  1. How strange you would have thought something like that would cost around the same?!? I keep seeing things on telly and online about how they want to make The Ballet more accessible to everyone but the cost of the training is enough to put many off, we took dd to watch brb the nutcracker last year and cost £150 for 3 tickets, no discount for children unless you have crappy seats.......the costs involved with anything ballet related is through the roof, so maybe they could start by addressing that if they truly want to make it more accessible?!
  2. I know you are talking older kids here than my dd whose going into year 7, but this has scared the life out of me!! Sugarplumsmum what an amazing and strong person you are to support your daughters dream and to try and see the positive, I don't think I would cope so well with the worry!!!
  3. I can't believe that they don't ask, what if you can't afford it!?!?
  4. This is a great thread, I am especially interested in advice for lower school as that's the age group my dd falls into. When people talk about health care....I thought that was covered by the MDS funding or have I got that wrong??? Thanks
  5. I understand that they can't physically stock everything on a website, they'd need a warehouse let alone the costs involved...but it's very frustrating when they instantly take your money but then you have to wait for refunds, i am waiting on 3 now which equates to £75 and being nearly Christmas I could do with having it back ASAP. Bloch must be doing themselves a massive injustice with not stocking and supplying popular items?!
  6. I've had a nightmare with the childrens warm up suit from Bloch, ordered online and a week later get an email telling me Bloch were supposed to send it out on their delivery and they never and have now been told they won't be shipped out till January. Shop refunded me so I could order from elsewhere, which I have done and had the same problem...seems none Of the shops actually stock them so you are able to place an order assuming they are in stock when they are not they just order them in from Bloch and get told mid January!!
  7. I see it's £275 per term does anyone know how many terms they have, is it 3 like schools?? As it says you can pay monthly over 10 months so just trying to work out how much it would cost ????
  8. Not sure if this helps but my dd normally has crossover plaits for her ballet class but one day recently she went straight from a festival where she had a side bun for a troupe, her ballet teacher said it was ok for me to not change her hair as we were pushed for time....anyway during the lesson the teacher kept telling my daughter she wasn't holding her head level but after telling her a few times the teacher approached dd and realised that it was not her head being uneven but an illusion from having an off centre bun....therefor I'm wondering whether having a French twist is giving her the appearance of holding her head off centre as with my daughter?? Just a thought ????
  9. I would miss my daughter terribly she's my little best friend which is why I'd love for her to be offered a place at Elmhurst with it being so close to us!! Not that I'd turn my nose up at any of the other schools
  10. It all has to be taken into account, Elmhurst for me is where I'd really like her to go as we live within 30mins of the school and she would be guarenteed 3 years of training where as White Lodge is 2.5 hours away and only 1 year guaranteed, however The Royal Ballet is every young dancers dream!! All this and she probably won't even get in lol ????
  11. Thank you sarahw just wasn't sure as it wasn't mentioned in the talk at auditions ????
  12. Can anyone tell me how the MDS works at Elmhurst please as at the audition they told us if offered a place in year 7 you are guaranteed that place till the end of year 9 when they then do assessments, so I was wondering if you get MDS funding in year 7 is that also guaranteed untill year 9 as this wasn't mentioned, thank you

  20. Glad it went well Happymum and I agree that there wasn't any competitive stretching at dd's audition either, just everyone in their own space getting their legs warmed up and preparing themselves for class....nothing intimidating best of luck to you and your dd let's hope the wait isn't too long xx
