  1. Indeed - no disrespect intended, and I don't want to kick off the whole I don't like / I like Golding discussion again...
  2. Although some of us might prefer to see her with Muntagirov....
  3. Regarding the Insight evenings, as a Friend (lowest level!) I wasn't able to book for the Insight evening I wanted because I had other tickets to book at the same time and they had sold out before I got to them. However, when general booking opened they had released another 30 tickets and as I was on there at 9:00 I was able to nab one (maybe one of the advantages of being a Friend is that it does give you a second chance once general booking opens).
  4. Or perhaps the companies who have done it before don't want to relinquish their spot?
  5. They do have wi-fi but not on all services so I'll have to check - it would really while away the journey in a good way!
  6. This year I actually have the day off work. But ironically, I won't be able to watch it because I will be travelling up to London to the ROH to see Romeo and Juliet that evening....! I hope they leave the whole thing up for a while.
  7. Especially if they had actually known it wasn't the end and just wanted out!
  8. I've managed to hook in a couple of more open minded work colleagues just by sheer persistence and the lure of a couple of days in London! We're all coming to see the Nutcracker in January, but I doubt I could persuade them to any non-tradional ballets or triple bills. I'm pushing the cinema performances though, so maybe those will awaken their interest in ballets they have never heard of. Another work colleague had always wanted to see a ballet but not sufficiently to buy tickets. She was offered a couple of free tickets recently to see the BRB performing Coppelia locally, went with a friend and was stunned and delighted by it! I will be working on her now that the seed has been sown....
  9. And I see Ryoichi Hirano will be debuting as Albrecht in Giselle.
  10. <That makes sense, but I wonder if it is going to DVD, since the last two recordings were not so long ago, 2005 (Rojo/Acosta) and 2012 (Cuthbertson/Bonelli). Two performances filmed still seems a bit risky - I think I've seen camera crews film three performances to be sure.> True, but there has been such a demand for the last few streamed versions to go onto DVD that maybe they are anticipating that? It seems people don't mind having different versions of the same ballet if they like the performers. I hope it does go to DVD; there is not enough Vadim on film (barring La Corsaire).
  11. Checked with ROH; they confirmed that 6th April is still the live stream at the cinema, but that "there are cameras filming in the auditorium on the 31st March for a different purpose although I do not know what this is I'm afraid". Intriguing.
  12. That makes sense, I suppose. I hadn't noticed it on the website before though, but then I am not always the most observant person!
  13. Has anyone else noticed that there are two Royal Ballet Giselle performances marked on the ROH website as "Filming"? I thought it was being filmed on 6th April (Nunez/Muntagirov cast), but now the 31st March performance (same cast) is also marked as " Filming". Is this a mistake? Or are they really filming it twice - and if so, why?
  14. Whilst I would love to see Campbell in the live broadcast (saw him in Song of the Earth recently and he was a real standout for me), I can't see RB management entrusting a live broadcast to a non-Principal and a newcomer to the role (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong!) plus an unknown name to many casual balletgoers. My money is on it being Bonelli (a choice I would be happy with - he is an excellent dancer and good all-rounder) - or maybe they might pull in Watson (equally happy)? Possibly Sarah Lamb may have a say in this.
  15. I too would love to see Vadim doing the live stream but I think it's probably unlikely as I imagine they will want to save him for the Osipova performances. Although, having said that, he and Sarah Lamb were wonderful together in Manon, and they seem to have paired up for a lot of galas recently..... However, it would be a lot of strain on him and I would hate to see him injured before I see him in the performance I'm booked for!
  16. I think the problem with using "celebrity" to hook in non-ballet fans is that there is likely to be a stampede for tickets to see that particular celebrity, but no interest in seeing other dancers perform. It has been mentioned on another thread about possibly having Polunin back to fill the gap of Pennefather's sad departure, but I can see that being a problem in the wake of his hugely successful and publicised viral video - yes, you may get many people booking who wouldn't normally see a ballet, but they will all want to see Polunin and are unlikely to settle for anyone else (because they don't know anyone else). That would create a very unfortunate imbalance within the company which would be unfair to the other Principals and would be problematic for the company. This is all my opinion, of course, and I have nothing against Polunin (who is a wonderful dancer), but I think the "celebrity" tab can create more problems than it solves.
  17. I booked tickets on my phone (had to sneak into the toilets at work to do it!), but got that blessed error message about five times before managing to get to the right page. Then had to contend with slow Wi-Fi connection that left me sweating over possibly not managing to get the few tickets left before they went. Much swearing at my phone, and for some reason shaking it, as if that would help! Finally got what I wanted but I agree, it's always so stressful, and why oh why did they settle on 9a.m. to open booking??
  18. Got in on the button at 9:00 and got the last two orchestra stalls seats roughly where I wanted for the Osipova/Muntagirov performance on 1st Oct! Thank God for my understanding boss at work!
  19. Thanks Linda. Will just have to take my chances tomorrow so will bear that in mind.
  20. I've never sat in the Balcony as it always strikes me the view wouldn't be great from there, and I do like to be quite close. Any good Balcony seats people can recommend?
