  1. I have auditioned and there was no pointework- to be honest, I dont think there would have been time for pointework as there were so many of us there!! If your dd gets in, there will probably be pointework in the casting audition, as some roles are en pointe. Hope that helps!
  2. oh my gosh. And £19,500 for it?!!! Really?!
  3. ahh thats reassuring, thanks Fiz ;-) And hope it went well, all4dancers! :-)
  4. Going to the doctors for a blood test... and fainting. Oh. Great. Now I've never done That one before.... :-(

  7. good luck, hope it goes well!
  8. Congratulations, how wonderful for your dd's!! *silently freaks out at the fact that this time next year I will hopefully be waiting on a 6th Form Elmhurst result... Next. Year. Aargh, all seems scarily close.... Anyway, best of luck to everyone for finals!
  9. ahh, I've literally just finally decided on my work experience placement, as I'm in year 10 too. I'm doing mine in my normal school, working in the Dance and Drama departments. I did consider a local theatre, however my working hours would've been a bit odd if I was helping with a show, starting at around 6pm and finishing after the show at about 11pm!! I was going to go to BRB, to do work experience there, however one of my friends did hers there last year, and gave very negative comments about it to me. She worked in Costume, and basically said she had to pair socks, and not much else!! No offence meant to anyone who has had a positive work experience at BRB, but for me it didn't seem worth the long journey! If your school does dance or drama, you could ask there; I asked my Drama teacher for suggestions, and she said I could come and work with her, so you might be able to either do your work experience at your own school (At least then you wouldn't have far to travel!) or your teacher can advise you on where else to look.
  10. Your dd only had 1 pointe class a week, Lil?! Wow, I am suprised- thought she'd been doing much more than that: her pointework is amazing! :-) and good luck with your auditions, pointytoes22, am eager to hear how you get on! Thanks everyone for the advice x
  11. A dead cat! Poor kitty Not really a money-saving tip, but wearing old, dead pointe shoes to bed (with the ribbons very loosely tied as to not prevent blood circulation!!) keeps my feet lovely and warm. And if the pointe shoes are new, sleeping in them once or twice helps them mold to the shape of my feet!
  12. Someone mentioned 'tricky' pointework being involved in the auditions for a 6th Form ballet course, so I was wondering- what standard of pointework is expected at these auditions? I will hopefully be auditioning next year (for 2014 entry); I have only been en pointe for 2 years, and am currently taking 3 pointe classes a week. What kind of steps are required at 6th form level? Thanks
  13. Just wondering- were the 800 students auditioning for just Year 7, or all years?
  14. Sorry, this is probably a really stupid question, but is the skirt 26 inches or 26 cm?? 26 inches just seemed quite long to me- my character skirt is 28 inches long, and is just below knee length. (But then again, I am only 5ft...)
  15. Saw the Ted Baker range yesterday- so sweet, but quite expensive!!! ;-)
  16. Have to say I was quite disappointed at the lack of an 'SA For a Day" or similar event! oh well ;-)
  17. I am so sorry- just realised one of my posts is about the school of one of the competitors! I have tried to edit/remove the post but can't- Moderators please do remove it if you consider it necessary, definitely wouldnt want to.offend anyone!
  18. Drew Jackson- is he an Elmhurst student?? Think i've seen him dancing on the new RAD Inter dvd, very talented!!
  19. Aww, your poor, brave dd! what a difficult decision that must have been... she will succeed eventually, don't lose hope! big hugs to you and dd xxxxxx
  20. Getting, to my sheer horror, a C and a D in my first GCSE Dance assessments. Luckily, they don't actually count towards the GCSE, but it's just... ugh. I knew that, as much as I despised the thought, I would not get an A* in that particular piece, as no-one scored higher than a B, but I wanted more than a D... And I was unimaginably frustrated that it was only the timing being very slightly off in one of the dances, which prevented me from gaining a B instead of a D... aarghhh. Edited to remove a rather odd sunglasses-wearing emoticon!!
  21. That is truly breathtaking, Anjuli... Beautiful
  22. Going on holiday for a week with no WiFi, and therefore no Ballet.co!! Eeeek- drove me crazy not being able to post or read the forums!!
  23. I think Bethany Wareing (Genee Dance Challenge level 2 winner) also competed. She's a lovely dancer, we go to the same youth ballet.
  24. Marianne, do you know roughly how many Year 11 RBS SA places are available, and how many audition, please?
