  15. Thank for those suggestions, tie dyeing is a great idea!!
  16. Can I have some advice about Bloch warm up boots? DD is Shoe size UK 3-4. Should I buy Small Adult or XL Child? She doesn't wear pointe shoes.
  17. Please be patient, it's a long post!! I'm struggling to find something that complies with the this. "Lion King Section) ALL Feel free to wear what you like in this section as long as it fits into the orange colour scheme - this can go to beige to dark orange to light orange, but not yellow or red! We are going with african tribal feel for this as well so feel free to add aztec into it, scrunchies, harem pants, that sort of thing!" The teacher says prints or patterns are fine so anything aztec or tribal . I have looking for jumpsuits but they are thin on the ground this time of year. If I can't find anyhing I'll have to get some beige harem pants from eBay. I'm really struggling, in my mind's eye I know what I would choose but it's the wrong season! Can anyone help me out, my daughter is aged 11, very slim 4 foot 10 but 11-12 clothing is too big. She wears 3a lycra leotard but size 2 in a cotton Bloch leotard. Thanks for reading this!
  18. We took our 11 yr old to watch Ballet Black in Derby last night. They were incredible, hopefully they are coming back next Autumn 😊
  19. Were you previously at DMU? Glad you've found a course that suits you better.
  20. If you truly want cheap as chips budget accommodation there's hostels. I stayed at St.Christophers Inn Borough High st for one night in May. The bathrooms are very very clean, towels included. The other guests in the dorm were backpackers and they were quiet as mice. My daughter said her bed was uncomfortable but I slept really well. It was about £27 each, I think that was with continental breakfast added on. You can hire lockable crates that fit at the end of the bunks for valuable luggage. Children can also stay as long as they're in the same room as their parents. https://www.st-christophers.co.uk/london-hostels
