  1. I got mine from Katz dancewear in Nuneaton, dont think thats near you? I got Gamba pointes but took the shanks out and hammered them so they were soft enough to wear as softblocks xx
  2. I have Gamba, and my feet are really narrow. They are quite noisy though, they make me feel like an elephant haha
  3. Hi, is the email just for London dancers too? Im not London based but would willingly answer any questions via email.
  4. One of my friends has just decided to apply, and can't therefore get her photos done until this Saturday. How strict are Elmhurst with the closing date; would they accept an application if it arrived a couple of days late??
  5. haha Sim, that website made my day! When I had a cold, I still had to go to school, when my sister had it she still did 2hrs of gymnastics class, when my mum had ut she still went to work.... when my stepdad had the exact same symptoms, he lay on the sofa, coughing and whimpering, acting like he was ready to drop dead at any moment, for about a week!!!
  6. Do you mean they weren't offered RBS places, or weren't offered a place anywhere? It's quite daunting to think a child chosen from hundreds for an SA place still wouldn't be 'right' for vocational 6th form, when I didn't even get SA's...
  7. "@ Sniffymum - appears to be the case doesn't it :'( .... Very sad :(" The one year 8 dd I know of who was appraised out this year has already had quite a few offers from other schools, so i guess, as horrible as being appraised out is, its not necessarily the end of the dream...
  8. If you wanted something a bit more solemn, I Still Believe, and Room 317 (Both from Miss Saigon) are lovely but dont think theres much dancing involved, its more acting.
  9. Ah sorry, just checked my letters. I got my SA result on March 30th, but my summer school reply came January 3rd- a lot earlier than usual because of the Olympics.
  10. Hi Balletmummy, good luck to your dd! I know its not directly related to her exam, but you might want to buy her a small 'Good Luck' gift- i've still got a ballet bear keyring that my mum got me before my first dance show, 12 years ago!! x
  11. Not yet Lil, but I am planning on applying- just need to print the photos and form! Is your dd applying this year? Xx
  12. They didnt last year but it might be different this time x
  13. "following in her sisters courus" I like that, JA_dad! Bet my dad doesnt even know what a couru is And wow, your self-control when waiting for dd to get home was amazing, huge congrats to her! X
  14. Theodore, Krishell and Spax, huge huge congratulations to your incredibly talented dc's; they have all done so well (Im jealous, haha!) And big hugs to everyone with the horrible No letter, i know how that feels! When one door closes, another opens, so stay strong, some day you will have a chance to shine xx
  15. You met Alina Cojocaru?! Wow.... *faints with envy*
  16. Do you mind if i ask what others she has applied for, Taxi? I'm considering summer schools too, and the only residential ones that I really know of are YBSS, RBS, Ballet West & Elmhurst.
  17. thank you, LTD, that makes things clearer :-) My mum isn't particularly knowledgeable about funding for 6th form yet, so I end up trying to explain it to her- which is awkward when.i am unsure too!!
  18. With regards to DADA grants, what happens if a child's parents are divorced and both parents are living with someone new? Is mum plus her boyfriend's combined house/property/income, as well as dad plus his girlfriend's house/property/income regarded as the total household income on which the sliding scale of funding is allocated?- thus probably bringing the total income of both houses to well over 70k? Or is the household income of just one parent considered? (assuming that the child lives with each parent for an equal amount of time). Edited to make things a bit clearer and correct spellings
  19. Hi, not sure if it answers your question, but i'm 15 (non-vocational) and at the moment i do 3x 1/2 hour pointe classes, 1 45 minute pointe class for show dances a week, and about 1/2 hour strengthening at home (wobble-board, theraband, rises etc) a day. hope that helps! Edited to correct my abysmal spelling
  20. If it was me, i'd definitely go to ABT- it is so prestigious (of course RBS and POB are too though!), and I believe it is the longest course? Just my opinion, and enormous congrats to your dd for being accepted!! xx
  21. Me too, Discouraged- since Christmas I have learnt a simplified version of Fur Elise, the Swan Lake theme tune & Waltz of the Flowers using Youtube videos made through a program called Synthesia; if you search the name of the song you would like to learn, it comes up with various different tutorials.
  22. Scoliosis... how severe would it be to hinder a dancers' career? I have a very mild S-curve, 9 degrees on top and 11 at the bottom.
